There was plenty unraveling behind the scenes of Constellation, Apple TV+’s impressive new sci-fi series starring Noomi Rapace as an astronaut (Jo) who survives a disaster in space only to return to Earth feeling as if key pieces of her life are missing. For starters, James D’Arcy (Oppenheimer), who plays Jo’s husband Magnus in the series, couldn’t put down the script when he first acquired it. Meanwhile, William Catlett (Black Lightening and the upcoming Abigail), playing a pivotal role here as Jo’s fellow astronaut, Paul Lancaster, was reeling over having the opportunity to work with Rapace, consult with a real-life astronaut, and tackle zero-gravity.
Created by Peter Harness, the deeply layered mystery thriller culled from extensive research from NASA and other consultants to create a truly realistic story. D’Arcy and Catlett shared more about the production, the brilliance of Rapace, and much more in this exclusive MovieWeb interview.

Review: Man, the International Space Station is getting trashed lately. For years, films like Gravity and The Cloverfield Paradox as well as countless others have used the station as the setting for disaster, but this year alone has had more than one project featuring it. First, the horror film I.S.S. made the triumphant existence of a joint space station a thing of terror and now Constellation fills viewers with a sense of foreboding surrounding the orbiting satellite. Directing Noomi Rapace in zero-gravity in a replica of the International Space Station in a character-driven dramatic sci-fi thriller with touches of horror and quantum physics. Apparently, that’s how Michelle MacLaren tops being one of the best producers of Breaking Bad and directing solid TV hits like Better Call Saul, The Morning Show, The Walking Dead, and Games of Thrones. It was all in the stars for the director/producer, who teamed up with Peter Harness, the ambitious showrunner behind Apple TV+’s sci-fi thriller Constellation.

But life back on Earth is far from what she knew it to be. Somehow, significant pieces of her life seem to be missing. Noomi Rapace Put Her Life Back Again in ‘Constellation’ Trailer. The trailer opens by offering more details about Jo’s life, particularly how she has a family eagerly awaiting her back on Earth.
Their reunion might seem friendly, but the tone stays strange, pointing to how Jo’s life has changed since the accident. Her life is not missing parts due to memory loss—not really. In contrast, Jo’s life is entirely different, even regarding her daughter.

Amazon is diving into The Swarm, snatching up rights for its Prime Video service across sub-Saharan Africa for the ecological thriller from Game of Thrones producer Frank Doelger.
The limited series, adapted from Frank Schätzing’s international best-seller, tells the story of a series of escalating disasters emerging from the world’s oceans. As scientists around the globe rush to discover their cause, it becomes clear that there is something bigger at play: an intelligent life force, dwelling in the deeps that is manipulating all life below the surface.
Barbara Eder (Barbarians, Concordia), Luke Watson (Ripper Street) and Philipp Stölzl (The Physician) directed the series, which features an ensemble cast including Alexander Karim (Dying of the Light), Cécile de France (The New Pope), Leonie Benesch (Babylon Berlin, The Crown), Barbara Sukowa (Hannah Arendt) and Takuya Kimura (2046, I Come With The Rain). Doelger produced through his Intaglio Films, together with Eric Welbers,...

The Swarm TV series was produced overseas and was the most expensive German TV production (produced in English) of all time. Unfortunately, expense doesn't always translate into big ratings. The CW is now focusing on airing acquired and low-cost programming and has pulled shows that have drawn low ratings. Even if a second season is made, there's no guarantee that the network will pick it up. Will The Swarm be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.

A few months ago, we heard that The CW had picked up the U.S. rights to the TV series adaptation of author Frank Schätzing’s apocalyptic sci-fi novel The Swarm (you can pick up a copy at This Link). Now Deadline has revealed that The Swarm is set to begin airing on The CW at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on Tuesday, September 12th. A trailer for the show can be seen in the embed above.
The Swarm, not to be confused with the Donald Glover / Prime Video series Swarm, has been a long time coming. But it didn’t make it into production. In 2018, it was announced that Game of Thrones...
