In the biggest twist from the two-part Season 3 finale of the CW’s Roswell, New Mexico, the original series’ cast member Shiri Appleby made a surprise cameo in the final minutes.
“I can say that she will be back in Season 4,” Roswell, Nm executive producer Chris Hollier told TVLine at the time.
Appleby’s return has now been set. She is currently set to appear in two episodes of Season 4, starting with #409.
In the Season 3 finale, we saw Appleby in a brief cameo in the role of Allie, where she is awakened by a naked woman (possibly an extra-terrestrial) who was searching for Liz Ortecho. “Liz Ortecho was a student of mine,” Allie told the woman. To everyone’s surprise, Allie turned out to be Appleby, who played the original Liz in The WB’s Roswell.

Carina Adly MacKenzie, the creator of Roswell, New Mexico, has left her position as co-showrunner of the series ahead of Season 3 due to “fundamental differences.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter story that broke the news, the decision comes after MacKenzie’s relationship with studio Warner Bros. Television has “been strained for some time,” citing a Twitter incident in which MacKenzie criticized UK distributor ITV over cutting a gay love scene from the broadcast of the show that led Warner Bros. to have to do “damage control” as a recent example. More broadly, the article states: “During her time on the show, she is said to have fostered a working environment that some say was rife with tension.”
Really, really, Really upset to hear that @itv cut out a (pretty tame) love scene between two men and kept a (much more raunchy) heterosexual sex scene in their airing of an episode of #RoswellNM tonight.

As announced Sunday during the show’s panel at New York Comic Con, Jason Behr — who starred as Max Evans in the original TV adaptation of Melinda Metz’s Roswell High books — will recur in the upcoming second season of The CW drama.
“We’re very excited that Jason will be joining us for a multi-episode arc,” executive producer Carina Adly MacKenzie said in a statement. “It’s only fitting that he’s playing a (currently top secret) character with deep ties to Roswell, New Mexico’s history.

The original Roswell ran on The WB and Upn between 1999 and 2002, and was something of a cult-classic for the former television networks. The source material, the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz, has captured imaginations for a couple of decades, and now has inspired another series, the Roswell, New Mexico TV show. Is it too out-of-this-world to succeed in something as mundane as the Nielsen ratings? Will Roswell, New Mexico be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

Welcome to “TV Take,” Variety’s television podcast. In this week’s episode, Variety TV critic Caroline Framke talks with Jeanine Mason, star of the CW’s new drama “Roswell, New Mexico.”
The series is the second adaptation of the “Roswell High” book series by Melinda Metz. The first series premiered in 1999 and starred Shiri Appleby as the main character, Liz Parker. However, the CW version of the show reverts the character back to being the Latina Liz Ortecho, as in the novels, a significant choice according to Mason.
“It never struck me as anything other than a great idea to reboot this property, primarily because she’s Liz Ortecho, and that is honoring the book series and there was so much of the story left to explore,” Mason says. “A lot of it lies in the fact that the lead woman is Latina, and she’s ignited, she’s on fire,...

[This story contains spoilers for the series premiere of Roswell, New Mexico on The CW.]
The CW's new series Roswell, New Mexico is not a remake of the 1999 WB/Upn drama that starred Shiri Appleby as teenage heroine Liz Parker. Rather, it's an adaptation of Melinda Metz's original Roswell High book series, whose protagonist was a young Latina named Liz Ortecho.
This small but loaded change speaks volumes about the intent of the new show, which uses the premise of aliens living secretly in the Southwest to tell a startlingly resonant story about fear, division and bigotry in modern America....

Roswell, New Mexico has us thinking about our favorite alien-human romances across TV and film.
This article is presented by Roswell, New Mexico.
Here at Den of Geek, we love a good science fiction romance, which is why Roswell, New Mexico is on our radar. The second TV adaptation of the Roswell High books by Melinda Metz, Roswell, New Mexico is the story of three aliens living in Roswell and the humans they come to love, and it has a literally star-crossed romance at its, forgive me, heart.
At the center of Roswell, New Mexico's narrative is the love story of alien Max (Nathan Parsons) and human Liz (Jeanine Mason). In the series' pilot, biomedical researcher Liz returns home after a decade away. The two have known each other since they were kids, but, when Max reveals his alien identity in order to save Liz's life,...

Roswell, New Mexico premieres in just over a month at The CW.
As such, the network is ramping up the promotional train and has unveiled a brand new poster for the series.
What it shows is the drama's core couple Liz (Jeanine Mason) and Max (Nathan Parsons) getting close, and there's a beautiful backdrop to boot.
"Make Contact" is a perfect addition to the poster because it can be interpreted in many ways what with Max being an alien.
Roswell, New Mexico is the second television adaptation of Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz.
The first TV series aired from 1999-2002, and last three seasons. Despite having a devoted fan base, it had low ratings, prompting The WB to cancel, but Upn swooped in to give the series another shot at life.
But Upn also opted to cancel it because the ratings continued to dwindle.

Roswell, New Mexico hasn't even premiered yet and we already want to decorate our home with it. E! News gets to exclusively debut the new poster for the upcoming CW series today, and we gotta say that when we first saw it, it took our breath away a little bit. Nothing like a New Mexico desert sunset to set up the perfect background for a romantic moment, which is what Liz (Jeanine Mason) and Max (Nathan Parsons) appear to be having. We need this color scheme in our lives. Roswell, New Mexico is another adaptation of the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz, this time focusing on Liz Ortecho, a scientist who returns to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico ten years after her sister died and she...

It's been 16 years since Roswell last graced our television screens, but fans of the cult classic can rejoice as The CW is releasing a reboot titled Roswell, New Mexico in the upcoming 2018-2019 TV season. Much like the original show, the reboot will be based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz, but unlike the Jason Katims teen alien drama, this time around, the storyline will be set 10 years after the characters graduate high school.
Another difference between the two series is the casts. While the original show served as a launching pad for stars like Shiri Appleby, Colin Hanks, and Katherine Heigl, who were all relatively unknown at the time, the reboot series will be stacked with plenty of actors you already know and love, like Michael Trevino from The Vampire Diaries and Tyler Blackburn from Pretty Little Liars. Interested to see who else will be starring in the new series?...

Also earning pickups are “In the Dark,” “All American,” and “Legacies.”
CW’s new roster for the coming season is once again heavy on fantasy and supernatural themes. “All American” is a departure in telling the culture-clash story of a high school football player from South Los Angeles who is recruited to play for a school in Beverly Hills. It looks like the reboots are not going to be dying out anytime soon.
Remember the Roswell reboot that was eyed at The CW just a few months ago?
Well, it just got one step closer to becoming a reality. According to Deadline, the young-skewing network has ordered a pilot.
The official logline reads, "After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life."
"She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance."

The CW is moving forward with its in-the-works Roswell reboot, placing a pilot order for a new one-hour series set in the infamous UFO town. The pickup comes just days after the network commissioned a pilot for an update of another WB classic, Charmed.
All told, The CW ordered six new pilots on Wednesday. In addition to Roswell 2.0 — which is being penned by Originals scribe Carina Adly MacKenzie — the network gave the green light to an adaptation of the novel Skinny Dip, the mortuary-esque dramedy Playing Dead, and the alien thriller The End of the World as We Know It.

The Roswell TV reboot is pressing ahead...
Roswell, the science fiction teen drama about aliens living in the famous New Mexico town, was one of the best shows of The WB's run. With showrunners like Friday Night Lights' Jason Katims and Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore, and cast members like Katherine Heigl, Colin Hanks, Emilie de Ravin, Nick Wechler, and Shiri Appleby amongst its numbers, it transcended its teen drama roots to become something greater.
Fifteen years later, The CW is looking to bring Roswell back. According to Deadline, the network is looking to "reimagine" the series based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz, with The Originals writer Carina Adly MacKenzie writing and executive producing.
The Roswell reboot has now taken an important step forward by casting its lead character.
