Courtesy of Tim Turner Photography.A sold-out gala tonight at the New York Public Library kicks off the first-ever Manhattan Cocktail Classic, a nearly weeklong event that will draw cocktail nerds, mixologists, spirit publicists, and barflys to the Big Apple to celebrate speakeasies, gin and tonics, spherical ice, er, cubes, and everything that can be imbibed. In anticipation of such an auspicious gathering in the city that redefined the cocktail industry—first with trendsetting speakeasies such as Milk and Honey and now with the mezcal revolution, under way at Mayahuel in the East Village—Vf.com went on a pub crawl with Tony Abou-Ganim, one of the top mixologists in the world. He's the creator of popular drinks such as the Cable Car, founder of the cocktail program at Steve Wynn's Bellagio Resorts in Las Vegas, and winner of the 2007 Iron Chef America competition with Mario Batali.
