Educated at Leeds University, he trained at RADA then joined Olivier's National Theatre Company at the Old Vic where he spent 7 years. On television he won acclaim as George Orwell in 'Orwell on Jura'. He won his only award - 'Sony Best Actor' for 1986 for 'The Awful Insulation of Rage' on radio

Doctor Who: The Tyrant of France (1964) was his first TV role. His fee was 30 pounds.
He was nominated for a 1998 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role of 1997 for his performance in Amy's View.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London, England.
Became an Associate Member of RADA.
