Tony Álvarez(1956-1997)
- Actor
Tony was born to an Army Colonel and an actress mother. His mother died
when he was only 13 years old and he ran away to France where he
eventually became a Pierre Cardin model. He later moved to England
where he met actor John Dommett. At the time, John was starring in the
Australian soap "The Young Doctors" so he suggested that Tony should
try his luck in Australia. Once he'd landed in Australia, Tony found
work as a model and singer before landing the part of Dr. Tony Garcia
in "The Young Doctors". After leaving the show, Tony starred for two
years in the stage musical 'Evita' and also released a single of the
well-known song 'Talking in My Sleep'. During a dry spell, he took work
as an interpreter for the Immigration Department. In 1981, he toured
the UK in 'Cabaret' with the comedian Ronnie Corbett and then relocated
to the US where he appeared in the daytime soaps "General Hospital" and
"The Bold and the Beautiful". He also had small roles in the films "A
Man Called Horse" and "Mambo Kings". After a long battle with cancer,
Tony returned to Sydney where he died not far from the studio where he
first found fame.
