Oogie Boogie, the villain from The Nightmare Before Christmas, actually made his first appearance in Tim Burton's previous film, Edward Scissorhands. There is a theory that a statue in Edward Scissorhands bears a striking resemblance to Oogie Boogie, suggesting a connection between the two films. Other characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas have also appeared in other Tim Burton films, hinting at an interconnected world within Burton's work.
While Oogie Boogie is best known as the villain of 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas, the nefarious sack of bugs actually made his first appearance in another Tim Burton movie, three years earlier. Tim Burton is a writer, director, and animator who has been at the helm of some eerie and iconic movies, from Beetlejuice and The Corpse Bride to Sleepy Hollow and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A new batch of classic films have made their way into the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry this week, including Henry Selick’s The Nightmare Before Christmas!
This year’s new lineup of films that have been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” also includes James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day!
The National Film Registry says of The Nightmare Before Christmas, “The king of dark whimsy, Tim Burton won over an even larger (and decidedly younger) crowd with this delightful stop-motion animated offering. Jack Skellington, whose giant pumpkin head rests precariously on top of his rail-thin body, is the king of Halloween Town; one year he dreams of bringing a little Christmas magic to his humble hamlet. In a Halloween world where every person is a monster, a vampire, a skeleton, a werewolf, a demon, or a creature that hides under the stairs, who could possibly be a villain? In Henry Selick's 1993 stop-motion animated fantasy "The Nightmare Before Christmas," Jack Skellington is the community's most famous local hero, but he is not a killer. Indeed, Jack seems to be good-hearted (if he had a heart) and secretly longs for romance. The local mad scientist Dr. Finkelstein (William Hickey) can resurrect dead skeletons, but he doesn't want to take lives. Even the two-faced Mayor (Glenn Shadix) is more ineffectual than evil.
The only monster in Halloween Town that truly longs for violence and aches to kill people with his own hands is Oogie Boogie, a.k.a. the Boogeyman (Ken Page). As imagined by the film's designer, Tim Burton, Oogie Boogie is a large, empty-eyed burlap sack full of bugs and snakes.

Tim Burton is clear that a sequel or a reboot of The Nightmare Before Christmas is not happening. In a new interview, the director talks about what he thinks about the idea of the stop-motion film getting a follow-up 30 years after the movie’s debut.
“I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots, I’ve done all that shit, right? I don’t want that to happen to this. It’s nice that people are maybe interested [in another one], but I’m not,” Burton told Empire.
He continued, “I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won’t sell to the big power plant that wants to take my land.”
The publication notes that Burton then said in a “grumpy old prospector voice,” “Get off of my land! You pesky little… You ain’t getting this property! I don’t care...

People love to watch scary and spooky fare around Halloween, and that goes for viewers of all ages as parents seek out movies that get their kids into the spirit, too. This makes sense since most of Halloween's tricks and treats are geared toward a younger crowd. However, the horror genre is jam-packed with movies that are heavy on mature themes and graphic violence, which makes finding child-appropriate Halloween content a tall order.
Thankfully, directors like Tim Burton and Kenny Ortega have spent their careers creating timeless spooky tales that were made with kids and families in mind. Holiday-focused films like Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas offer screams, thrills, and chills that are safe yet thrilling for kids and adults alike. Even with their light-hearted tones, however, these and other Halloween movies still manage to deliver on the horror and manage to get a rise from audiences of all ages.

Director Henry Selick reflects on the gradual rise in popularity of The Nightmare Before Christmas and how Disney initially had concerns about its horror elements. Disney eventually embraced the film's success and capitalized on its growing popularity through merchandise and themed attractions. Selick suggests that a potential sequel may not be necessary, but a prequel exploring Jack Skellington's backstory could be an intriguing idea that he and Tim Burton might consider.
In a recent interview with People celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary, director Henry Selick got candid about the gradual rise in popularity of his film The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton’s influence, and the possibility of a prequel film.
Before his spectacular stop-motion films like James and the Giant Peach, Coraline, and his latest Jordan Peele-produced Wendell & Wild, Selick’s claim to fame was his directorial debut with The Nightmare Before Christmas. The animated musical surrounds Jack Skellington,...

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a beloved animated movie praised for its animation style, characters, songs, and music. The voice cast includes well-known actors like Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, and William Hickey. Jack Skellington is voiced by Chris Sarandon, while Sally is voiced by Catherine O'Hara, who also provides her singing voice. William Hickey voices Doctor Finkelstein, and Ken Page voices Oogie Boogie.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is regarded as one of the greatest animated movies of all time, but what do the actors that voice the characters look like? In 1993, director Henry Selick brought The Nightmare Before Christmas, a dark fantasy stop-motion musical from the mind of Tim Burton. The charmingly creepy movie tells the tale of a ghoul named Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s “Pumpkin King” who has grown tired of his town's titular holiday and so attempts to hijack Christmas with disastrous consequences.

Halloween lovers hate it when tinsel shows up in Target before the trick-or-treat candy is even gone from the shelves. Christmas elves would be happy to deck the halls as soon as sweater weather hits. In my head, I imagine a sentient pumpkin spice latte wrestling with a carton of eggnog.

What’s this? What’s this? A screening of a Halloween movie at Christmas? While some may believe this live production of Tim Burton’s 1993 musical is three months too late, this evening’s performance proves once and for all that Nightmare Before Christmas is a joyous, raucous and, above all, festive flick. Never mind the beasts and bogeymen.

Just under three decades ago, the stop-motion animated classic "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was released. Directed by Henry Selick, the film introduced us to Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town in charge of the holiday. He's starting to get bored with being spooky, though. One day he discovers the door to Christmas Town and sees a different sort of celebration. Jack formulates a plan to kidnap Santa Claws — who he thinks is named Sandy Claws — and take over the winter festivities himself. Chris Sarandon voiced the role of Jack Skellington, with score composer Danny Elfman singing the songs for the character.
Santa Claus was voiced by Ed Ivory in the film, but the role originally went to someone who is very familiar with scary things. That man was horror legend Vincent Price, according to a Daily Beast interview with Selick from 2013. He wasn't the only person they saw for the role,...

Every once in a while, the stars calendar aligns and Halloween falls on a Monday, so “Dancing with the Stars” can have a proper Halloween Night celebration.
That is the case on Week 7 as the remaining nine couples get to don their spookiest costumes to treat us to some tricks on the dance floor. This week will also see the return of team dances for the first time in three years. But with nine couples, it’ll be an uneven 5-4 split into Team Wicked and Team Scream. Billie Eilish had herself in stitches — the drawn-on kind — as she very solemnly voiced the barely-sewed-up Sally in two weekend live-to-film performances of the music for “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” bringing new life to Danny Elfman’s perennially undead L.A. Halloween tradition.
Being revived as a concert event for the first time in three years — but this time over two nights at L.A.’s newish Banc of California Stadium, a bigger venue than the shows’ previous home at the Hollywood Bowl — the “Nightmare Before Christmas” shows featured Elfman reviving his lead role of Jack Skellington (and a brief turn as the supporting character Barrel), Paul Reubens and Ken Page reviving their original 1993 turns as Lock and Oogie Boogie, and “Weird Al” Yankovic doing Shock for the first time.
Naturally, though, some of the audience only had eyes for the young pop superstar joining Yankovic as a newcomer to the occasional concert franchise,...

Gothic holiday favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas is finally receiving a sequel all these years later in the form of a YA novel written by The Wicked Deep's Shea Ernshaw. Disney Publishing has hired the author to continue the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas, but this time from Sally's point of view. Set after the 1993 movie, the sequel will pick up with Sally and Jack Skellington, who are now married. Of course, not everything can remain rosy for the eerie pair, and Sally is sent hurtling on a new adventure when she accidentally sets a Halloween Town villain free.
"This new book, written from the point of view of Sally, takes place shortly after the movie ends. It's the yet-to-be-told love story of Sally and Jack. But it's also a coming-of-age story for Sally, as we see her navigate her new royal title as the Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town.

Lea Michele is more than okay with a little attention from Lindsay Lohan, whether it’s good or bad.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday night, the Glee actress, 33, was asked how she reacted back in April when Lohan, 33, threw shade at Michele’s casting as Ariel in a Hollywood Bowl production of The Little Mermaid.
“It was very interesting,” Michele said with a good-natured smile. “I find it to be an honor, truly.”
“It’s classic, classic,” she added. “It was great — I’m down with it, of course!”

From Funko, the cereals will be sold at Spencer's and Spirit Halloween stores. The first of the line will include Ursula the sea witch from The Little Mermaid and the sinister Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. While the cereal from each will consist of similar shapes and probably taste, Ursula's will be purple while Oogie Boogie's is green. Of course, like other Funko cereal releases, both will also be coming with miniature Pop! versions of the characters for collectors to add to their sets.

On Friday, May 18th, Wamg went under the sea for the 30th Anniversary “Live to Film Concert Experience” of Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl.
There was no shortage of star power as some big names took the stage during the screening to sing all of the fan-favorite numbers. Lea Michele (as Ariel), Harvey Fierstein (as Ursula), Cheech Marin (as Chef Louis), Peter Gallagher (as King Triton), Leo Gallo (as Prince Eric), Ken Page (as Sebastian) and special guest Alan Menken, who performed the songs from the Oscar and Grammy-winning score as the film played on the Bowl’s movie screen accompanied by a full, live orchestra. Not gonna lie, we almost wept, when the beating-heart-of-Disney-musicals himself, Alan Menken walked out on stage and sat at the piano for a sweet rendition of “Part of Your World.”
