As host of the April 13 episode, Ryan Gosling brought “Saturday Night Live” its biggest Peacock audience ever when accounting for seven days of viewership.
While an exact number of Peacock viewers is not available, the episode’s seven-day total across all platforms is 8.9 million — up from the 1.7 million viewers who tuned in night-of. This comes from a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on NBC and NBCUniversal’s own data regarding streams on Peacock.
This represents the show’s best seven-day viewership since December of 2021, when Billie Eilish served as both host and musical guest. Additionally, the episode rose from 0.3 rating among adults age 18-49 on April 13 to a seven-day rating of 2.0, the show’s highest since Dave Chappelle hosted in November 2022 with Foo Fighters as musical guest.

Ryan Gosling is not a dumbass; heh heh, heh, heh heh heh, heh! Thanks in large part to a “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch that went viral, Gosling’s “Saturday Night Live” episode is the most-watched “SNL” since late 2021.
Counting one week’s worth of delayed viewing (which is fine and normal but really helps when something goes viral) and all platforms, the April 13, 2024 telecast of “SNL” drew 8.9 million total viewers, according to NBC. That’s the most since Billie Eilish hosted the program on December 11, 2021.
The Gosling episode, for which he was promoting film “The Fall Guy,” is the most-watched “SNL” episode ever on Peacock. Gosling’s musical guest was Chris Stapleton.
On YouTube, 46 million users have “viewed a portion of the episode,” NBC said, the most since 2020. That’s an important specificity given the viral nature of the “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch. In all, there were 170 million social-video views...

Saturday Night Live turned in some comedy gold with a recent Beavis and Butt-Head sketch.
And the segment was so funny that the host and several cast members broke into laughter on live television.
The Beavis and Butt-Head sketch has gone viral, partially because of how good host Ryan Gosling was in the part. But the humor was also elevated by several cast members breaking character.
Sometimes, an SNL sketch can break down if the people in it can’t stick to their characters. But other times, having the host break character can add to viewer enjoyment.
Ryan Gosling is someone already known for breaking character on SNL. He has done it in the past, and it happened again several times during other sketches on the April 13 episode.
But one person kept it together during the Beavis and Butt-Head sketch – Saturday Night Live veteran Kenan Thompson.

Is “SNL” new tonight? No. NBC’s late night sketch comedy series is taking a few weeks off, but it will return on Saturday, May 4 with host and musical guest Dua Lipa. The entertainer previously served as the musical guest to Natalie Portman in 2018 and to Kristen Wiig in 2020, but this will be her first time as host.
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. The featured players are: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Chloe Troast and Devon Walker. One of the most impressive parts of the April 13 episode of “Saturday Night Live” was Kenan Thompson’s ability not to break during the hilarious “Beavis and Butt-Head.” During the episode, a NewsNation anchor (Heidi Gardner) attempts to interview a professor (Thompson) about AI, but the conversation is interrupted when Thompson’s professor notices that two audience members, played by host Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day, look exactly like Beavis and Butt-Head.
While Gardner and Gosling couldn’t help but laugh through the duration of the sketch — which has been viewed more than 10 million times on YouTube in the five days since its air — Thompson somehow kept a straight face.
That was because he broke so hard during dress rehearsal, he tells Variety.
“It’s hit or miss. Sometimes I can hold it, sometimes I can’t. I got lucky on ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ that I cracked so hard at dress rehearsal,...

Eva Mendes praised Ryan Gosling’s Cuban accent in the “Can’t Tonight” Saturday Night Live sketch.
Gosling co-starred in the sketch with Marcello Hernández as two men trying to convince their friend, played by Kenan Thompson, to go out with them.
“Coño! My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this!! Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off,” Mendes wrote on Instagram, sharing the sketch video.
Mendes, who is of Cuban descent and in a relationship with Gosling, acknowledged that Gosling picked up the accent by hanging out with her father.
Gosling and Hernández have heavy Cuban accents in the sketch, prompting the waitress (Sarah Sherman) to ask where the three guys were from.
Thompson’s character explains, “I’m Dominican, and he’s Cuban [Hernández], and he [Gosling] is from Tennessee, but ever since he married a Cuban woman, he is different.”

Eva Mendes is sharing her thoughts on one of partner Ryan Gosling‘s Saturday Night Live sketch.
Over the weekend, the 43-year-old Barbie actor hosted the NBC sketch show and in one skit, Ryan played a man from Tennessee who developed a Cuban accent after marrying a Cuban woman.
“A Cuban wife can change you,” Ryan says in the sketch, as he goes back and forth between stereotyped American and Cuban accents.
A few days after Ryan‘s episode aired, Eva – who is Cuban – reacted the sketch.

Eva Mendes offered her stamp of approval on Tuesday for husband Ryan Gosling’s Saturday Night Live performance, shouting out his particularly relevant sketch in which he spoke with a Cuban accent.

Twenty years in, Kenan Thompson is the longest serving cast member on Saturday Night Live, but he likely owes part of his success on the show to his early work on another sketch comedy series, Nickelodeon’s All That, which premiered thirty years ago today on April 16th 1994.
Created as a Saturday Night Live for kids by Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins, All That consisted of comedy sketches performed by a cast of kids, alongside performances from some of the biggest musical acts of the day.
As it happened. Thompson—then fresh off his screen debut in D2: The Mighty Ducks—was the very first person All That viewers saw onscreen in a cold open:
Much like his SNL career, Thompson’s time on All That was marked by a large number of characters including Pierre Escargot, Superdude, and a Bill Cosby impression that he’d later bring to SNL.

This past weekend, Ryan Gosling hosted a spectacular episode of "Saturday Night Live." There wasn't a single bad sketch among the bunch that debuted on the staple late-night comedy series, but there was one clear standout that had pretty much everyone involved breaking.
During a News Nation panel about artificial intelligence featuring Kenan Thompson as an expert on the subject being interviewed by Heidi Gardner, a distraction emerges in the audience in the form of two young men who happen to look uncannily like live-action versions of the animated characters Beavis and Butt-Head, from Mike Judge's comedy series of the same name. If you need a refresher or you missed the sketch over the weekend, take a look below:
Gosling appeared as Beavis, complete with an elongated, prosthetic nose and a big blonde pompadour haircut. After he's moved to avoid any more distraction, he's replaced with Mikey Day as Butt-Head,...

Amid new scrutiny on child performers in the wake of the Quiet on Set docuseries, former Disney actress Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about the moments when she and her mother had to speak up on the set of Disney show Even Stevens, which Romano starred in as a teen.
In a conversation on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast, which also included Bialik’s fellow Blossom alum Jenna von Oÿ, Bialik asked the former child stars about times in which they had to assert themselves during production and what “worked well” in managing to be heard.
Romano noted that there were a couple of times when she was able to have a say in the production choices. One was when writers would come to her to draw from her own experiences while writing for her character, Ren. “They would be like, ‘Hey, you just turned 16. Are boys interesting to you?...

Saturday Night Live‘s Heidi Gardner said she tried mighty hard not to break character during last weekend’s now-viral Beavis and Butt-Head sketch, but seeing fellow cast member Mikey Day in full Butt-Head mode was just too much.

I didn’t know about Mikey’s exposed gums and teeth.
“When I looked and saw Mikey in the dress rehearsal, I lost it,” she continued. “I was shocked. I’m thinking about it right now and laughing. I recovered and tried to tell myself in between dress and the live show, ‘you can’t laugh like that again.’”

It got as far as dress rehearsal, but the powers that be at Saturday Night Live opted not to include a Weekend Update visit from Kenan Thompson’s O.J. Simpson on this weekend’s live show.
According to multiple tipsters who were in the audience at dress rehearsal, the segment saw Thompson-as-o.J. dressed as an angel, complete with a halo above his head, telling Colin Jost about his new life in heaven.
As the bit progressed, it became clear that unbeknownst to him, O.J. is in hell. He described seeing great food everywhere, but it turning to dust whenever he tries to eat it. He said he was back to the physical shape he was in as a professional football player, but whenever he tries to score, he’s off by a yard and has to return to the other end of the field.

Even though Ryan Gosling popped up during Kristin Wiig's induction into the Five Timers Club in last weekend's episode of "Saturday Night Live," the "Barbie" star had actually only hosted the late night sketch comedy show a couple times. Despite having just that pair of hosting stints under his belt, Gosling had already proven he was a reliable and hilarious host. But even with expectations high, Gosling made this third round hosting "Saturday Night Live" an absolute banger, delivering one of the best episodes that I've ever seen. And it wasn't just because of guest appearances by former "SNL" cast member (and recent host) Kate McKinnon or a cameo by Gosling's "The Fall Guy" co-star Emily Blunt. Even without those bonuses, this episode of "SNL" was simply phenomenal.
So let's not waste anymore time. Come with us as we dig into the highs and non-existent lows of Ryan Gosling's latest "Saturday Night Live.

When Ryan Gosling was first announced to host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, most of us expected a giggle-heavy affair. His first two hosting gigs, from "Close Encounter" to "Terrezano's," had Gosling breaking in nearly every live sketch, so it was no surprise when Gosling broke constantly last night as well. What we didn't see coming was just how much the rest of the cast broke, especially in the sketch where a serious intellectual panel is interrupted by two guys in the audience who inexplicably look like Beavis and Butt-Head.
First we're introduced to Beavis, played by Ryan Gosling, who insists that he's not pulling a prank, that he's never heard of Beavis before, and has never been told how much he looks like him. It's an unlikely story, but Heidi Gardener's Bobbi Moore and Kenan Thompson's Professor Hemming are willing to move past it, so long as "Beavis...

Known for breaking character and cracking up Saturday Night Live cast members in his previous two hosting stints on the NBC sketch program, Ryan Gosling stayed true to himself tonight, laughing in every skit he was in, much to the delight of the studio audience, and challenging his co-stars to keep a straight face — even seasoned veterans like Kenan Thompson.
The tone was set in the cold open, reuniting Gosling and Kate McKinnon for a third Close Encounters sketch, in which host Gosling could not stop laughing as McKinnon was demonstrating how aliens observed Gosling character’s private parts close and personal during their alleged abduction. She chuckled a few times too, with the rest trying to hide their smiles.
Then came The Engagement skit, in which Gosling played a newly engaged man having serious second thoughts about his decision to propose.

As the pair discussed A.I., Thompson’s character was distracted by an audience member who looked strikingly similar to Beavis, the animated character created and voiced by Mike Judge. Host Ryan Gosling wore Beavis’ signature flat-top blond hair, a blue T-shirt, and shorts.
“There’s a gentleman in your audience who is strikingly similar to Beavis from the cartoon Beavis and Butt-Head,” Thompson’s character said.
The MIT professor asks for Beavis to move as he distracts him. Gardner turns back to ask “Beavis” to move, breaking character. Gosling’s Beavis is then replaced by a person who now looks like Butt-Head.

SAG-AFTRA is responding to calls for more safety protocols for working child actors following Investigation Discovery’s documentary Quiet on Set.
The five-part series delved into the toxic work environments that many child actors faced working on some of the most popular kids’ television shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including allegations of abuse, sexism and racism.
Jenny Kilgen, a former Amanda Show writer who is featured in the documentary, penned an open letter to SAG-AFTRA urging it to “initiate and institute robust child safety protocols” as well as support federal legislation on the matter.

Nickelodeon has been a part of almost all of our childhoods but it’s safe to say that those memories are now tainted thanks to the documentary, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. While many ex-Nickelodeon actors spoke up against Dan Schneider, Drake Bell is extending his gratitude to the producer for supporting him in his dark days.
Drake Bell in a still from Drake and Josh
For context, Drake Bell recently opened up about the s-xual assault he faced at the hands of Nickelodeon’s dialogue and acting coach, Brian Peck. Telling his story, he revealed that while Brian Peck was committing such atrocities, it was only Dan Schneider who made sure that Drake Bell was okay and was always there to help him out.

It's always a thrill when a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member comes back to Studio 8H to host the late night sketch comedy show. That's especially true when it's a cast member as beloved as Kristen Wiig. That last time the "Bridesmaids" star hosted "SNL" was in December 2020, and it just so happens the best sketch of the night was a new holiday favorite where she plays a mother who gets a robe for Christmas while the rest of the family gets a plethora of better gifts. However, since Kristen Wiig was hosting "SNL" for a fifth time this past weekend, she got a different robe. And she wasn't the only one.
While it's become customary for newly inducted Five Timers Club hosts to get monologue bits that bring back some legendary hosts like Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, it's not always logistically possible to make it a star-studded affair.

It was a big night for Kristen Wiig on Saturday Night Live as she joined the Five-Timers Club. However, she was welcomed into the elite group by a bunch of mostly Non-Five-Timers Club members.
The actress and comedian kicked off her monologue, saying, “I am so happy to be back, and I am so excited because it is my fifth time hosting. So I’m officially in the Five-Timers Club!”
She then took a moment to acknowledge the sketch comedy show’s band, but shortly after, that’s when the celebrity cameos started, beginning with Paul Rudd, who previously joined the club in 2021.
“I also heard a rumor that you might be doing one of those five-timer sketches featuring awesome celebrity cameos,” Rudd said after popping up in the Studio 8H audience. “So, is there like a script or something I could look at for that?” But unfortunately, Wiig informed...

A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020.
The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience..
“As a former cast member, it is very special,” Wiig said. “I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight… they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”
Well, not quite. Soon more stars came out: Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short and Ryan Gosling. None of whom haven actually hosted five times yet.

Saturday Night Live took a break from politics in its cold open to riff on March Madness — more specifically how the women’s tournament has been a lot more exciting than the men’s competition.
The setup was TBS’ post-game coverage, with co-host Kenny Smith (Devon Walker) noting that 14 million people watched the the Iowa-Connecticut game, where Caitlin Clark faced Paige Bueckers.
Fellow host Charles Barkley (Kenan Thompson) chimed in, “The women’s is turning up the stars. Caitlin Clark is going as for State Farm, Subway, XFinity and Nike. I’m only doing ads for three of those companies.”
Later, the anchors go to Lsu coach Kim Mulkey (Heidi Gardner), who says she’s been made up to look “like the Riddler with the Talbots.”

The “SNL” 5-Timers Club has been around since December 1990, when Tom Hanks joked in his monologue that a person’s fifth time hosting is when they receive a membership card into the club. Hanks then left the stage and joined Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon in an expensive-looking set with hors d’oeuvres, waiters and a doorman. The iconic club set would be seen multiple times on NBC’s late sketch comedy throughout the decades, often (but not always) when a new host is anointed as a five-timer. Members of the club are always seen wearing exclusive jackets embroidered with a “5” badge.

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV co-directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz have denied Marc Summers’ claim that he was “ambushed” into appearing on the Investigation Discovery docuseries.
“We are clear with each participant about the nature of our projects,” the helmers said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
Their response comes shortly after the former Double Dare host appeared on The Elvis Duran Show, where he alleged that the directors did not disclose the nature of the feature, which launched March 17 and 18 to big viewership, when asking him to appear.

The filmmakers behind docuseries “Quiet on Set” are not staying quiet when it comes to allegations of misleading interviewees.

Former Nickelodeon game show host Marc Summers is calling out the producers behind true crime docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” for being “unethical” when it came to interviewing him.
Summers, who appears in the first episode of “Quiet on Set,” hosted the game show “Double Dare” at Nickelodeon from 1986 to 1993. The show ended before controversial Nickelodeon sitcom showrunner Dan Schneider joined the network. Schneider has been accused of toxic workplace behavior and mistreatment of child actors, as documented in “Quiet on Set.”
During an appearance on “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” Summers claimed that he did not know “Quiet on Set” sought to expose allegations at Nickelodeon.
“They asked me what I thought of Nick, and the first 10 to 12 seconds, from what I understand, in this documentary is me saying all these wonderful things. But they did a bait and switch on me,” Summers said.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Ramy Youssef may not be a household name, but his self-titled comedy series "Ramy" on Hulu landed him Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, not to mention a Peabody Award in 2020. So, he's got the right amount of experience and accolades to be called up to host "Saturday Night Live." Furthermore, Youssef is an established stand-up comedian, joining the likes of Nate Bargatze and Shane Gillis as hosts this season. But how did he handle the live sketch comedy of "SNL" in his hosting debut?
Well, Ramy Youssef doesn't seem to have much versatility when it comes to providing a variety of characters, and "SNL" leaned back on familiar formulas like talk shows and game shows, though they still delivered some hearty laughs. Having trouble fasting for Ramadan? SNL has a solution… and it might sound familiar.
This week’s Saturday Night Live featured a fake ad for a new prescription targeting the Arab American community: Ozempic for Ramadan, which helps curb the hunger pangs of Muslims who have to fast from sunrise to sunset for a whole month. “I used to rush to eat a whole meal for dawn,” host Ramy Youssef explains. “But now? I just grab my prayer beads and my Ozempic needle. As long as I shoot up before the sun rises, it’s halal.”

While making a stop to the fridge at night, Youssef continues, “I used to rush to eat a whole meal before dawn. But now, I just grab my prayer beads and my Ozempic needle. As long as I shoot up before the sun rises, it’s halal.”

Ramy Youssef cheekily observed the holy month of Ramadan on “Saturday Night Live” with a parody ad offering a simple solution addressing the difficulties of fasting.
“You know, fasting for Ramadan used to be easy. But the last few years, with work and a growing family, it’s felt almost impossible. But not anymore. Thanks to Ozempic for Ramadan,” Youssef says in the sketch.
“I used to rush to eat a whole meal before dawn,” he continues, opening the fridge while it’s still dark outside. “Now, I just grab my prayer beads and Ozempic needle. As long as I shoot up before the sun rises, it’s halal.”
Kenan Thompson also appears in the sketch as a halal cart owner struggling to resist the delicious smell of his own product. “With Ozempic for Ramadan, now I don’t even get hangry when white women ask if I have salmon,...

It’s a feat only 29 other SNL cast members have pulled off: With tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live, Heidi Gardner has appeared in 500 sketches.
That’s according to longtime SNL statistician Mike Murray, who hosts The Saturday Night Network’s weekly SNL by the Numbers podcast. (Full disclosure: The Snn is LateNighter’s podcast partner.)
Tonight’s game show sketch “Couple Goals” was Gardner’s 500th sketch.
Gardner, who’s in her seventh SNL season, is only the 30th cast member to hit the 500 sketch milestone, an honor she shares with two other current cast members, Mikey Day and (of course) Kenan Thompson, whose 21 seasons on the show put him at the top of the list.
Lest you think there’s a direct correlation between one’s tenure on the show and their sketch count, there are quite a few SNL cast members who’ve made it to...

Former “Zoey 101” star Matthew Underwood revealed on Instagram that he was sexually assaulted twice: first at the age of 12 by his friends’ stepfather and again at the age of 19 by his former agent. Underwood shared his past in a lengthy post he shared on the platform.
“I know many folks want me to respond to the quiet on set documentary,” Underwood began. “I’m going to share something with you that I never thought I’d have to talk about publicly, and it’s honestly none of your business anyway.”

On the passing yesterday of actor Louis Gossett Jr., An Officer and A Gentleman director Taylor Hackford and Roots co-star LeVar Burton remembered their late colleague and friend.
“One of the best to ever do it!,” Burton posted on X/Twitter. “Thank you, Lou… for everything!”
In a statement to Deadline, Hackford said:
“The role of Master Sargent Foley in An Officer and A Gentlemen was written as a white man. When I visited the Navy Officers Flight Training Center in Pensacola, Fla, I discovered that many of the Drill Instructors there were men of color. I found it interesting that Black & Brown enlisted men had ‘make-or-break’ control over whether white college graduates would become officers and fighter pilots.
“At that moment I changed the casting profile for Sergeant Foley and started meeting actors of color. Lou Gossett came to see me – I knew and admired his stage work.
