What are you afraid of? It’s only rock ‘n roll. Decades before Michael Dougherty released Trick ‘r Treat there was Trick or Treat, a 1986 horror movie directed by Charles Martin Smith that introduced the world to undead rocker Sammi Curr. The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. We’re still waiting to hear a release date for that, as obviously the company wasn’t able to meet the hoped-for October release window – but while we wait for the special physical media release, Trick or Treat is set to making its streaming debut on the Screambox service this Friday, October 27th! Just in time for Halloween viewing!
Directed by Charles Martin Smith from a screenplay by Rhet Topham, Joel Soisson, and Michael S. Last week, we heard the awesome news that the 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. A specific date for this release has not yet been announced, just that they’re hoping to get it out into the world by the end of 2023 – and ideally, of course, it would be out in October. Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures on this release, and now Felsher has revealed some details to Rue Morgue, confirming that we can expect to see a documentary, a commentary, and interviews on the disc.

The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat is one of my all-time favorites, but since the VHS era it has only gotten a barebones DVD release (which is available for a high price Here) and a Blu-ray in Germany. So this ranks high as some of the coolest news I’ve seen lately: Synapse Films is putting together a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) of Trick or Treat that they’re hoping to send out into the world by the end of 2023!
Full details on the release aren’t available at this time, as they’re too early in the process, but Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures to make sure it’s the best it can be. The livestream announcement can be viewed on Facebook.

Ozzy Osbourne, the Godfather of Metal, may be most famous for his legendary contributions to the music genre, but the Prince of Darkness has also acted in a handful of movies. He's far from the first rock star to do so, but his choice of roles prove his sense of humor and knack for camp. Folks may recognize him from his cameos in comedies like "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and "Little Nicky," or voice cameos in "Gnomeo & Juliet" and "Trolls 2: World Tour," but earlier on he appeared in the lesser-known 1986 heavy metal horror film "Trick or Treat."
Not to be confused with the 2007 Halloween-themed anthology "Trick 'r Treat," "Trick or Treat" is a tongue-in-cheek relic of a time when conservative commentators were denouncing metal music as a serious threat to the public order. The story follows high school metalhead Eddie Weinbauer, played by Marc Price, and his quest...

I think it was last year that I got to see Nightshooters and was utterly blown away by what Marc Price had created with very little money but a huge imagination and a ton of “dare to dream” attitude. I mean what’s the point in making movies or trying to entertain audiences unless you grab your nuts by the hand and run at the wall at a death defying rate screaming “don’t tell me it can’t be done”. Surely that’s indie film making at its core?!
Being a fan of Nightshooters I was always going to check out what Price did next and of course I was turned onto his first flick, Colin, which was pretty damn good too. Now… I have a pretty eclectic movie pallette and very rarely find myself...

One of the best science fiction films of the year, Dune Drifter is an object lesson for all low budget filmmakers. The plot may be simple, the effects work in the opening section may look a bit rough, but the acting is superb and director Marc Price creates a powerful atmosphere. The result punches well above its weight.
We open with a battle. Adler (Phoebe Sparrow) is one of several people flying small, two person spaceships on what is supposed to be a straightforward mission, but when they are ambushed by the enemy, chaos ensues. Crash landing on a nearby planet, Adler manages to set up an emergency survival tent and drag her injured colleague into it, but they have limited oxygen supplies and changing military manoeuvres may lave them without hope of rescue. The only hope comes from an enemy ship which has crashed a few miles away. If Adler.

"There's something else down here with me." 4Digital Media has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi survival thriller titled Dune Drifter, from genre filmmaker Marc Price. This originally premiered at FrightFest in London earlier this year, and also played at the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. The logo on the poster is obviously trying to connect to Dune (which has since been delayed from its date in December) even though the plot of this has absolutely nothing to do with Dune. After a devastating orbital space battle, the survivor of a crashed star-fighter must navigate the harsh environment of a desolate planet to save herself before her life support expires. Starring Phoebe Sparrow as the sole survivor, Adler, with an indie cast including Daisy Aitkens, Simon Dwyer-Thomas, Alastair Kirton, Richard Corgan, Marcus Shakesheff, and Charlotte Mounter. This looks pretty damn good, and thankfully the trailer doesn't give away too much.

I’ll confess. I have a real mushy soft spot for Heavy Metal music. Back in the ‘80s, in my teen years, my buddy Nick and I would crank the latest from Kiss, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Cinderella, etc. And there’s something specifically about Metal tailored to teenagers – that heightened sense of drama we feel at that age, the hormonal urges, and the need to push back against ‘society’. (Right – but please give us our allowances to consume products, okay?)
But Metal also equated with power, which was aligned with evil, and before long, many parents came up with the notion that Metal was Satan’s music. (Is the Pmrc still a thing? Brr.) Well, marketing is marketing, and few Metal bands fought the label (hell, some even embraced it). So it seemed the timing was right for that satanic safe haven, the Horror Film, to meet up with the...

Like a lot of folks, my movie watching is heading more towards a digital future rather than a physical one – and that’s despite my love of Blu-ray and all the cult movies the format has brought us thanks to the likes of Olive Films, Kino Lorber/Scorpion Releasing, Scream Factory, Vinegar Syndrome et al.
Whilst many will decry abandoning discs for digital files there are some bonuses, especially for genre fans here in the UK. The advent of iTunes has brought with it, in a lot of cases, a dropping of the borders. Movies are hitting Apple’s stores that haven’t seen the light of day since the VHS era – there’s even some films available digitally that have never previously been made available to rent or buy on these shores. Ever.

If there’s one thing I will take away from this years Frightfest it’s that this was the year that saw the tropes of the slasher movie return to the horror genre with a vengeance. From the strong final girl, to insane, and sometimes supernatural, killers and the idea that the horror movie is as metal as Iron Maiden… so gloriously metal… And nowhere are those three more prevalent than in Some Kind of Hate.
Reminscent of Trick or Treat, the 1986 heavy metal horror starring Marc Price; and Savaged, the supernatural revenge thriller that played Frightfest Glasgow in 2014, Some Kind of Hate sees tightly wound Lincoln – a...

The 80s were full of many things, leg warmers, giant hair, neon colors paired with some of the most unique music any decade had ever seen. What this decade also brought us was countless films that share the term “classic” with things from the infamous Brat Pack to Stephen Spielberg – the films that came out of this decade were unquestionably unique and littered with style. Of course not every film that came out in the decade is considered a classic, that would just be silly, but you’ll be hard pressed to find another decade that features as many childhood favorites and cult classics as this one. It also brought us the mighty VHS boom and made our beloved horror genre thrive throughout.
This list was painstakingly compiled to represent the essential horror films from the 80s that aren’t necessarily the best; but that represent the decade best as a whole.

In the 80s, rock music and horror movies went together like acid washed jeans and feathered hair. The trouble is, even though many horror movies had awesome rock soundtracks, the movies that specifically featured rock musician characters as heroes or villains varied wildly in quality. Although the rock horror movie has mostly gone the way of the 80s, I’m not sure any other type of music will ever have such a successful love affair with horror. I can’t picture people turning up for a movie called Pop Divas of the Apocalypse, or Death by Dubstep, or even Bloody Pit of Techno Bastards. But what do I know? I’m still stuck in the 80s. Here are 10 of the movies that are stuck with me.

The Cast of The Facts of Life
With a special shout-out to Cloris Leachman, who has looked the same since 1987. Which is to say, old, but not oldER. Most impressive, Frau.
Paul Reiser
Justine Bateman, who was not included with the rest of the Keatons because I'm willing her to eat something.
Skippy from Family Ties, aka, Marc Price

We talk to Benjamin Sniddlegrass producer Jeremy Dylan about funding the film, casting Stephen Fry, and spoofing Harry Potter...
Avid fans of BBC Five Live's Friday afternoon film programme with Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, affectionately called "Wittertainment", may remember Kermode's review of the sub-Harry Potter family fantasy Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief earlier this year, in which he said the film might as well be called Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins.
Across the world, Australian filmmaker and Wittertainment fan, Jeremy Dylan, saw promise in the idea and actually produced an independent feature length version of Benjamin Sniddlegrass And The Cauldron Of Penguins, in which the titular young man learns that he is a Wittertainer, and must be taught magic by a menagerie of characters based on the running jokes on the film programme, including, of all people, Werner Herzog.

Joel Soisson, who was a producer on the 1986 horror pic Trick or Treat (not to be confused with Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat ), tells Moviehole he would be interested in doing a remake. "I am actually kind of interested in a remake," Soisson said. "Problem is, like Bill and Ted which we made around the same time for DeLaurentiis Entertainment group, the rights have been sold and resold from that now defunct company to the point it would take the FBI to puzzle it out. But your reader has inspired me to try. Something in the headbanger's eternal struggle still resonates." The original starred Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osbourne, Marc Price, Tony Fields and Lisa Orgolini.

I'm not sure how the heavy metal and horror movie connection started but it's a match made in hell. The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter. It's a natural pairing. Alice Cooper had been combining Grand Guignol stage theatrics with live music since the 70's. Blue Oyster Cult wound horror and science fictions themes into their lyrics. Black Sabbath took their name from a Mario Bava movie yet the movies and the music maintained a safe distance from one another until heavy metal became the undisputed king of album sales in the mid to late 80's. The two seemed to officially become bed mates in 1986 with Friday the 13th Part 6 when the very same and this time very crazy Alice Cooper provided the synth happy track "He's back! (The Man Behind The Mask)" to the soundtrack. Before you knew it, Dokken was writing the theme song to my...

Colin: Death is just the beginning
This is probably one of the most awesome indie trailers I have seen in some time. It comes from newcomer Marc Price a British director from the UK. Colin is the first ever Zombie movie told entirely from a Zombie’s perspective. Most British Zombie or Zombish films have been brilliant , so I expect no less from Colin.
Our hero Colin is bitten by a Zombie; he dies and returns from the dead. We follow him as he wanders through suburbia during the throes of a cadaverous apocalypse.
"Colin has more than its fair share of gore, along with several ambitious set pieces including a broad daylight zombie vs. human street battle and an epic housebound siege. It is also an exploration of who Colin was when he was alive through the objects, places and people he becomes attached to. The make-up design is beautifully realized.
