Testament: The Story of Moses is Netflix's latest docuseries which highlights religious figure Moses and features an extensive cast of actors and Biblical characters.
Directed by Benjamin Ross, Testament: The Story of Moses is a departure from The Ten Commandments or other Biblical epics in that it focuses more on his inner struggles than his calling or his God. It also explores his presence within the Bible, Quaran, and Torah.

There’s almost nothing as powerful as a good redemption story, and Moses — yes, that Moses — has one of the most compelling redemption arcs in human history.
Testament: The Story of Moses is the new documentary series exploring his life, from his exile as an outcast and murderer to eventual prophet and liberator. The three episodes take the story of Moses far deeper than the conventional wisdom generated by history classrooms and Charlton Heston; in other words, even if you think you know Moses, you have no idea. The new three-part series is directed by Benjamin Ross.
“Anyone who has seen The Ten Commandments as a child was well aware of the more epic elements of the tale,” producers Emre Sahin and Kelly McPherson told Netflix. “The burning bush, the plagues, Passover, the Red Sea, and, of course, the Ten Commandments. What really drew us in was the mystery...

The Netflix original, Testament: The Story of Moses, directed by Benjamin Ross, enlightens us with the power of God. The way Moses had difficulties trying to free his people from the stone-hearted Pharaoh will be brought out. The way Ramesses brought about his own doom by challenging the almighty has been highlighted in the second episode of the mini-series. What atrocities will the Egyptians face as a result of their Pharaoh’s unwillingness to let the Hebrews go? What will Moses do to prove his association with God? Will the Pharaoh finally agree to Moses’ demands? Let’s find out!
Why Did Bithiah Ask Moses To Leave?
Ramesses had a vision that his entire empire was about to crumble. The people of Egypt thought the Pharaohs to be mediators between the gods and the people. This expectation of the people from the Pharaoh made him think very highly of himself.

A priest, a rabbi, and an imam walk into a bar. The young bartender sets down her phone, looks at the priest and asks, “What can I get ya?” The priest says, “Good afternoon, my child. We were just discussing the story of Moses, which may be of interest to you. It’s about service, patience, and–” “Let me stop you right there, Father,” the bartender says. “Before you launch into your story, maybe the rabbi would like to order?” The rabbi turns to the bartender and says, “Ah, thank you, young lady. But my thirst is like the Hebrews’ wandering the desert: meaningless compared to the holy mission of our greatest prophet.” The bartender sips her hard seltzer and looks at the imam. “I’m guessing you agree?” “Absolutely,” the imam replies “The story of Moses carries great wisdom. It deserves to be heard.”
“Well,” the bartender says, “I guess that settles it.

Netflix is doing its best Angel Studios impression with “Testament: The Story of Moses,” a three-part documentary series premiering on March 27, 2024. Angel, the studio behind surprise box-office hit “Sound of Freedom,” is not actually involved; “Testament” is a Karga Seven Pictures production.
Unlike “Sound of Freedom,” “The Story of Moses” will not have a theatrical release. Even if it were cut as a feature-length film instead of a docuseries, that’s just not how Netflix rolls — it wants longterm subscribers, not a one-time box office boon.
“Testament: The Story of Moses” explores the life of Moses and his rise from outcast and murderer to prophet and liberator of the Hebrews, according to the logline. Netflix released the trailer on Tuesday, March 5.
The docuseries’ presentation is part scripted drama, part documentary-style interviews. There are the locusts and the sea-parting and all the greatest hits from the Bible, the Qur’an, and the Torah.

On the heels of his acclaimed stage performance at London’s National Theater for “Phaedra,” Assaad Bouab (“Call My Agent!,” “Bad Sisters”) is set to team with filmmaker Benjamin Ross (“The Frankenstein Chronicles”) and European production banner Asacha Media Group on “Voyager.”
“Voyager” will star Bouab as legendary Medieval explorer and philosopher Ibn Battuta who went on pilgrimage to Mecca and ended up travelling for over twenty years and over 76000 miles across Africa, India and Eurasia, more than anyone in pre-modern history. Battuta logged his experiences of the people, places and cultures he encountered along the way, writing one of the world’s earliest and most famous travelogues, The Rilah, and earning himself legendary status in history. The project is being developed as a series.
Bouab, who is half Moroccan, said “Ibn Battuta is one of the greatest explorers of all time and I would have loved to have had his life.

Disney’s “The Lion King” was the big VFX winner Wednesday at the 18th annual Ves Awards at the Beverly Hilton, grabbing three prizes. Meanwhile. Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” won for supporting VFX and feature compositing.
This now gives the edge to “The Lion King” (supervised by three-time Oscar winner Rob Legato) in the VFX Oscar race. Jon Favreau’s breakthrough virtual production and faux live-action aesthetic was due to Mpc Film’s accomplished photoreal animation. Of course, “The Irishman” has been given a boost, too. And we shouldn’t count out “Avengers: Endgame,” seeking to become the first Marvel movie to win the VFX Oscar, even though it came away empty-handed for its extraordinary end battle and outstanding character work on Thanos and Smart Hulk.

“The Irishman,” with its extensive use of de-aging technology, won two awards, including Outstanding Supporting Effects in a Photoreal Feature. “Missing Link” was the top animated feature with two awards.

Much like the mysterious characters’ laborious attempts to create living beings from dead flesh, “The Frankenstein Chronicles” had a long journey to American audiences. Acquired by A&E in 2015 to bolster its fledgling scripted originals programming, the Sean Bean-starring period drama never made it to the Arts & Entertainment network. Despite success with “Bates Motel,” the cable network couldn’t break through the peak TV pack with anything other than reality television (long live “Storage Wars”), so it scrapped the written word and moved on from such “Chronicles.”
But “Frankenstein” refused to die. The first season was met with strong reviews in the United Kingdom, airing on ITV’s Encore station, and was renewed for a second six-episode run. That much content cannot be ignored in today’s buyer’s market, especially with Bean’s internationally known mug leading both seasons. In swooped the streaming giant, and another Netflix “original” was born.

The Frankenstein Chronicles writer/director Benjamin Ross says his interest in the subject grew out of the era’s “legal grey area” in which anatomy schools looking for corpses to use for teaching purposes got bodies from court hangings and poor houses. Cadavers were hard to come by in those days because it was considered a “great curse” to have your corpse dissected. That resulted in a robust body-snatching market, and an embarrassed government that wanted to promote…...

Rainmark Films, the indie led by Game Of Thrones producer Frank Doelger and former BBC Films executive Tracey Scoffield, has lifted the lid on its multimillion-pound ITV Encore drama The Frankenstein Chronicles.
The London-based production company came close to making the series for Channel 4, but the broadcaster backed out of the project and it became ITV Encore’s first original commission last year.
“This project was in development with C4 for two years but they cancelled it. Fortunately for us, ITV was just about to launch Encore,” said Rainmark managing director Scoffield.
“We sent it to them - not knowing whether it would fit - and they felt like it would sit well.”
The Frankenstein Chronicles is currently in production in Northern Ireland, where it has received funding from Northern Ireland Screen, and Endemol Shine International will be selling the six-part series at MipTV in Cannes next month.

Keen to see Sean Bean go toe-to-toe with one of horror's most iconic characters? Look no further than ITV's The Frankenstein Chronicles.
Exciting news, this. ITV has commissioned The Frankenstein Chronicles, a six-part horror/crime drama from Rainmark films starring the one and only Sean Bean.
It’s unclear whether the monster in this iteration will be comprised of reanimated segments of Mr Sean Bean’s many deceased screen characters. But, you know, it’s fairly unlikely.
In fact, Bean isn’t playing the monster at all, or even Doctor Frankenstein. The former Boromir and Ned Stark will portray Inspector John Marlott, the law-man tasked with investigating the strange goings-on that begin with a mutilated body washing ashore.
The Frankenstein Chronicles, set in 1827 London, was created by Benjamin Ross and Barry Lanford, who previously worked together on Stellan Skarsgård vehicle Torte Bluma.

BBC News reports that Sean Bean will star in a new six-part event series titled Frankenstein Chronicles, a crime drama that will reimagine the classic tale. The series is created by Benjamin Ross (Rko 281), who will direct the first episode, and will be written by Frank Doelger, who has written episodes of Game of Thrones and Rome.
Variety describes the series as being “set in London in 1827 with Bean playing Inspector John Marlott. It opens with the discovery of the corpse of a child that turns out to be a crude assembly of body parts. Marlott accepts the challenge to track the perpetrator of this crime”.
“Marlott’s investigation takes him into the dark corners of Regency London,” Ross said. “He discovers an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, and murder for profit. The rational evidence points first one-way and then another as he contemplates a frightening alternate scenario.

Sean Bean is set to star in the six-part period crime drama series "The Frankenstein Chronicles" for Rainmark Films and British network ITV. The story reimagines Mary Shelley's classic story as a gruesome mystery procedural.
Set in 1827 London, Bean plays police inspector John Marlott who makes a shocking discovery involving a corpse washed up on the banks of the Thames - a corpse assembled from mutilated body parts.
Marlott is tasked by the British Home Secretary with tracking the perpetrator of this heinous crime. His investigations leads him through the darkest corners of Regency London - prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, contract killings, and ultimately something far more horrific than he could have imagined.
Director/writer Benjamin Ross ("Rko 281," "The Young Poisoner’s Handbook") and writer Barry Langford ("Torte Bluma") will serve in those capacities on the project which marks the first original drama of ITV's subscription channel ITV Encore.

Though he’s set to shoot his first film in three years this month, the untitled cyber theft thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Mann is still keeping an eye on what comes next. Originally floated as his next potential film in 2010, Mann started developing “Agincourt” with a script by “Elizabeth” and “The Tudors” writer Michael Hirst before bringing on “Rko 281” director Benjamin Ross for a rewrite. Now Deadline reports that a new writer has been brought on in the form of Stuart Hazeldine (the writer behind Alex Proyas' scuttled take on “Paradise Lost” and co-writer of Moses movie “Gods and Kings”). Adapted from the Bernard Cornwell novel, the film retells the famous battle between Henry V’s English Army and the French Army, and focuses on “a young man with a death sentence who is saved when his skills with the bow catch the attention of the king.

Michael Mann is attached to direct this story of a young man under a death sentence who is saved by his skills as an archer when King Henry V notices him.
The archer develops into a warrior and falls in love with a young woman whose virtue he saved from a lecherous priest, while the king prepares to lead his outnumbered English troops against the French in the Battle Of Agincourt.
Michael Hirst and Benjamin Ross penned previous drafts. Mann will shoot the film after he wraps his Chris Hemsworth-led cyber crime thriller at Legendary Pictures.

Exclusive: Stuart Hazeldine has been tapped to rewrite Agincourt, which Michael Mann will direct based on the Bernard Cornwell bestseller about an archer who comes of age under Henry V as the king prepares to lead his outnumbered English troops against the French in the Battle Of Agincourt. That epic battle was immortalized by Shakespeare’s Henry V. The protagonist is a young man with a death sentence on his head who is saved when his skills with the bow catch the attention of the king. The archer develops into a warrior and falls in love with a young woman whose virtue he saved from a lecherous priest. He becomes the portal to the bloody battle. Anyone who has seen Mann’s Last Of The Mohicans can understand my Eddie Haskell-like effusion over the prospect of the director getting back to a major historical battlefield event (“Stay alive, no matter what occurs.

Unless it relates to his passing or jail sentencing, two Michael Mann-related stories in less than 24 hours is nothing to complain about.
So, just a day after we learned that Mann was adding The Big Stone Grid to his fairly crowded (yet, concurrently, inactive) lineup of projects, ThePlaylist has spotted the mention of another job for one of America’s last living auteurs. While making an appearance on PBS’ Tavis Smiley the other night, Mann said, “I just got back from doing research on [a film] that a man named Alex Sage is writing in Indonesia. It’s all going to take place on the South China Sea, called The Tam.”
ThePlaylist speculates that this title could be referring to Tam Kung, an ancient Chinese sea deity capable of forecasting weather. If that’s in fact what The Tam is about — and we have zero idea in the first place, by the way — it would,...

Michael Mann has been linked with about a dozen film projects since he released his gangster period piece Public Enemies in 2009, and now we can add two more to the pile.
The first was announced yesterday by Deadline, who said Mann had entered talks to potentially direct the cop thriller “The Big Stone Grid” at Sony Pictures.
Based on a spec script by S. Craig Zahler, the movie has been described as a cross between Se7en and Marathon Man, and it is the tale of two New York City cops who uncover an extortion ring. It is certainly a film in Mann’s usual crime thriller wheelhouse and it was reported that Mann wanted some time with the screenplay to re-write it himself to mould his vision before he decides whether he wants to direct it or not.
The news of a second potential project comes from the mouth of the veteran helmer himself.

Michael Mann's list of possible new projects is extensive, but he seems to be winnowing it down to just two. Recently there was some confirmation [1] that Michael Mann would indeed direct a film called Agincourt, based on the famous battle of the same name, as also depicted in Henry V. Independent, the company run by Luc Roeg (Nicolas Roeg's son) is developing Agincourt, with Benjamin Ross rewriting the script turned in by Michael Hirst, and an eventual shoot planned in the UK and France. It appears that Agincourt is still the most likely next film for Michael Mann, but now he is also signed to develop a script based on the book Go Like Hell, with an eye to possibly direct. The book follows the Ford Motor Company's efforts to reinvent itself, and the showdown with Ferrari at Le Mans in the mid '60s. Much more...

In the betting stakes for what project the veteran filmmaker Michael Mann might direct next – advantage has just gone to his adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s Agincourt (announced back in October) and that is music to my ears.
Screen Daily reports that Luc Roeg’s (son of Nic) production company Independent has just confirmed out in Cannes that Mann will direct Agincourt for the company with Benjamin Ross (Rko 281 helmer) currently re-writing and finishing up the script that Mann and Michael Hirst (The Tudors, Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth films) had been working on.
From the author of the Sharpe novels, Agincourt is centered on a skilled archer whose impending execution is cancelled when King Henry V is impressed by his marksmanship. It’s a good old fashioned epic swords-and-shields flick with a love story at it’s core and which builds up to the 1415 bloody battle of Agincourt as it’s finale.

After being exiled to television — he wrote, directed, and produced the pilot for the HBO series Luck, which has yet to debut — following the box office failure of his last movie, Public Enemies, Michael Mann is returning to motion pictures with a period war epic based on a book by Bernard Cornwell, who The Washingon Post has dubbed "the greatest writer of historical adventures today."
According to ScreenDaily (via Collider), Mann will direct an adaptation of Agincourt, Cornwell's novel about one of the most epic battles between England and France during the Middle Ages. Luc Roeg (Fat Slags) is producing the movie, with Benjamin Ross writing the adaptation. Roeg said that Agincourt has "momentum" now that Mann is attached, but it does not yet have a start date.

Michael Mann has officially signed on to bring Bernard Cornwell’s novel Agincourt to the big screen. Though a start date has yet to be announced, Mann will make the film over at Luc Roeg’s Independent film company, while Benjamin Ross is scripting. Agincourt follows the same battle that served as the central clash in William Shakespeare’s Henry V. The focus this time is on young archer Nicholas Hook, a wanted man who fights as a mercenary in France. Upon returning to England, he’s snapped up by new King Henry V, and...

Last October, we learned that Michael Mann was considering an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's Agincourt. Today, ScreenDaily reports that Mann is now officially attached to direct and that Luc Roeg's Independent is developing the project with Benjamin Ross writing the script. Roeg tells ScreenDaily that Agincourt now has "momentum", but it's still too early to predict a start date for filming. Mann recently directed the pilot for the upcoming HBO series Luck. He's also been circling biopics of notorious Chicago crime boss Tony Accardo and Spanish Civil War photographer Robert Capa. Cornwell's novel tells about the famous 15th century Battle of Agincourt through the perspective of young fugitive Nicholas Hook who becomes an archer in King Henry V's fight against the French. Michael Mann has quite a few projects on his plate right now, with everything ranging from a gangster drama to a period piece about war photographer Robert Capa in sight, as well as a drama about gold prospectors even being considered. ScreenDaily (via ThePlaylist) has reported that he’s close to making his next film Agincourt, a medieval story which we told you about back in October.
Production company Independent has announced that they’ll be developing the film with Mann‘s forward pass, and then take it out to a major studio for full financing. Benjamin Ross is currently re-writing the script, and after that’s completed, things should get moving quickly. The only part of the story that remains somewhat ambiguous is just when they’ll get down to shooting; while that’s expected to take place in the UK and France, when it’s happening hasn’t been determined.

The 4th annual Sydney Underground Film Festival, which runs for three days on Sept. 9-11, will screen about 10 features from all over the world and a veritable ton of short films from even further out there.
The fest will open with the latest documentary by a Hollywood icon. It’s Oliver Stone’s South of the Border, which has the director meeting with South American politicians and dignitaries. Also screening is Trash Humpers, the latest film by indie rabble-rouser Harmony Korine, which has been confounding audiences on the indie film fest circuit, and Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void, which has been earning rave reviews.
The rest of the features in the lineup are an eclectic, oddball concoction, including Mladen Djordjevic‘s Serbian atrocity Life and Death of a Porno Gang, Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth’s twisted Netherlands tale Meat,...

It's all well and good for the ladies to don the lycra and strut their stuff in a superhero flick. But can they pull off the serious stuff once the series is over?
We live in an era of film franchises. Major studios seem interested only in films that cost the price of a small nation, boast an array of dazzling futuristic gadgets, and can spawn not just other, bigger films, but a video game, a happy meal, and a shelf full of dollies.
Robert Downey Jr is the current franchise king. He's Iron Man and now he's Sherlock Holmes too – both multi-million dollar successes with endless possibilities ahead. Harrison Ford hasn't done too badly with Star Wars and Indiana Jones, while Ben Stiller is still forging ahead with his Meet the Parents three-quel (Little Fockers is due out at Christmas) and Night at the Museum series.

For some reason, Al Pacino has long been interested in playing the role of Napoleon Bonaparte of France, the infamous French Emperor who nearly conquered the world. Perhaps it is that they have so much in common: they are both 5' 7" tall and have a tendency to talk loudly at random. Sounds like a perfect fit, if you ask me. Now according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Pacino will get his chance to slip into Napoleon's shoes in the adaptation of Staton Rabin's young adult book "Betsy and the Emperor." The book is described as a historical fantasy based on Napoleon's early years of exhile on St. Helena, as seen though the eyes of 14-year old Betsy Balcombe, the tomboyish daughter of a British official living on the distant South Atlantic island. It is one of those tales in which an epic figure is seen through the eyes of an innocent and that innocent's vision...

The Hollywood Reporter tells us Al Pacino is finally ready to play Napoleon, a story I first reported on way back on March 29, 2004 when the film was being referred to as The Monster of Longwood an adaptation of a Staton Rabin's novel "Betsy and the Emperor" about the French dictator's last days and his relationship with a young British girl who befriended him after he was exiled to the isle of St. Helena. Back when that project was bandying about there was also Napoleon and Betsy in the works with Scarlett Johansson attached. The film never came to fruition despite Johansson dropping off as the ages soon didn't match up and Harry Potter star Emma Watson replaced her in the role of Betsy who caught the eye of the fallen French emperor. That project, which was set to be directed by Benjamin Ross, hasn't been heard from since. Now, it...

The father of Billy Elliot actor Jamie Bell has spoken of his shock to learn his son has befriended the gay director who gave him his big break. Director Stephen Daldry gave the 15-year-old British lad the starring role in the award-winning ballet flick, and now treats Jamie like a son, regularly inviting him to stay. But Jamie's father, John - who is separated from Jamie's mother Eileen - is shocked to learn of the friendship. The young actor, who is filming war drama Who Goes There? with director Benjamin Ross, spends as much time as he can at Daldry's Hertfordshire mansion, and has even says he would like the movie maker to be his real father. Angry John says, "What I was unprepared for and was completely unaware of is the fact that Stephen is gay. Not that I have anything against gays. But Jamie seems to be spending a lot of time down there with this man." Jamie himself has said of Daldry, "I suppose I would kind of like him to be my dad and he'd like me to be his son." While mom Eileen says, "It's obviously more than the usual relationship between a director and star."...
