Remember 2006? That was the year that High School Musical came out, and so did Lance Bass. The very first tweet was tweeted, and Miley Cyrus was just some actress on a new Disney Channel show.
In this strange and innocent time, NBC dropped a (then) totally unique pilot into its mix of programming. It was a superhero show – but one without any recognizable names, like Superman or Batman. It was an ensemble show, but it was also high-budget. It’s time to save the cheerleader to save the world once more. Heroes creator Tim Kring is ready to return to the world of everyday superheroes, according to a new report by Deadline. The site reports that Kring is currently shopping around his idea for Heroes: Eclipsed. The series, which is reportedly being pitched to its original home network, NBC, along with other streaming services, would be set after the original series. Heroes ran for four seasons from 2006-2010 and was a ratings and awards season juggernaut in its early seasons. If picked up, Heroes: Eclipsed would mark the second full follow-up to the award-winning sci-fi drama, following 2015’s miniseries Heroes: Reborn, which featured new characters and stories alongside Jack Coleman‘s Noah Bennet and other cameo-ing original series stars. Per the new reporting, Kring plans to feature “familiar villains and new enemies,” which could imply a return of...

Milo Ventimiglia is opening up about the Heroes reboot and the possibility of a new revival. The actor also revealed why he won’t be auditioning for the Batman role in The Brave and the Bold film that James Gunn is working on as part of the new DC Universe he is constructing alongside Peter Safran.
In a new interview, the This Is Us alum was pessimistic about the idea of bringing back Heroes, the 2006 Tim Kring-created superhero series that aired on NBC for four seasons.
“I feel like I’ve been trained to say ‘never say never.’ But I think when they tried to bring back Heroes and reboot Heroes, it was a bit of a soft landing,” Ventimiglia said in an interview with ComicBook. “I don’t think that one’s gonna be revisited again.”
Ventimiglia played the role of Peter Petrelli, a hospice nurse who can mimic other people’s abilities.

When it premiered in 2006, Tim Kring’s Heroes was raved about and considered the next great piece of episodic genre TV. Many thought it would be the next Lost, and Hayden Panettiere (who’s back in a big way with Scream VI) became a star overnight. But, as soon as season 2 started, the show seemingly jumped the shark, and what began as a promising superhero epic became just another TV soap opera. What happened? Part of it had to do with the fact that Bryan Fuller, who consulted on Season One, left before the second season, while the second season also coincided with the WGA Writer’s Strike, which spelled the doom for many shows. While Heroes would continue for another few seasons, viewership died off, and many felt that the show never lived up to the considerable promise of the first season.

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Tim Kring intended for "Heroes" to have a shifting cast. That was a sensible impulse: The show -- which aired on NBC from 2006-2010 -- concerned ordinary people who discover they have superhuman abilities. If the series' primary thrust was proving how extraordinary an average human could be, casting a fresh batch of actors each season seems like a prudent way to drive the theme home -- and to discover new breakout stars in the process.
Except it wasn't. The original cast of "Heroes" proved so popular with audiences that Kring and his writing staff jettisoned the original plan and brought back most of the show's first-season ensemble...

Roberts penned an essay for Variety, which went public earlier on Wednesday, which found Roberts recalling his experience of working on the show.

Leonard Roberts is best known for his roles in the movie “Drumline,” and on the television shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Crime Story,” “Major Crimes” — and for his performance as D.L. As he details in his account below, he experienced immediate friction with his main co-star Ali Larter — and perceived indifference from creator and showrunner Tim Kring — that led him to feel singled out as a Black actor, a feeling that only grew more intense after he was fired from the show after its first season.

Beginning in 2006, NBC’s pulpy comic book-esque series Heroes ran for four seasons consisting of 77 episodes and over 30 online “minisodes.” The original run was followed up with 13-episode reboot Heroes Reborn in 2015. All in all, the franchise produced over 65 hours of content. Of those 65+ hours of Heroes, 20 seconds are absolutely, devastatingly perfect.
That 20 second of Heroes nirvana occurs in the 20th episode of the show’s first season, “Five Years Gone.” In it, the temporally-displaced Hiro Nakamura and his friend Ando Masahashi time travel five years into the future to discover what will become of the world if a prophesied explosion isn’t stopped. Things are properly dystopian with a superpowered president Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) rounding up and imprisoning his fellow supes. Ultimately, however, Hiro discovers that Nathan Petrelli isn’t Nathan Petrelli at all but a disguised power-hoarder Gabriel Gray a.k.a. Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Peter Petrelli...

USA Network has canceled both “The Purge” and “Treadstone,” TheWrap has confirmed.
The decisions come as the network shifts its programming strategy to focus on live and unscripted programming such as WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” or the network’s reboots of “Temptation Island” and “Biggest Loser.”
USA also recently opted to cancel another of its scripted series, “Dare Me,” after one season.

Both “The Purge” and “Treadstone” have been canceled at USA Network, Variety has confirmed.
“The Purge” aired two seasons on the cabler while “Treadstone” had aired one. Both were produced at least in part by Ucp and based on Universal film franchises, with “Treadstone” being set in the “Bourne” universe.
The cancellations come roughly two weeks after USA canceled freshman drama “Dare Me.” Like many cable networks of late, USA is moving more toward unscripted programming like “Temptation Island” and “The Biggest Loser,” as well as the network’s flagship show “Monday Night Raw” from WWE. The network is also focusing on more event-style scripted programming, like its upcoming Evel Knievel limited series starring Milo Ventimiglia. USA will also air the upcoming second season of “Dirty John,” with Season 1 having aired on fellow NBCUniversal network Bravo.

Exclusive: USA Network has opted not to proceed with new seasons of its high-profile drama series The Purge and Treadstone. Both were based on popular Universal movie franchises, The Purge and Bourne, respectively. The Purge was canceled after two seasons and Treadstone after one.
Both dramas were expensive while not drawing enough eyeballs on linear television.. For USA sibling Ucp, the studio behind both series, that could not be offset by streaming deals the company had with Amazon Prime.
The Purge and Treadstone join USA original drama series Dare Me, which also recently was canceled after one season. This is part of an overall programming shift at the NBCU network away from ongoing scripted series toward more live and unscripted programming, along with “eventized” scripted projects.

Don’t tread on “Treadstone.” The USA Network thriller series based on the Jason Bourne film franchise has experienced the largest delayed-viewing lift of any TV series this season. According to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings, the 10 episodes of “Treadstone” Season 1, which concluded last month, have averaged a modest 501,000 total viewers. But with 72 hours of (mostly) DVR viewing factored in, that number jumps to a much better 1.337 million, a whopping +167% lift. That is the largest percentage growth among television’s Top 600 primetime series thus far this season, which started on Sept. 23, 2019. We currently have Live + 3 Day data through Jan. 12, 2020. Just behind Tim Kring’s “Treadstone” in the three-day-viewing-lift rankings is Fxx’s “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (+148%), then truTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything” (+147%). FX dramas “American Horror Story” and “Mayans M.C.” round out the Top 5, both with +131% lifts in the Live + 3 Day viewership metric. Also Read: Ratings: 'Station 19...

That was disappointing.
Treadstone Season 1 Episode 9 slipped back into the style over substance way of storytelling, leading me to believe the Treadstone Season 1 finale is not going to offer a satisfying conclusion.
Storytelling has been Treadstone's detriment since the get-go. It's nice to have well-choreographed fight scenes and visually stunning action sequences, but they also need to advance the story for all of that to feel worthwhile.
The Tara reveal was as predictable as it was absurd. If you watch Treadstone online, you know the character has been in various scuffles and always came out swimmingly.
She might have lost someone close to her, but the reveal that she was a full-fledged Cicada fell flat because we've been building to this point all season long.
Tara's trip to Russia helped the storylines to converge.
Meeting with Petra could have gone a variety of ways, primarily because Petra has no clue who to trust.

Sometimes, shows leave the fate of beloved characters up in the air with unnecessary cliffhangers.
Treadstone Season 1 Episode 7 was one of those episodes, leaving us to ponder whether Doug died in a house explosion.
Caring about these plots is not easy because they're the sign of a show that thrives on shock value and little else.
Treadstone Season 1 started thrillingly, but the constant action has had a detrimental effect on the series.
Action-oriented series are a lot of fun, but it's imperative that the action surrounds well-drawn characters worth the investment of cliffhanger after cliffhanger. Treadstone hasn't earned that yet.
For example, Doug recognized danger was surrounding him, and he planned a future on the run with Sam. If one of them has to go, it should be Sam because we need to take everything she says with a pinch of salt.
Her close bond with Doug, as well as her lies,...

Amazon is to launch USA Network drama Treadstone, from the producers of the Bourne franchise, globally in January.
The Svod service will launch the series in over 200 territories outside of the States in the new year following its debut on the NBCU-backed cable network on October 15.
This comes after the project went straight to series, after originally being announced as a pilot order, thanks to an international distribution deal between Ucp and Amazon, similar to the arrangement that Ucp had with Netflix on Nightflyers.
The series explores the origin story and present-day actions of the infamous covert program that uses behavior modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season of Treadstone follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously awakened to resume their deadly missions.

“Treadstone,” which begins in East Berlin in 1973 and zooms ahead to multiple locations in the present day, is, we’re told in its credits, “based on an organization from the Bourne series of novels by Robert Ludlum.” The description seems apt, in its clunky way. The Treadstone organization, which trains people to be supersoldiers and to keep their tactical knowledge subconsciously buried, is an element of Jason Bourne’s story now surgically cut off from the context and narrative richness of a good novel or film. And “Treadstone” feels, too, based on an organization and not a novel or film in its rigorous movement between plotlines, something that comes to feel less like narrative balance and more like mandated check-ins on a show that hasn’t yet decided what it wants to be about.
