Seven short films, shot on 35mm and directed by 7 of Hong Kong’s most acclaimed and significant directors, form a heartfelt symphony about Hong Kong. In the original plan, conceived by Johnnie To, this anthology was going to be an 8-director piece, called “Eight & a Half”, where each director was given the task to illustrate the zeitgeist of a decade of Hong Kong’s recent history, starting in the 50’s. Unfortunately, John Woo had to leave the project due to personal issues, and the omnibus’ title was changed into “Septet”. Firstly presented at Cannes Film Festival in 2020, “Septet: The Story of Hong Kong” is now finally released in cinemas in China, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Handover.

Ip Man: Kung Fu Master is the latest film to portray the legendary grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu, Ip Man, the real life teacher of Bruce Lee who lived from 1983 to 1972. All the films have been heavily fictionalized, and the Ip Man film franchise is far from unified. There have been multiple actors, directors and filmmakers featuring Ip Man, and this new film is independent from all of those, although confusingly enough, it’s very connected.
The most prominent Ip Man franchise stars Donnie Yen. It began in 2008 with Ip Man and retained the same core team for four installments: directed by Wilson Yip, produced by Raymond Wong, and written by Edmond Wong.
Yip and Yen collaborated in some previous critically acclaimed martial arts films like Kill Zone (aka Spl: Sha Po Lang), Dragon Tiger Gate, and Flashpoint – all of which were well regarded for their high octane...

"Over 7 decades of its history..." An early promo trailer has arrived for the omnibus feature film Septet: The Story of Hong Kong, which is premiering at the Festival Lumière this fall. Seven of Hong Kong's leading filmmakers have come together to each direct a short film set in Hong Kong during one decade from the 1940s to the 2000s. Yet another film looking back at the history of cinema, made by the filmmakers who shaped that history. It's an important time to celebrate Hong Kong as an independent nation and a unique place, and what better way than to highlight filmmakers and stories from there. The cast of Septet includes Simon Yam, Francis Ng, Lam Suet, Yuen Wah, Timmy Hung, Cheung Tat Ming, Lawrence Lau, Emotion Cheung, and Sire Ma. The seven filmmakers are: Sammo Hung, Ann Hui, Patrick Tam, Yuen Woo-ping, Johnnie To, Ringo Lam, and Tsui Hark. Get...

In postwar Hong Kong, Ip Man is reluctantly called into action once more, when what begins as simple challenges from rival kung fu schools, leads to him becoming face to face with the dangerous underworld of the Triads. To defend himself and those he cares about, Ip Man must stand and fight one last time. This masterful biopic proves essential viewing for anyone familiar to the Ip Man saga, encasing sensational action sequences within a compelling drama.

Company to produce series of feature with Hung and his son Timmy Hung.
China’s Tianying Media unveiled collaborations with Hong Kong action star Sammo Hung and Australian post-production company Post Intelligence Company (Pic) at an event in Cannes on Friday (May 19).
The Tianjin-based company is producing a series of features with Hung and his son Timmy Hung, starting with action comedy Lucky 5. The collaboration with Pic sees the Australian post house work on three of Tianying Media’s features over the next three years.
“We hope by creating these cross-cultural collaborations, more international companies will take advantage of the China market by working with Tianjin,” said Tianying Media general manager Wu Jian.
Established last year, Tianying Media is the commercially-driven production and financing associate of state-owned Tianjin North Film Group. It aims to invest $100m in international co-productions and is also developing fantasy thriller Demon Hunter and animation Bobby And Husk.

Sammo Hung has been involved in Martial Arts since childhood and even at the ripe old age of 64, he doesn’t seem to be slowing down (Thank god). It was great to see Sammo back in big movies over the past few years, which includes Rise Of The Legend and Once Upon A Time In Shanghai, both made in 2014.
Here are three upcoming Sammo Hung movies to look forward too this year and fingers crossed he works one more time with Peking opera brothers Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao, before they retire.
*Jackie Chan was set to play the lead role in My Beloved Bodyguard, but due to filming Dragon Blade he couldn’t make the movie. Andy Lau stepped in the role later on.

Sammo Hung is one of the greatest Screen Fighters, Directors and Choreographers in Martial Arts cinema history. Started his early career as an extra in Shaw Brothers productions, then became of fight choreographer on a few of there movies.
It was when he started his career with Raymond Chow at Golden harvest Studios, that Sammo started to show what he could do in terms of action in-front and behind the camera. Sammo Hung has made some of the finest movies of all time and also bringing us some incredible talent such as Yuen Biao, Angela Mao, Lam Ching Ying, Michelle Yeoh and many more.
This is a list of 30 Sammo Hung movies you should check out, this list is also for new fans of the genre. So i hope you enjoy the list and i also mention some other Sammo Hung movies at the end of the page.

Ip Man: Final Fight is the latest movie in production, but this is not part of the Donnie yen series, yet another spin off from the success of the movies like Ip Man – Legend Is Born.
The three leading actors in the movie are Anthony Wong, Gillian Chung and Jordan Chan, all which have studied Wing Chun before the filming of the movie. Anthony Wong will play an older version of Ip Man whilst Gillian Chung and Jordan Chan will play Yip’s students. The cast also includes Anita Yuen, Eric Tsang and Timmy Hung.
Also out this year is the movie Grand Masters, another movie based on the legend of Ip Man, which will star Tony Leung and of course Ip Man 3 – 3D, as Donnie Yen steps back in to play probably the biggest part in his career.
The movie will probably be released sometime in 2013.

Princess And Seven Kung Fu masters is the latest project from director Wong Jing (City Hunter) and will star kung fu legends Sammo Hung and Yuen Wah.
Plot
During the early years of the Republic era, in the North-East region of China, the people are suffering from the power struggle among the local Warlords, bandits, and Japanese invaders. Warlord Lam (Sammo Hung), is not a leader of great vision, but having a patriotic heart, stands firm in his own beliefs, despite the several solicitations and temptations from Japan.
The only ‘paradise’ within the region is ‘Lucky Town’, the one place where no one dared to attack. Rumors abound that this place is cursed, for whenever anyone attempted to invade Lucky Town, they would disappear and vanish without a trace. In reality, there are seven kung fu masters who have retreated into the shadows and resided here. They are Manysons (Eric...

Since my Chinese is a little rough around the edges (read: non-existent), the specifics of the upcoming Sammo Hung flick “Choy Lee Fut” — which is named after a form of Chinese martial arts — are lost on me. From what I can gather, it’s just another martial arts flick set within the world of organized fighting. The embedded trailer is a rough one, as some of the footage shows the actors performing in front of a green screen. That having been said, I’m always down for a little Sammo Hung-choreographed action, even if it comes in extremely brief bits and pieces. I’m sure more information will pop up as the release date closes in, but for the meantime, this will have to do. Here’s a brief synopsis courtesy of Screen Power: The film is based around martial arts enthusiasts Kane Kosugi and Timmy Hung who go...
