Eli Roth just kicked off a new horror franchise with his slasher movie Thanksgiving (read our review Here), as it was recently announced that Thanksgiving 2 is on track for a 2025 release. But while Roth is currently focused on holiday slashing, two franchises he previously created – the Hostel and Cabin Fever franchises – came up while he was sitting down for an interview with CinePOP. And during this interview, he said he hopes to revisit and revive those franchises someday!
Roth told CinePOP, “Hostel, there’s a lot more to do. I’d love to go back to Hostel at some point. And Cabin Fever as well. They’re a part of me, like my children, and I feel like I’ve been ignoring them for too long. I’d love to go back to them, in some way. I have ideas.“

Remakes are nothing new. They made up like 98% of the horror output through the 2000s, and though they have slowed to allow room for other types of storytelling (legacy sequels remain the current hotness), they are still very much a part of the horror landscape. The standard remakes are really no-brainers—a film reaches a certain age and the studio might want to breathe new life into it for an opportune release. Or maybe a director has a particular vision or a way to spin it for a more modern audience. And of course, foreign films are often remade in the US to make them more appealing to an American audience. The smallest subsection of remakes is a little harder to understand, and often leave audiences wondering, “Why?”

"What's your fear?" the titular monster in Travis Zariwny's horror film The Midnight Man repeatedly asks his potential victims. The question is apparently intended to elicit information that he will use against them. The answers aren't particularly interesting, but audience members will probably want to reply, "Having to watch the rest of this terrible movie."
Like the filmmaker's wholly unnecessary 2016 remake of Eli Roth's cult horror classic Cabin Fever, The Midnight Man is also derivative. It's a remake of a 2013 Irish film of the same name, directed by Rob Kennedy, which was never released in America.

As a top-notch cellist, Elizabeth (Louise Linton) is used to handling the pressures of performing at a high level in front of large audiences. Scream Factory has added two IFC Midnight titles—Carnage Park and Intruder—to its November Blu-ray release slate to help horror fans shake off the post-Halloween blues.
From Scream Factory: “We are proud to announce that we have two new IFC Midnight films planned for release on Blu-ray & DVD this Nov!
Carnage Park – It’s 1978 and a bank robbery gone wrong forces two criminals to take a hostage – the young-but-resilient Vivian (The Last Exorcism’s Ashley Bell) – as they go on the run. But things go from bad to off-the-rails berserk when Vivian and her captors wind up in the crosshairs of a deranged ex-military sniper (Pat Healy, Cheap Thrills, Starry Eyes), who ensnares them in his deadly game of cat and mouse. Rising horror auteur Mickey Keating (Pod, Darling) directs this gritty, grisly homage to the glory days of grindhouse cinema.

Home invasion thrillers have become so numerous over the past few years, they're pretty much their own genre now. It's easy to see why they work; they prey on our most basic fear of not even being safe inside our homes. Intruder, from director Travis Zariwny (here credited as Travis Z) is yet another entry in the genre, and even though it's nothing groundbreaking, it at least tries to break away a bit from formula. The victim this time around is Elizabeth (Louise Linton), a cello player spending some time alone and facing some big life decisions. She remains blissfully oblivious to the shadowy figure stalking her throughout her home, going through her books, raiding her fridge, and pissing in the sink, as most unwanted...

Eli Roth is having a very good week. On Monday, the horror writer-director-producer officially signed on to direct the remake of the 1974 vigilante action film “Death Wish,” with Bruce Willis attached to star. Then on Tuesday, Roth landed a horror directing gig for the adaptation of the “Aleister Arcane” comic book, starring Jim Carrey in the lead role. As if that wasn’t enough, on Wednesday, the Jon Watts horror film “Clown” that Roth produced hit #1 on iTunes’s horror section. The film opened in theaters on June 17.
The story of a loving father who dresses up as a clown for his son’s birthday — only to find the suit is cursed and won’t come off — “Clown” famously started as a fake movie trailer Watts posted on YouTube that said “From master of horror Eli Roth” even though Roth had nothing to do with the project. He was so impressed with the trailer,...

A talented cellist wants to celebrate her new gig solitarily, but she and her cat discover they are not home alone in Travis Zariwny’s Intruder. With IFC Midnight releasing Intruder in New York and La theaters and on VOD this Friday, we caught up with lead actress Louise Linton for our latest Q&A feature to discuss collaborating with Zariwny and Moby, the comic relief of her co-star cat named “Dirty”, encountering poison ivy on set, and much more.
Louise, thank you for taking the time to answer some questions for us. Intruder marks your third feature film collaboration with writer/director Travis Zariwny. What do you enjoy the most about working with Travis?
Louise Linton: I enjoy working with Travis because we’re both humble and hardworking. Nothing in this industry came easy for either of us, so we share a similar grit, drive, and determination as a result.

Before jumping into my 1.5-star rant, you must understand that parts of Intruder genuinely skeeved me out. Our homes are supposed to evoke feelings of safety and comfort, yet filmmaker Travis Zariwny suggests that those connections are nothing but false hope. Locks can be picked while we shower, rooms can be entered when we leave, and faces can be touched while we innocently slumber. Messed up, right?
Zariwny finds much more intrigue here than his shot-for-shot remake of Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever – but that’s all before his film’s unforgivable ending. We’re not just talking “bad.” We’re talking “a monumental let-down in every conceivable fashion.” With one soul-sucking decision, Zariwny jumps the shark in the most underwhelming fashion possible – no goods, no payoff, and certainly no grace.
Louise Linton stars as Elizabeth, a concert cellist who’s just been accepted into the London Philharmonic. This should be a joyous occasion,...

Traders Trailer, Poster, and Release Details: Press Release: “Desperate times call for desperate measures, but the scheme at the center of Traders may be the most desperate of all. The twist-filled suspense drama in which young men risk their lives to get ahead stars John Bradley (Samwell from Game of Thrones) and Killian Scott. Traders will be available on Digital Platforms and Cable VOD on July 11, 2016.
Jobs are gone. Homes are being repossessed. Suicide rates are soaring. But newly unemployed Vernon Stynes (John Bradley, Game of Thrones) might have the solution to the despair brought on by recession. He masterminds a diabolical, all-or-nothing plan he calls Trading. Through an underground online network of similarly displaced individuals, two people agree to “trade” by emptying their bank accounts, selling everything they own and putting the cash in nondescript green bags. They then travel to a remote location, dig a grave and fight to the death. Winner buries the loser and takes the two bags.
Then you find someone else and do it again, and again, and again, until you are rich enough or dead, whichever comes first. Like Vernon, Harry Fox (Killian Scott, Calvary, Love/Hate) has lost his job and his dignity. What else has he got to lose? Why not become a Trader? But when Trading becomes an alarmingly popular underground phenomenon, Vernon becomes a participant in the very game he created. Featuring an exciting young cast and sure to appeal to fans of such classics as Shallow Grave and Fight Club, Traders is a daring and troubling look at the depths to which ordinary people can be driven.

Rise of the Black Flame #1 (of 5) Release Details & Cover Art: “Press Release: “Milwaukie, Or— This September, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola,iZOMBIE co-creator Chris Roberson, Criminal Macabre and 30 Days of Night artist Christopher Mitten, award winning colorist Dave Stewart and cover artist Laurence Campbell will present Rise Of The Black Flame. This five issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics will present a dark horror story about an ancient, evil power. In Rise Of The Black Flame, young girls are going missing from the cities of Siam, and the trail leads to the jungle hideout of a bloodthirsty cult– the Cult of the Black Flame.
“There have been several villains in Hellboy’s world who’ve been called the Black Flame, and the striking visual of a skeleton burning with dark flames is pretty hard to beat,” said co-writer Chris Roberson. “In Rise Of The Black Flame, we reveal that before there was a man called the Black Flame, there was an ancient cult hidden deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia known by that name. We plumb the depths of cruelty and ruthlessness that groups of people are capable of reaching, and explore how this cult which reaches back to prehistoric times is connected to the most dangerous villain in the history of the Hellboy books.”
“After all these years it’s still so exciting to find new corners (or in this case a giant shadowy, uncharted abyss of horror) of the Hellboy world left to explore,” said Mike Mignola.
In addition to Rise Of The Black Flame, Roberson and Mignola will be co-writing Hellboy & The Bprd: 1954 and Witchfinder: City Of The Dead. Rise Of The Black Flame will mark the Mignolaverse debut of artist Christopher Mitten.
“It is tremendous fun–and a little surreal–to be given the chance to dive into this fantastic universe,” said Christopher Mitten. “Mike and Chris (with whom I’ve long wanted to work) have concocted a fantastic story, and then there’s Dave Stewart…I mean, Knowing Dave would be coloring and then actually Seeing his artistry in action are two wholly different things. Getting a chance to dip my toe into this expansive world has made me want to dig in and explore more of it, to go off into little corners and find what strangeness, what beauty, lurks there.”
Rise Of The Black Flame #1 (of 5) goes on sale from Dark Horse Comics on September 7. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop!”

Only a pessimist would write off 2016 after 6 weeks, but if you’re a horror fan, the year’s highest profile releases don’t inspire much confidence. Once again, sequels and reboots look set to dominate multiplexes, or if they don’t float your boat there’s always an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Cell. Yippee.
On VOD, things aren’t much better. Released on 12 February, Travis Zariwny’s remake of Cabin Fever (2002) currently holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was dismissed by the Los Angeles Times as “perfunctory and insipid.” Variety called it a “repurposed dud” while Nick Allen said it was “one of those questionably greedy, Xeroxed remakes, where its business is in restating, not just restarting or rebooting, what the original has done.”
Nobody believes that these films are going to be good, so pointing out that they’re not up to much feels like a redundancy.

Whether or not you’re a fan of Eli Roth‘s 2002 feature, Cabin Fever, there are elements that make it one of the early 21st century’s more memorable horror films. As a debut it marked Roth as an energetic film maker to watch, the practical makeup/gore effectively played up the always-disturbing body-horror angle, and it put a fresh spin on the cabin-in-the-woods scenario by avoiding both slasher killers and the supernatural. It also introduced us, without reason or explanation, to the “pancakes!” kid. Sure it’s heavily flawed, but it’s also a nasty little shocker that accomplishes its admittedly slight goals with a messy efficiency. Like any moderately successful genre film it also started its own franchise with both a sequel and a prequel hitting home video in the years since. Neither managed to recreate Roth’s raw, manic mayhem, but they both upped the gross, body-centric gore for those of us into that...

Riddle me this – why remake Cabin Fever, a cult-classic that demands no update, and furthermore, why use the Same stinkin’ script? It’s only been 15 years since Eli Roth launched his gory brand through this little creepshow, and each victim’s festering wounds still hold up surprisingly well against today’s effects, both indie and mainstream.
Granted, Roth does lodge a producing credit, so new director Travis Zariwny is in good graces, but original ideas are already disappointingly scarce enough. There’s no plausible reason to throw a movie we’ve already seen into the 2016 horror mix. No matter how trivial both sequels might have been, at least they attempted something Different. Don’t believe the marketing campaign for Cabin Fever (2016), and its claims that new kill sequences revamp Roth’s infectious brainchild. This is the ultimate remake cash-grab, in the most unnecessary of ways.
Do I need to run a plot recap here?...

I loved the original Cabin Fever! Remember when Cerina Vincent was shaving her legs and her skin started coming off?! Ick! Now, just 14 years later, they’ve remade Cabin Fever.
The director of the original, Eli Roth, is Executive Producer this time for the reboot of his instant classic gorefest, which features all new characters and all new kills. This story is familiar: fresh out of college, a group of five friends retreat to a remote cabin in the woods for one last week of partying- only to become snacks for a gruesome, flesh-eating virus. What’s surprising are the ingenious new deaths, which offer a fresh spin on a horror-comedy milestone. With Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf) and Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3).
The new Cabin Fever is directed by Travis Zariwny and stars Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Nadine Crocker, Matthew Daddario & Samuel Davis

The first trailer has been released for the remake of Eli Roth’s 2002 horror gore-fest, Cabin Fever, and it doesn’t look much different than the original film. I actually kind of enjoyed the first movie, but I have no desire to watch this remake. It’s completely pointless. It’s the same freakin’ story but with different actors. Why was money wasted on remaking this movie?

Hey, did you like 2002's Cabin Fever? Good, because they remade it with the exact same premise and very similar-looking actors! Indeed, everything you enjoyed about the original appears to be intact: beautiful women in bathtubs; beautiful women in bathtubs, screaming; people jumping into lakes; flesh-eating viruses; fratty-looking guys joking about "relentlessly pound[ing]" their girlfriends, etc. And it comes with at least one ringing endorsement: original director Eli Roth, who claims he was "blown away" by it! (He's also an executive producer on the remake, which was directed by Travis Zariwny.) Here's the thing: while I'm not categorically against remakes, I am categorically against remakes that do nothing new with the original material. And since Cabin Fever 2016 appears to be essentially the exact same movie as Cabin Fever 2002...well, what's the incentive to shell out money for it? You could argue it's for a "new generation of fans" unfamiliar with the original movie; then again,...

Another day, another remake. The first official trailer for the remake of Eli Roth's 2002 horror film Cabin Fever has arrived online. I don't know why anyone felt it was necessary to remake this horror film, but they went for it anyway. Eli Roth actually executive produced this new version of his freaky horror hit, which is full of pretty people screaming and getting all bloody and chopped up. The cast includes Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Louise Linton and Randy Schulman. Nothing I'm interested in seeing, but if you're curious about this film, give this trailer a look. The first trailer has been released for "Cabin Fever," the remake of the cult 2002 Eli Roth-directed body horror film. Roth returns as executive producer on this new take helmed by Travis Zariwny which opens in limited release and On Demand on February 12th.
Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Nadine Crocker, Matthew Daddario, and Samuel Davis star in the film which seems to boast much more of a shot-for-shot look than expected. The original deals with a group of horny teens holidaying in a log cabin when a deadly virus causes havoc - leading to some gruesome, bloody kills.

Eli Roth has a lot of fans, God bless him, and he’s carved out a space in the horror world, while still pulling in some interesting acting roles. Still, sometimes news makes you scratch your head.
IFC Midnight has scooped up a remake of Roth’s Cabin Fever, and though we all know that a certain number of horror films have to come out every year, this is a theory that has to make even serious horror fans wonder what’s going on. The idea was announced about a year ago, but you almost had to have the idea that it might go away.
It isn’t just that it’s a remake of something that doesn’t necessarily need a remake, especially since the original is from 2002, but it seems that a lot of people involved in this remake are really interested in it. Really really.

Inane movie remakes have started to resemble Gus Van Sant’s disastrous 1998 shot-for-shot version of Psycho. Taking a cracking original and deciding to film it exactly the same way, you might expect that the result would be a simulacra of the first, albeit with different actors and contemporary fashion. Alas, the Vince Vaughn-starrer failed at every hurdle – but mainly from a lack of charisma between any of the characters.
So, it was interesting to note that Eli Roth had boarded a remake late last year as an executive producer, which proposed to do exactly the same thing. Except, the film in question was Roth’s own horror breakout Cabin Fever. In an unusual twist of events, Roth enthused about the movie then and he’s still excited about it now.
Travis Zariwny (Intruder) directed the remake, along with Evan Astrowsky (who also produced the original film), Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros.

(Cbr) Eli Roth has made just four feature films in the past 12 years, but one of them is already getting a remake of sorts. Deadline reports that "Cabin Fever," the director’s 2002 feature debut, will get a remake or, more accurately, a reshoot. Basically, director Travis Zariwny will use the same script Roth wrote with Randy Pearlstein for the new version. Roth is on board as producer for the film, which starts shooting this week in in Portland, Oregon. There cast includes Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram ("True Blood"), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series"), Matthew Daddario ("Delivery Man") and Nadine Crocker ("Some Guy Who Kills People"). Zariwny helmed the sci-fi creeper "Scavengers" as well as "Intruder," which is supposed to come out this year.

Back in April, it was announced that Eli Roth‘s horror-comedy opus Cabin Fever would be getting remade, so that a new generation who couldn’t afford getting in trouble with their parents again to sneak into an R-rated movie would now be allowed to witness the grotesque beauty of bein’ young and havin’ your skin fall off. And pancakes. Oh, the pancakes. While it seemed strange at the time of the announcement that a film just released in 2002 would already be rebooted (but hey, weirder things have happened), there was at least comfort in the fact that someone — namely new director Travis Zariwny (Intruder) — saw something in the original that lit a fire and produced new ideas and torrents of gore. Think of how many horror films you’ve seen that have involved getting a wild bunch of cute young things up to the spooky cabin that someone has clearly neglected to clean for a couple...

[Variety] Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, aka Key and Peele, have a number of film projects in the works, but their first out of the gate will be "Keanu." And no, it's not what you think. Starting filming next April, this movie will center around a kidnapped cat. And if anyone can make that something like that work, it's these guys. [Deadline] The next project from Peter Strickland of "Berberian Sound Studio" and "The Duke of Burgundy" fame takes a step back in time.

Eli Roth has signed on to produce a remake of his 2002 "Cabin Fever" horror film. Shooting started this week in Oregon under the direction of Travis Zariwny (Intruder), who is using the exact same script that Roth used to make the original movie. "Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it," said Roth. "I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I'm excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They're all fans of the original and want to make a film that's a new classic and I believe they will." The cast includes Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn"), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man) and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl). In "Cabin Fever," a group of college students rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying,...

A remake of Eli Roth's 2002 hit Cabin Fever is coming. Using the exact same script. That'll save a few quid...
This is a slightly odd one. A remake is pressing ahead of Eli Roth's 2002 horror hit Cabin Fever, that's going to be directed by Travis Zariwny. Zariwny's latest film, Intruder, is currently in post-production, and on top of his directorial career, he's got varied credits on a whole host of other movies.
His next project, however, is something of an odd one. It's an odd decision in its own right to go for a remake of something such as Cabin Fever, just over ten years since it proved to be a modest commercial success (leading to sequels). But this is a remake that's apparently going to use the exact same screenplay as the first film. Word for word. Even the shot for shot Psycho remake added a new scene.
