Liberal Arts (12A)
(Josh Radnor, 2012, Us) Josh Radnor, Elizabeth Olsen, Richard Jenkins, 97 mins
University applications could well go into terminal decline as a result of this irritatingly winsome comedy, in which an archetypal New York slacker returns to his alma mater, meets an archetypal free-spirited young student (Olsen) and relives his lost youth of music, books and self-absorbed pseudo-intellectual chit chat. It's like Woody Allen without the wit.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (12A)
(Stephen Chbosky, 2012, Us) Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller. 103 mins
Life as a high-school outsider never looked so appealing as in this well-intentioned coming-of-ager, in which Lerman's loner is adopted by a band of bohemian outcasts. Watson's post-Potter moment is somewhat overshadowed by the flamboyant Miller.
Sinister (15)
(Scott Derrickson, 2012, Us) Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, James Ransone. 110 mins
Despite the old "just moved into a house with a terrible history" storyline, and a found-footage element, there's...

Arriving in theatres in the UK and Ireland tomorrow, The Knot sees Noel Clarke (Kidulthood, Storage 24) starring alongside an excellent cast, headed up by Mena Suvari (American Pie), Matthew McNulty (Misfits), and Talulah Riley (Pride & Prejudice).
Jesse Lawrence is making his feature directorial debut, and ahead of the film’s release, three inter-linked red-band trailers have been released to give you a taste of what to expect.
“Soulmates Alexandra (Talulah Riley) and Jeremy (Matthew McNulty) are getting married. At least that’s the plan. Unfortunately for them, nonchalant best man Peter (Noel Clarke), bridesmaid Sarah (Mena Suvari) and an army of naysayers haven’t heard they’re meant to be together. Can missing bridesmaids, crashed cars, a trip to A&E, and a delivery of pigs testicles stand in the way of true love?”
Clarke has reteamed with Davie Fairbanks (Storage 24) and Geoff Carino (Licks) for the script,...

Mena Suvai is probably best known for her work in the American Pie movies and American Beauty but she recently turned her hand to a UK based comedy called The Knot (out tomorrow 5th October) which has been written by Noel Clarke of Adulthood fame. She takes on the role as Sarah in the film which was directed by Jesse Lawrence for his first feature film.
I got to chat with Mena about her role in the movie, what it was about it that attracted her to it, working in the UK and what it is she loves so much about it. I ask her about her previous work, what she gets recognised for most and how she found working with the British team that has worked with Clarke for such a long time now.

★☆☆☆☆ Hoping to emulate some of the success of surprise 2011 hit Bridesmaids and even Nigel Cole's The Wedding Video (2012), Jesse Lawrence's The Knot (2012) creeps into UK cinemas this week with a trail of negative press following in its wake. Unlike the universally-panned Keith Lemon: The Film (2012), the team behind The Knot were at least brave enough to screen their gross-out British comedy to the national press ahead of its release. Unfortunately, such a gesture is unlikely to dissuade audiences from condemning the film to their 'Worst of 2012' shortlists.
