"Familly Guy" is more than a show at this point. 25 years into its long run on television, it's a straight-up, locked-in part of the larger pop culture fabric. It's similar to "The Simpsons" in that way. But as the show is in the midst of its 22nd season, with a 23rd on the way, are we getting close to wrapping it up with the Griffin family? Creator Seth MacFarlane certainly doesn't seem to think there is any good reason to end it any time soon.
The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with MacFarlane, as well as the showrunners and members of the cast to celebrate 25 years of "Family Guy." MacFarlane, who voices a number of characters on the show including Peter, Stewie, and Quagmire, among others, was asked whether he believes the show could run for another 25 years. ‘Baywatch’ alumni Pamela Anderson has joined Liam Neeson in the forthcoming reboot of ‘Naked Gun’.
The movie is based on the ‘Naked Gun’ movie franchise which starred Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin. The original franchise was created by the creators of Paramount’s ‘Airplane!’, namely Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker. The Naked Gun trilogy was released during the early 1990s and was a big hit at the domestic box office, grossing over $216 million. Similar to Airplane!, the Naked Gun film series was famous for its outrageous parody, ridiculous set-ups, and on-screen sight gags.

Family Guy may have a whopping 25 years (and 22 seasons) under its belt, but according to creator Seth MacFarlane, the animated comedy isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
In a recent interview with L.A. Times, MacFarlane gave his two cents about the show’s potential future. When asked if the show could last another 25 years, the executive producer (who also voices many of the show’s main characters including Peter, Brian and Stewie Griffin) seemed open to it. As long as the audience doesn’t “get sick of it.”

Oh, God. The enfant terrible of animated comedies is delivering unto us a Season 22 finale of biblical proportions. Because after Family Guy’s near-quarter of a century on the air, nothing is sacred! “I never thought I’d hear myself say this as a writer,” confesses Richard Appel, a showrunner alongside Alec Sulkin, “but the Standards and Practices department at Fox is easy to work with and pretty good with us.” Due in part to the sheer success of the cartoon, as well as its consistent ability to push the envelope without inspiring boycotts (anymore), Guy has gotten away with decades of gags other shows wouldn’t dare to attempt—like tonight’s trip back to the days of Jesus. A travesty, you say? Even the respected drama The Chosen has a sense of humor—witness its Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) cracking jokes! The episode kicks off with Brian the dog...

It's been 25 years since Family Guy was first introduced to Fox viewers, and the animated series is still going strong. Better yet for fans of the series is that creator Seth MacFarlane doesn't plan to end the show anytime soon.
Per the Los Angeles Times, MacFarlane and the starring Family Guy cast members discussed the series, which first debuted in 1999, in honor of its 25th anniversary. MacFarlane shared how he was considering ending the show at one point, figuring that it might be best go go out on top rather than sticking around for too long. However, he wound up abandoning that idea, and he's now happy to keep Family Guy around for as long as there are enough fans still watching.

Liam Neeson will be joined by a popular Baywatch star for the reimagining of The Naked Gun. While Neeson will portray a new version of Leslie Nielsen's character from the original, he'll be co-starring with Pamela Anderson.
Per Deadline, Pamela Anderson has boarded the cast of the untitled Naked Gun reboot, which is due to hit theaters on July 2025. It's been known that the film will star Neeson as Frank Drebin, though Anderson's role hasn't yet been revealed. Akiva Shaffer is directing the movie after co-writing the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the screenwriting duo behind the Disney+ movie Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers. Find a place to display your beaver prominently and order some Titan condoms from Amazon because Pamela Anderson is joining Liam Neeson for The Naked Gun reboot. While today’s Deadline article fails to mention who Anderson is playing, we assume she’ll play the romantic lead opposite Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr. Lisa Marie Presley played the love interest of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin in the original comedy film, resulting in some unforgettable and hilarious moments and sight gags.
After filming 110 episodes of the jiggly action TV series Baywatch, Pamela Anderson is no stranger to comedy. In addition to running in slow motion alongside David Hasselhoff, Yasmine Bleeth, Jeremy Jackson, and more, Anderson starred in Scary Movie 3 and Superhero Movie. The Naked Gun reboot carries a lot of pressure from fans of the Leslie Nielsen-led trilogy, but I’ve got a great feeling about this inspired casting choice.

Pamela Anderson is dressing up for Naked Gun.
The actor has signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson in Paramount Pictures’ untitled remake of Naked Gun, based on the crime spoof comedies that were released in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Akiva Schaffer is directing the comedy, which has a script by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and Schaffer. The trio were behind the popular and Emmy-winning Disney+ movie Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
The original movie, written and directed by Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams and David Zucker and based on their television series Police Squad! that lasted only six episodes, spoofed the tropes of police shows and films that had ingrained themselves into audience’s minds over the decades. It centered on an inept and clueless detective named Frank Drebin, played by Leslie Nielsen, who still somehow managed to solve the crime and save the day.

When Seth MacFarlane introduced Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Vice President Kamala Harris at a 2024 fundraiser at his home this evening, his guests got a sampling of his irreverent humor.
“When I was asked to host this event, I immediately agreed because I realized if it’s at my house, I can drink as much as I want,” MacFarlane said, per a pool report. “I’m not going to get a DUI on the way to bed.”
“Anyway, now I wanted to get everything right to this introduction. So I practiced how to pronounce your name. Is it Doug?”
The Second Gentleman laughed.
Then MacFarlane referenced abortion, a major issue that Harris has highlighted on the campaign trail.
“Vice President Harris has been a champion of this issue, doing her best under the toughest of circumstances to try to explain to her male colleagues how a period works,” MacFarlane quipped.

The title of Eric Monte and Mike Evans’ Norman Lear-produced sitcom Good Times was designed to be welcoming and inclusive. The theme song was a litany of poverty-driven adversity — temporary layoffs, easy credit rip-offs, etc. — interjected with the chorus of “Good Times!,” setting up the story of the Evans family weathering the travails of the Chicago projects with a mix of pride, determination and a whole lot of dysfunctional domestic affection.
The title of Netflix’s new 10-episode animated Good Times has taken on an almost antagonistic quality, since the first trailer was released and devotees of the original blasted those two minutes for being a violation of said original’s style and spirit.

Shortly after Netflix released the trailer for its new adult animated series Good Times two weeks ago, our office started receiving calls and emails.
Inspired by the iconic live-action sitcom of the 1970s, the new show’s use of the beloved title conjures notions of familial fabric and community cohesion, amid challenges of generational poverty and stifling social policies that perpetuate inequitable caste conditions. Fans of the original series likely expected to see descendants of the Evans family engaging with their circumstances in adherence to the ancestral creed: Love through the pain.
But to the considerable consternation of many viewers, the new Good Times trailer seems to establish a world of Black characters navigating chaos and dysfunction, largely driven by drugs, violence and discord. While sibling tension is a common dynamic within TV family portrayals, the trailer resolves such banter by offering a father’s regret for failing to employ prophylactic measures to avoid parenthood.

A Million Ways to Die in the West fell short despite a great cast and concept, highlighting MacFarlane's missteps. MacFarlane struggled to carry a live-action film, overestimating his ability to connect with the audience as himself. Despite some standout performances, the film's forced humor and lack of direction made it an outlier in MacFarlane's portfolio.
Seth MacFarlane is many things to many people. He's a comedian, singer, writer, producer, and director. He's also a guy who loves to lampoon popular culture and show us just how stupid our ideals and heroes really are. This was the case with A Million Ways to Die in the West. Westerns, to be fair, are often stupid.
MacFarlane chose to tell his story in much the same way that other Westerns do. His film is a send-up of the genre, much in the vein of Blazing Saddles. However, it does have a boatload of...

Original Good Times cast members John Amos and BernNadette Stanis have reacted to the upcoming Netflix reboot. Both are waiting until watching the show to share their full opinions, but Amos acknowledged the reboot will "have a hard time reaching [the original's] level of entertainment [and] education." The animated Good Times reboot will benefit from the involvement of Seth MacFarlane and a strong voice cast, but it remains to be seen if it will come close to the original's appeal.
The trailer for the forthcoming Netflix animated show Good Times has received a response from the original series' cast members, following divisive viewer reactions. The original show ran on CBS from 1974-79 and received critical acclaim for its humor and exploration of serious issues, as shown through the eyes of a working-class Black family. Shakira has always been quite meticulous about the production elements of her different tours and performances — so much so, that it’s made her even lose some money.
While chatting with Sean Evans on Hot Ones Thursday, the Colombian pop star revealed that she ended up losing money on her 2002 Tour of the Mongoose because of a giant cobra background element at the start of her shows.

Stars of the original Good Times are weighing in after the trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming animated reboot led some fans to question whether the new project will indeed be “dynomite.”
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year after premiering in February 1974, Good Times focused on the Chicago-based Evans family, with the Norman Lear-produced series running for six seasons and earning praise for its realistic portrayal of a working-class Black family. After the first promo debuted last week for Netflix’s animated exploration of the Evans family’s current generation, plenty of social media users expressed surprise that the new series — which appears to double down on stereotypes with such elements as a drug-dealing infant — didn’t highlight the positive themes from the initial show.

Liam Neeson is (emotionally) baring all ahead of leading the “Naked Gun” reboot.
The actor told ComingSoon.com that he feels “slightly nervous” about leading a sequel to the iconic comedy films. Neeson says he knows his comedy chops have “to be proven.”
“It has to be proven,” Neeson said of said chops. “So I’m slightly nervous of it. A little Stephen Colbert sketch or Ricky Gervais, I’m Ok because it’s short. But a whole film, we’ll see. We’ll see.”
The original “Naked Gun” films starred Leslie Nielsen as hapless detective Frank Drebin whose cases always become a comedy of errors. The films were a spinoff from short-lived ’80s TV series “Police Squad!” In the new movie, due out next year, Neeson will play the son of Nielsen’s character in a sequel directed by “SNL” and Lonely Island alum Akiva Schaffer, with Seth MacFarlane producing.

This isn’t the Good Times of your childhood.
Yvette Nicole Brown, who voices the character of Beverly Evans in the new animated version of Good Times for Netflix, promises it will be an “edgier, more irreverent” reboot of Norman Lear‘s groundbreaking TV sitcom.
After one of Brown’s followers wrote on X Wednesday that “I’m surprised you attached yourself to this project. Looks nothing like the show we grew up on,” Brown responded with a promise that the reboot will offer as much, if not more, than the original.
“This show is edgier and more irreverent than the Good Times of our childhood but it’s still a show about family, fighting the system and working to make things better despite where you start out in the world,” Brown wrote. “That 100% lines up with my values.”

When Ranada Shepard first got the call to serve as showrunner and executive producer of an animated reboot of Good Times, it didn’t take her long to decide she was interested. The original Good Times, created by Mike Evans and Eric Montes and executive-produced by the late television legend Norman Lear, made history in the ’70s as television’s first Black two-parent family sitcom.
Shepard told Netflix, “Once Sony said ‘Good Times,’ ‘Norman Lear,’ I said, ‘Say less. I’m there.’”

“Ted” is a television prequel of the popular film franchise from Seth MacFarlane. The series streams on Peacock in the United States and airs on Sky Max in the United Kingdom. (Promotional photo courtesy NBC Universal)
A television adaptation of the film franchise “Ted” has proven to be a hit in the United Kingdom.
The Seth MacFarlane-created series saw more than 1.38 million people tune in to Comcast-owned channel Sky Max during its seven-episode run over a period of 28 days, according to the measurement firm Barb Audiences (formerly the Broadcast Audience Research Board).
The series serves as a prequel to MacFarlane’s two film series, and follows the foul-mouthed, pot-smoking teddy bear and his best friend John, who brought him to life by wishing on a falling star.
Making an appearance in the series are John’s parents, Matty and Susan, along with his cousin, Blaire, who crashes at the home in-between college classes.

It may seem sacrilegious to reboot The Naked Gun, but if anyone can fill the brilliantly deadpan shoes of Leslie Nielsen, it will be Liam Neeson. The actor has been attached to the reboot for a few years, but the project finally seems to be moving forward, with production expected to kick off later this year.
While speaking with THR, Liam Neeson was asked why he wanted to tackle a flat-out comedy such as The Naked Gun.
“It’s funny because right before Christmas, my sons and I were looking through the Academy screeners and trying to find something silly, some silly, stupid movie that we could giggle at,” Neeson explained. “There was none, of course, as they were all very heavy and international. I mean, brilliant movies but all very heavy. When Seth MacFarlane approached me about it — this was about two years ago, now — I thought, yeah, I...

Leslie Nielsen famously flipped his career 180 degrees when he started working with the Zuckers — David and Jerry — on the 1980 comedy Airplane! Nielsen was a seasoned dramatic actor who took his serious demeanor and used it to deliver the silliest of lines in a dry manner, resulting in some of the greatest comedy performances. Nielsen was able to become a leading man late in his career in The Naked Gun series, which would then spin him off into more leading roles in similar comedies, which would not necessarily be made by the Zuckers.
Enter Liam Neeson. The thespian has already reinvented himself when the former dramatic actor starred in 2008’s Taken, which showed that he could use his tall stature in the action genre. Neeson’s acting route would eventually land him in some comedy roles, including a self-parody guest spot on Life’s Too Short and working with Seth MacFarlane on...

Casting Liam Neeson in a reboot of the Leslie Nielsen franchise The Naked Gun may seem at first glance to be purely linguistic, but they have a lot more in common than just their names. They both made big career shifts in their 50s, with Nielsen gravitating toward classic comedies like Airplane and The Naked Gun; Neeson moved from heavy dramas to kickass action thrillers. Both of them retained their gravitas and skill, no matter the film.
Still, it seems like a willful choice of casting against type from Paramount, though Seth MacFarlane had supposedly been courting Neeson for the role since 2015. And it doesn't end there. Earlier this week, news broke that Sandra Hüller was in talks to play the love interest of Neeson's character, Frank Drebin Jr. Hüller was nominated for Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards, and starred in two Best Picture nominees, Anatomy of a...

In March 2019, Disney completed their purchase of Fox, effectively enacting one of the largest studio mergers in Hollywood history. This came after Disney had already made a major purchase from Marvel Comics a decade earlier, as well as the buyout of Lucasfilm in 2012. As of this writing, Disney sits on top of what might be the largest film library in Hollywood. Disney has used their massive library to milk as much IP as possible, returning to old franchises that have been successful in the past. Frustratingly, they haven't opened up their massive archive to the public via one of their streaming services; much of the old Fox catalog remains under lock and key.
Through the Fox purchase, Disney inherited many TV shows and feature films that don't quite fit in with their populist, family-friendly brand. Disney owns the "Alien" movies, for instance, as well as "Die Hard." It's mind-boggling to think that Dr.

Family Guy pushes boundaries with dark humor, resulting in some episodes being too controversial to air in the US. Censors carefully evaluate and sometimes ban certain Family Guy episodes due to offensive content. "Partial Terms of Endearment" was banned in the US but aired in other countries and can be found on the Family Guy season 8 DVD box set.
Family Guy has a history of its jokes being close to the bone, but one episode from over a decade ago still hasn't been aired in the US. Seth MacFarlane's long-running animated sitcom isn't afraid to reference any area of popular culture, and as a result, certain stories can result in some of Family Guy's darkest episodes. This was certainly the case for the episode in question, and it's the reason why it never received airtime in the country of its production.

It used to be that if a horror movie wasn’t very good, it was probably too simplistic in its fear mechanics: stalker on the loose, ghost in the attic, don’t go in the basement. Today, though, it’s often the case that megaplex horror schlock isn’t too simple — it’s too busy, too fraught with convolutions. Instead of jump scares, we get world-building hoops to jump through.
“Imaginary,” a watchable mess of a child’s-play fright flick, exemplifies the trend of overwrought too-muchness. The movie pivots around a little girl, Alice (Pyper Braun), who in the basement of her new home discovers an old Teddy bear, named Chauncey, who becomes her imaginary friend. But, of course, Chauncey isn’t just the sum of his stuffing; he’s a sinister presence with a life of his own. In the ancient days, “Imaginary” would have been an elemental spook...

Who would have thought that 2024 would be the year of imaginary friends in movies and television? The year got off to a bang with Seth MacFarlane's Ted prequel series being a surprise smash hit, with audiences reunited with the stuffed imaginary friend turned foul-mouthed bear. Later this year, A Quite Place filmmaker John Krasinski will be venturing into non-horror territory with If, which shows what happens to imaginary friends when their non-imaginary friends grow up. In between these two projects is something quite different, but the imaginary fiend present in Imaginary is not a lovable and huggable companion.
