Often for children of a similar vintage, the Saturday matinee was where our movie memories began and then flourished; we were shown sword-fighting skeletons, one-eyed ogres and metallic barn fowl, pretty girls in peril and giants with a grudge. Fantasy adventure was a familiar label to us afternoon filmgoers, and the more absurd the flick, the better. The Lost Continent (1968) didn’t cross my path as a kid, but it certainly would have fit right in with our weird fiction viewing habits at the time. Watching it as a significantly aged and occasionally cynical movie lover, one can see that love of pulp on display, with one important difference: this was made by Hammer Films.
Pulp? Without question. But filtered through Hammer’s latter day approach of looser morals and giddy blood spraying, The Lost Continent seems to be made for adults who missed the experience the first time around,...

Courageous disc boutique Scream Factory takes on one of Hammer’s biggest embarrassments, that almost everyone connected to it would like to disown. I bailed from my first viewing around 1990 … yet this time around found it somewhat better than I expected. The girlie-show nudity is treated as a special effect, and the story at least hangs together. And like every Hammer horror, there’s a sizable, vocal cheering section out there that sings its praises.

Her daughter, actress Natalia Leigh, announced her death Monday in a Facebook post.
"My warrior and my heart died at 5:30Pm, on her terms," Natalia wrote. "It was time for Jesus to take her home. The world will forever be a little less light and magical. For many, October is a time for zombie flicks, slasher gore, and other horror films to help get in the mood for Halloween. With several film festivals and conventions catering to monsters and mayhem, Georgians have numerous options when it comes to finding obscure and independent scary movie selections. To help you dig up some scares, here’s a list of horror film festivals in and around Atlanta, a city known for zombies and other strange things. Monsterama (Oct. 7–9)The third annual Monsterama convention celebrates classic horror films with monster makeup panels, photo ops with actors, and 16-millimeter monster movie screenings. Films being shown over the course of the weekend include “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” with live commentary by vampire author John Edgar Browning; “Nosferatu,” with a live score performed by Valentine Wolfe; and a Silver Scream SpookShow showing of “Starcrash” hosted by Professor Morté and the film’s star Caroline Munro.

Ed Mason, who ran the film fairs at Westminster Central Hall for over 18 years has suddenly died, leaving behind him an enormous legacy with the film fairs and the shop he had on King’s Road in London for a great many years.
Being part of the film fairs since they started back in September 1973, he was responsible for introducing the now-highly collectable Belgian posters with their great art work to the UK, and kept the world of original film memorabilia going all through his life. Ed was also responsible for bringing over the best poster and stills dealers from Europe and America to his London collector fairs, which also influenced the opening of many cinema shops both in London and around the country.

Elvis Presley plays as an amorous pilot trying to set up an island-to-island helicopter service on Hawaii in this light-hearted bid to recapture the vibe of Blue Hawaii. The final film the King filmed on the islands, it also starred Suzanna Leigh as the love interest whose romantic distractions kept Elvis's thoughts off his aviation business spinning out of control.

Actress Suzanna Leigh, who was Elvis Presley's leading lady in Paradise Hawaiian Style, is embroiled in a distasteful legal battle with the son of a deceased model who claims Leigh stole a ring from his mother. The heirloom was given to his mom by the late actress Sharon Tate, who died at the hands of Charles Manson's gang in 1969. The son, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, claims Leigh had stolen the ring on the pretense of having it appraised. She allegedly never returned it. When his mother passed away recently, Leigh sold the ring at auction. The son is now taking legal steps to have that sale nullified. Leigh denies any wrongdoing. For more click here...

Price: DVD $24.95, Blu-ray $29.95
Studio: Olive Films
Christiane Schmidtmer has a layover with Jerry Lewis (l.) and Tony Curtis in Boeing Boeing.
The 1965 bedroom farce film Boeing Boeing, starring Jerry Lewis (The Nutty Professor) and Tony Curtis (Insignificance), is actually based on the 1960 French play of the same name by Marc Camoletti. (The play was revived in London’s West End and on Broadway a few years back to much success.)
The comedy movie follows the lives of two American journalists in Paris, Bernard Lawrence (Curtis) and his friend Robert Reed (Lewis). Bernard, the ultimate bachelor, is juggling romances with three stewardesses who just happen to have different schedules and nationalities. Robert, meanwhile, is scheming to take over for his buddy after Bernard’s job relocates him to another country. Lots of zany situations, close calls and bedroom door-slamming inevitably follows.

Damsels in distress on The Lost Continent? Stills We Love to the rescue!
You do not pass up a good damsels-in-distress photo, especially one from the weird monsterpalooza that is The Lost Continent. Just look at this:
Click to entangle yourself with a bigger version.
Damsels-in-distress stills are always popular. I remember when I used to buy stills from a New York outfit called Movie Star News, they had a whole subset of “bondage photos” consisting of pictures of trussed-up actresses (from mainstream movies, not “roughies”) in various states ranging from terror and/or hysteria to outright boredom. Lots of gagged girls tied to chairs in old warehouses, mostly from B pictures.
Today’s subject: British actress Suzanna Leigh enveloped in the tentacles (?) of one of the weirdo monsters from this most atypical Hammer production based on Dennis Wheatley’s novel Uncharted Seas–which one of the characters is seen reading on camera.
