The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh). Co-written by Nick Cutter and Ian Weir based on Cutter’s novel, its mix of haunted house and mad scientist themes attracted a lot of pre-release buzz which I was hoping it would live up to.
John Hawkins has one week left as sheriff of Lone Crow. Then he can put the town, and his ex Meg, behind him and start a new job in the city. That, of course, means something terrible has to happen before he can leave. And it does when a canoe bearing the mutilated remains of theoretical physicist Cole Parsons washes up at a local park.

Rodrigo Gudiño's upcoming horror flick, The Breach, will have its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival this month. The trailer for the Canadian horror flick dropped earlier, check it out below. It's been quite a while since Gudiño's The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh, too long if you ask us. Now he's back with an adaptation of Cutter's 2021 novel. The adaptation was written by Ian Weir, a prolific television writer who appears to be making his break into feature film writing with this one. The Breach also has the distinction of being produced by GnR guitarist Slash. Some of Canada's best are on display here. Natalie Brown is one of our most recognizable actors, Allan Hawco was on...

Looks like 2022 is off to a promising start, courtesy of “See for Me,” a home-invasion drama in which the young woman tasked with defending said home — and, just as importantly, the cat who lives there — is blind. It’s rare that the first week of the year brings a notable performance, but Skyler Davenport’s lead turn in director Randall Okita’s no-nonsense thriller (which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival last summer) will be worth remembering well after the January doldrums have passed.
Sophie (Davenport) is sneaking out of the house, and we don’t know why. Neither does her mother (Natalie Brown), for that matter: She catches her twentysomething daughter just before she’s made it out the door, telling the would-be escapee she’s “seen the deposits” and asking whether the money came from OnlyFans or a sugar daddy. Sophie insists it was just a tip from...

Raven Banner Entertainment announced it has completed production on Rue Morgue Magazine founder Rodrigo Gudiño’s “The Breach,” marking a reunion with former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, who serves as the film’s executive producer and co-producer of the score.
Based on a book by horror novelist Nick Cutter (born Craig Davidson), with a screenplay co-penned by Cutter and Ian Weird, “The Breach” centers on John Hawkins, who is set to retire from his post as police chief of the small town of Lone Crow that is tucked away in the deep woods of northern Ontario. But following the discovery of a gruesome body with uncanny injuries, he’s pulled into an investigation to solve the horrifying mystery, which evades explanation.

This Clarice review contains spoilers.
Clarice Episode 5
Clarice, episode 5, “Get Right with God,” is the best episode of the season because the show gets right with The Silence of the Lambs. The series has been putting off most of the references, some by design, come contractually forced. Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) has done her level best to avoid talking about it, even in therapy. Though, to be fair, she avoids even the smallest of chatter there, and often appears to be communicating via a blinked Morse code.
Starling has gone as far running rogue and publicly plug an inconvenient theory to push the traumatic events of the source film further away. She’s done this against the express wishes of her coworkers, and the Attorney General, Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), who salivates at the very phrase “serial killer.” Just as the ViCAP unit is finally on the same page as Starling,...

With a pair of short films and a long-list of TV credits to his name, writer/director Nicholas Treeshin makes his feature film debut with Thunderbird. Part mystery and part supernatural thriller, the film stars Colten Wilke as Will Brook, a reclusive fisherman who returns home to help in the search for his missing sister.
Will’s return isn’t an easy one. He and his family have a fraught history with the townsfolk and he’s not exactly welcome but Will is determined to help the lead investigator Ivy (Natalie Brown) and local cop Joe Fletcher (Aaron Douglas), solve the mystery of his sister’s disappearance - and perhaps also find her in the process.
Treeshin’s experience behind the camera is clearly on display in Thunderbird.

Family can lift you up, or they can drag you down.
In the case of Jimmy Downey, his family filled with abuse and crime threatened to pull him under so far he escaped leaving them far behind.
But when Jimmy's beloved mother, Rose, dies, Jimmy heads back to his hometown to face a lifetime of disillusion and disappointment that he was never able to escape no matter how much distance he set.
Michael Rowe, best known by TV Fanatics as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot on Arrow, stars as Jimmy, a police officer brimming with loneliness and unreleased anger.
His escape from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Toronto didn't heal his wounds after watching his father brutalize his mother for years, nor did it ease his pain at walking away and leaving his family to their own devices even if Jimmy was trying to be a better man.

To begin, we must acknowledge a painful fact: omnibus features are only as strong as their weakest link, and it’s clear that production company Xyz Films learned from its past. Xx, thankfully better than the company’s recent Holidays, features four female-directed psychological horror shorts that in large part take on motherhood, domestic life, and parenting. Perhaps it should have stopped there, with two strong stand-outs (Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, with The Birthday Party, and Karyn Kusama’s Her Only Living Son), the decent The Box (by Jovanka Vuckovic), and the weak link, Roxanne Benjamin’s Don’t Fall. It was as if the best three followed a carefully prescribed assignment; Don’t Fall attempts to jam a feature’s worth of suspense into a short that needed a lot more build-up. Also at odds with the tone is Sofia Carrillo’s beautiful, gothic interstitials of cracked porcelain...

Xx – an all-female directed horror anthology – couldn’t push against genre representation at a better time. You’d think those involved would come out fiery, focused and full of appropriate rage given current gender voicelessness. This was a chance for horror to champion female filmmakers, yet assertions are tepid at best. Even past the failed settling of gender scores, Xx lacks horror establishment of the basest engagement. Only one chapter stands out (victorious because of competition), while three more efforts drag their feet without enthusiasm. No statement is made, no mic is dropped and no lasting message lingers past the credits. Enjoy another mixed bag of spooky stories that do no bumping in any night.
Please note, such disinterest isn’t because my feeble male brain can’t comprehend a different perspective. Three of the four main characters are mothers, all caught in family dilemmas. That’s not where my disconnection stems.

Horror anthologies can be a tough feat to pull off, especially when you’re trying to pull together different filmmakers’ visions into one cohesive experience. That being said, Xx, which recently celebrated its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, succeeds in delivering four wildly distinct stories from several female directors, featuring the talents of Jovanka Vuckovic, Karyn Kusama, Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), and Roxanne Benjamin. Beyond just its historical significance, Xx stands out as one of the more successful anthologies we’ve seen as of late, regardless of the gender of its directors.
Xx starts off with Vuckovic’s contribution, The Box, which is based on a story of the same name by acclaimed author Jack Ketchum. In the segment, we follow Susan (Natalie Brown), a mother who watches helplessly as an unknown force literally consumes her family after her son, Danny (Peter DaCunha), takes a peek inside...

Xx is something we have mentioned back in 2013, which included a different line-up. Now, ahead of the Sundance 2017 premiere, we get a trailer to tease us on what we’re going to get!
Xx is a new all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark (St. Vincent) rocks her directorial debut with The Birthday Party; Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Girlfight) exorcises Her Only Living Son; Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound) screams Don’T Fall; and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird) dares to open The Box. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (La Casa Triste) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk.
Hopefully, most of you reading this should be familiar with the talent behind the camera. Annie Clark is marking this project with her directorial debut but she is also known as St. Vincent.

"Four deadly tales by four killer women." Magnolia Pictures has debuted an official trailer for the horror anthology titled Xx, featuring four different horror segments directed by four badass women. The film is premiering at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in just a few weeks in the Park City at Midnight category, and is one of our most anticipated films at the fest. The four segments are: The Birthday Party directed by Annie Clark; Her Only Living Son directed by Karyn Kusama; Don't Fall directed by Roxanne Benjamin; and The Box directed by Jovanka Vuckovic. The various casts include Melanie Lynskey, Sheila Vand, Mike Doyle, Natalie Brown, Angela Trimbur and Kyle Allen. This looks awesome! I'm most excited for The Box segment, but all of these look creepy and fun. Bring on the creative horror. Enjoy! The first trailer has been released for the horror anthology film Xx. This is a unique horror movie project as it's driven by four women directors. When talking about the importance of the project, producer Todd Brown said:
“One of the givens of so many horror films has been the objectification of young women, and we thought it was time for a different approach to scaring audiences and letting the female voice be heard.”
The result looks awesomely creepy! There are some crazy looking stories in this movie and they come along with some wonderfully nightmarish visuals. The film is set to screen at Sundance later this month and it's on my list of must-see films while I'm there. Here's the synopsis for the film including the names of the directors and the title of the film that each one directs in the anthology.

In what’s becoming something of an annual tradition, the latest anthology film is set for release next month: “Xx,” which follows the likes of “Holidays” and “Southbound” in assembling a team of directors to contribute individual stories to an omnibus project. With all four of its segments directed by women, “Xx” — as in, two x chromosomes — looks to distinguish itself from its predecessors. Watch the trailer below.

After the anthologies V/H/S and The ABCs of Death ran their course, it’s time to put horror in the proper hands. Xx offers four tales in the genre, all directed by females: Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), Karyn Kusama (whose The Invitation was one of 2016’s best films), Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound), and Jovanka Vuckovic (former editor of Rue Morgue magazine). Ahead of a Sundance premiere and February release, the first trailer has now arrived.
With a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool, and Christina Kirk, one can glean the tone of these four separate stories, as the trailer promises a bloody good time. For reference, Clark makes her directorial debut with The Birthday Party, while Kusama helms Her Only Loving Son, Benjamin is behind Don’t Fall, and Vuckovic directs The Box, while Sofia Carrillo has done animated transitions for the film.

There's little worry that the Channel Zero TV show will be cancelled soon since it's already been renewed for a second season. Stay tuned.A horror anthology series, each season of Channel Zero is expected to follow a different story and characters. The talking pirate ship Laughingstock always tells Percy, "You have to go inside..." But tonight, it is Mike Painter (Paul Schneider) who will have to look inside himself to face his past and potentially save his present in the finale of Channel Zero: Candle Cove. Ahead of the finale's premiere tonight on Syfy, Daily Dead joined several other journalists on a conference call with showrunner Nick Antosca to discuss The Tooth Child, the huge reveal of episode five, and what's to come in the final episode of the anthology series' first season. [Spoiler warning for those who haven't watched the first five episodes of Candle Cove.]
Nick Antosca discusses why Eddie chose to involve Mrs. Booth in his plans:
"She was a target of opportunity. He goes after children because they're his peers and because they're vulnerable psychologically, and it's like Mike says, children's minds can be molded. In the moment where Mrs. Booth has her seizure, she's totally psychologically vulnerable. He uses his ability to influence her.

It convinces children to kill and haunts those who survived its eerie effects. Based on the Creepypasta of the same name by Kris Straub, the puppet show Candle Cove is causing plenty of carnage in the first season of Syfy's Channel Zero, but, if you dare, you can now watch an episode of the unsettling show within a show. Just be wary when the Laughingstock tells you to "go inside" Bravery Cave.

Based on a popular "creepypasta" (user-generated horror stories that are published and passed around the Internet), Candle Cove centers on one man’s obsessive recollections of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s, and his ever-growing suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood."
