“Wow, ok. To be with these [fellow nominees] is such an honor. You’re such beautiful performers this year, and beautiful people. I want to thank HBO. The Academy, thank you so much, and Derek Cianfrance, brother, you did something beautiful,” said the actor, whose nomination marked the series’ only recognition by the Television Academy. “You gave me these performances. I couldn’t have done it without you. It was a great collaboration.”

4 reasons why Sarah Snook (‘Succession’) is heir apparent to the Drama Supporting Actress Emmy

4 reasons why Sarah Snook (‘Succession’) is heir apparent to the Drama Supporting Actress Emmy
The Drama Supporting Actress category is shaping up to be one of the trickiest to predict at Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards. While more than half of Gold Derby’s editors and Emmy experts bet on Helena Bonham Carter (“The Crown”) to claim her first prize, a handful of others see an upset looming for either last year’s victor Julia Garner (“Ozark”) or first-time nominee Sarah Snook, who plays the calculating and ambitious Shiv Roy on HBO’s sophomore sensation “Succession.”

Though it may seem insurmountable for an Emmy newcomer like Snook to best her competition of previous winners, repeat nominees, and even a duo of Academy Award champions, she has both the performance and recent Emmy history on her side. Below, I outline the four reasons why I’m unwavering in my prediction of a Snook surprise.

Why ‘Departure’ Star Christopher Plummer Waited Until 90 to Return to TV
Christopher Plummer has never considered himself a “series guy” before, but things are changing.

The 90-year-old actor stars in Peacock’s new mystery-drama series “Departure,” which makes its U.S. premiere on Thursday after previously premiering in the U.K. earlier this year. The project is Plummer’s first series regular TV role in over 25 years.

Plummer plays Howard, a spirited mentor to a sharp investigator named Kendra, who is played by “I Know This Much Is True” star Archie Panjabi. Howard convinces her to return to the job in order to find out what happened to passenger plane Flight 716 after it vanishes somewhere over the Atlantic.

“He’s crazy about Kendra. The old guy might even be sort of in love with her,” Plummer said of his “Departure” character. “He’s brought her along and promoted her each time, and here’s a job that she doesn’t want

Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer Make for a Thrilling ‘Departure’: TV Review
Amidst an ever-more-crowded universe for streaming services, Peacock is emerging as a place that’s good at one very particular thing: Pulpy imports that pack fantastical intrigue into short runs, and that are better than they strictly need to be. After the surveillance drama “The Capture,” the streamer dives once again into sinister crime stories with “Departure,” a drama that will hook those who seek from their viewing a charge of adrenaline, if not always the most rigorously challenging of mysteries.

On the series, a co-production between Canada and the U.K. that aired in 2019 internationally, Archie Panjabi of “The Good Wife” plays Kendra Malley, an investigator looking into the case of a downed jetliner with only one survivor (Rebecca Liddiard). Her mentor, Howard Lawson (Christopher Plummer), urges her along until he pulls her back, all the while operating with a Plummer-ish suavity and silkiness; isolated from her peers and

Emmy flashback 10 years to 2010: Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Glee’ opening plus 1st wins for Jim Parsons, Kyra Sedgwick, ‘Modern Family’
It was one of the most entertaining and memorable Emmy Awards ceremonies of this century, with an energetic opening, a perennial favorite setting a record, several first-time winners and a favorite drama continuing its reign. Jimmy Fallon hosted the event on August 29, 2010, for his first (and only) time and led one of the best openings in Emmy history. Let’s flashback 10 years ago to that event on NBC.

Fallon began the night with a pre-taped bit in which he ran into cast members from “Glee,” who were despondent that they couldn’t afford to go to the awards show. But – lo and behold! – there’s a singing contest with enough prize money to get them tickets; however, they need a few more people to be eligible to participate. What follows is a hodgepodge mix of celebrities who enter into the fray – Tina Fey can’t “sing and dance as good

Best Movies/TV to See in Sep.: ‘Ratched,’ ‘Antebellum,’ New ‘Fargo’
The only aspect of this year that’s felt like business as usual when it comes to entertainment? August was pretty dead. September, however, is another story. Moviegoers willing to risk the trip will finally get to see Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, at least in the parts of the country where theaters have reopened. And those staying home won’t want for options, either, thanks to some ambitious new science fiction and horror series; an extremely of-the-moment TV movie; and new feature Charlie Kaufman, and the long-awaited return of Fargo.
