Michael Mann's Heat is one of cinema's most beloved crime films. Aside from famously having Al Pacino and Robert De Niro officially share the screen for the first time, it remains a shining example of three-dimensional characters, complex narrative themes, and thrilling action set against a vast urban backdrop. But the legendary exploits of detective Vincent Hanna (Pacino), career thief Neil McCauley (De Niro), and Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) would live on beyond Heat's dramatic conclusion at the Los Angeles airport. 27 years later, working alongside fellow writer Meg Gardiner, Mann undertook his first major literary endeavor and co-wrote Heat 2, which serves as both a prequel and sequel to his iconic film and greatly expands on its source material. Featuring several familiar faces alongside new allies and villains, Mann's novel more than succeeds in giving readers an adrenaline-fueled ride complete with detailed insight into the world and characters...

Michael Mann’s Heat remains one of the finest cinematic achievements of the ‘90s, an epic crime drama with a cat-and-mouse plot centered around two of the greatest actors to ever grace the screen – just not together. Heat wasn’t the first time that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino shared a credit (that was The Godfather Part II) but so much anticipation came in them sharing a timeline. But for some reason or another there has long been the question by some as to whether or not De Niro and Pacino were actually on set together at the iconic coffee shop scene. Despite there being set photos that show them in a two-shot, we don’t actually see them as such in Heat, leading many (chiefly those who never saw the behind-the-scenes photo) to speculate. Now, director Michael Mann isn’t only debunking that theory but explaining exactly how...

Austin Butler, known for his transformative roles, could bring depth to the character of Chris Shiherlis, showing a man ensnared by his circumstances yet striving for more. Paul Mescal's raw vulnerability and deep introspection, showcased in his role in Normal People, would offer a unique perspective into Chris's internal struggles during his early days. Dylan Minnette's blend of vulnerability and intensity, seen in his role in 13 Reasons Why, could capture a young Chris Shiherlis, portraying a man in the early stages of his criminal endeavors.

Michael Mann is developing a prequel/sequel to Heat, with Adam Driver cast as young Neil McCauley and a suitable actor needed for young Vincent Hanna. Actors like Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, and Bill Skarsgard are potential candidates for the role of young Vincent Hanna. Other actors who would be good for the role include Benny Safdie, Robert Pattinson, Jack Quaid, Barry Keoghan, Nat Wolff, Christopher Abbott, and Michael Gandolfini.
Michael Mann is developing Heat 2, which serves as both a prequel and sequel, and that has led to speculation over which actor should be cast as young Vincent Hanna. Michael Mann returns after a hiatus with his new film, Ferrari. The prolific director has been on the festival circuit promoting his biopic drama, and talks have been floating around for a while of Mann possibly revisiting his famous 90s heist drama, Heat. Mann released a sequel to Heat in book form last year, which he penned with co-author Meg Gardiner, and since the novel was released, rumors instantly sprang of Mann possibly doing a film version with his Ferrari leading man, Adam Driver.

Recently I was speaking to a friend, who's a few years younger than me, about our favorite movies. And to my dismay, it transpired that he'd never heard of "Heat." Not just hadn't seen it, but never heard of it. And honestly, I felt like I had to sit him down and have a little Al Pacino and Robert De Niro-style heart-to-heart after he dropped that bombshell.
Unfortunately, this was one of those moments when I realized that I am, in fact, incredibly old and that 1995 actually wasn't just a few years ago. To be specific, it was almost 30 years ago — more than enough time for the film to be obscured beneath several layers of cinematic sediment.

Heat's iconic diner meeting between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro's characters was a special moment for the two actors. Pacino and De Niro rose to prominence around the same time during the early '70s. De Niro became a star thanks to his work in Mean Streets and Taxi Driver and would go on to deliver incredible work in everything from Once Upon A Time In America to Jackie Brown. Pacino's breakout was The Godfather, and he has amassed an extraordinary run of classic performances from Serpico to Scarface and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

There is a scene in Michael Mann’s L.A.-set cops and robbers masterpiece Heat that you have probably seen, even if, for whatever reason, you have yet to see the film itself. Al Pacino’s live-wire LAPD hotshot Vincent Hanna has spent the first two hours of the film's 170-minute runtime fruitlessly chasing Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley. McCauley is a hard-nosed professional thief who oversees a crew that operates with ruthless efficiency. After what feels like an eternity, Hanna finally has his man cornered.

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were two of the biggest actors for three decades, but it wasn't until late in their careers that they finally collaborated in Heat. The 1995 movie is often considered one of the most well-crafted action movies in cinema, as its accurate and realistic depiction of heists and tactical police strategies greatly influenced Hollywood. However, the biggest appeal of Heat is the two incredible performances from Pacino and De Niro, two Academy Award-winning actors known for crime movies, and they go head-to-head in an intense cops-and-robbers chase movie.

The Heat cast is full of legendary movie stars and revered character actors playing both cops and crooks. Rarely does a piece of art serve as the inspiration for a film’s location. But, this was the case with the beach house that Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley called home in the 1995 action classic Heat. Director Michael Mann hired renowned film scout Lori Balton to find a house that resembled Alex Colville’s painting “Pacific.”
“Pacific” depicts a man staring at the ocean through a huge picture window while a rifle sits on a table behind him. And Balton did not disappoint. Deadline has reported that a deal is close for a follow-up to Mann’s 1995 sleek L.A. cops-and-robbers epic, “Heat.” The project is based on the novel “Heat 2” that he and Meg Gardiner published last summer. The novel was a number one New York Times bestseller.
