Personal Quotes (4)

I'm very interested in directing actors -- many directors direct cameras.
[speaking about the possibility of directing one of the Star Wars prequels in 1984] One, two and three are going to be very interesting, if [George Lucas] is ever able to start writing. Steven Spielberg and I would like to. It's a very interesting part of the saga, the early days. The youth of Ben Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker is really important. It's a very different world. Technology is different, means of communication are different. Sentiments are different. But it will take a long time, I'm afraid so. It's just a fact we will have to face. Good things come in threes, and all good things come to an end. That's just one of the realities of life. Your kids may see it.
It's my life. I only got one and it's very short. You don't get long.
[on having George Lucas as his second-unit director on Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)] It is rather like trying to direct King Lear - with Shakespeare in the next room!
