The reggaeton feuds keep coming. Over the weekend, the rapper Jhayco launched into a lengthy tirade on Instagram Live and went after Puerto Rican artist/songwriter Mora and Colombian singer J Balvin, accusing both of them of being fake friends.
Jhayco appeared in his Instagram Live video in sunglasses with music blaring in the background. As he spoke to his fans, he dove into his feud with the artists, starting with Mora, who he has collaborated with in the past. (The two of them teamed up for “Pégate (Remix)” a...

When life gives you lemons, you have to make lemonade - and that's exactly what Shakira did after heartbreak. When the Colombian pop star learned in 2022 that Gerard Piqué, her partner of 11 years and the father of her two sons, was cheating on her, I'm sure it felt as if her life was falling apart. But when she couldn't bear the pain and the betrayal, she did what most musicians do - she turned it into art.
The first song Shakira released that was directly related to the breakup was 2022's "Te Felicito" with Puerto Rican Latin trap artist Rauw Alejandro. The song not only marked Shakira's comeback, it was also the first in a string of singles that would display her healing journey to the world and eventually become part of her latest highly anticipated album, "Las Mujeres Ya no Lloran," which was released on March 22.

The 2018 film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, was a boldly stylistic and striking foray into the flagging superhero genre, and featured a wild multi-dimensional story that brought multiple Spider-People (and a Spider-Pig) together from various threads in Marvel Comics canon. The main character was Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), although audiences also met a few versions of the original Spider-Man Peter Parker as well. Critics and audiences loved "Into the Spider-Verse," and the film would go on to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The 2023 sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" resembled "The Matrix Reloaded" in many ways. It was twice as visually dazzling, and it was more narratively ambitious ... and it was only half of a movie. For being so much bigger, "Across" is ultimately the lesser movie. We'll have to wait to see if "Across the Spider-Verse" is good after we see "Beyond the Spider-Verse,...

Eighteen years ago, before his debut on the 2005 compilation album "Sangre Nueva," not many were familiar with Puerto Rican reggaetón artist Arcángel. In the early days of his music career, Arcángel would sing on mixtapes for his friends and for locals in the rough San Juan neighborhoods of Villa Palmeras and La Perla, where he grew up. But these days, he has millions of listeners tuning in to his music, making him one of the biggest stars of the genre.
As Arcángel sits down for our virtual interview, his usual sunglasses are off. He looks straight at the webcam - not the screen - as if having a face-to-face conversation.
There's a startling amount of empathy in his eyes, which is both surprising and not when you consider his tumultuous early years, marked by hustling on the streets and finding ways to get by. People tend to associate that kind of life with cynical personalities,...

The academy has a tough decision that ultimately comes down to Karol G’s history-making accomplishments or Tainy’s sprawling production genius. Both artists are familiar to Grammy voters: Karol cinched her first nomination in 2022, for her album KG0516, while Tainy won last year thanks to his credits on the Bad Bunny blockbuster Un Verano Sin Ti.

Karol G is at the best moment in her career. Amid dropping the history-making album "Mañana Será Bonito" and selling out stadiums across the United States, the Colombian superstar will receive a special honor at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards: the Spirit of Hope Award award, which recognizes an artist's humanitarian and philanthropic work.
Before becoming Karol G, she was born Carolina Giraldo Navarro in Medellín, Colombia. Her journey to becoming one of today's top Latina pop stars was many years in the making. Karol G came up alongside two guys from her city, J Balvin and Maluma, though her ascent wasn't as quick as theirs. Karol G's tenacity to make it as a woman in a men-dominated reggaetón scene eventually led to her debut album, the aptly titled "Unstoppable," in 2017.

Ricardo Bermúdez remembers his father, with whom he didn't have the closest relationship with, leaving behind tapes of car racing compilations the few times he deigned to visit. This wasn't unusual because his father worked with cars, so little Ricardo would often sit down and watch the tapes out of curiosity and to pass the time. It was here, via the video's rollicking soundtrack, that he discovered artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Dmx, and others. Bermúdez was already a fan of reggaetón, as are most kids who grow up in Puerto Rico. But American hip-hop began to captivate him just as much. Years later, that mix of influences would eventually trace his arc towards new musical ambitions and a new moniker most people now know him by today: Tommy Blanco.

It's been a year since Manuel Turizo's hit single "La Bachata" went viral, and the Colombian singer hasn't slowed down since. This March, he released his highly anticipated third studio album, "2000." The LP beautifully captures what the 23-year-old artist has become famous for - exploring different sounds and genres.
"I love to try different things. Each time I go to the studio and I'm looking for a single, I try to find what else I can do in music - what else can I show to the people in music," Turizo tells Popsugar. "I'm not that type of artist that's just going to [work] in a straight line, only in one style, or in one genre."

Publicist Cristina Novo-Bernal has been around music all her life. The daughter of a Peruvian mother and Argentinian father, she was born in Lima, Peru, but grew up in Miami. Her father was a concert promoter and also owned a nightclub; the family still has footage of little Cristina on stage with performers, singing alongside them. "Music is kind of all I've known and all I know," she tells Popsugar.
Now one of the preeminent publicists in Latin music, Novo-Bernal represents clients like Nicky Jam, Anuel AA, and Lenny Tavárez. Still, the 42-year-old couldn't have predicted that her career - as well as greater recognition of Latin music on the international stage - would take the twists and turns it has. With an attitude of "create your own lane," Novo-Bernal has solidified her place in a historically cutthroat industry. And despite her long and successful career, she promises she's just getting started.

Shakira has hit out at her ex Gerard Piqué in her new song “Tdg”, telling him: “You’re no longer welcome.”
The Colombian star’s track is believed to be targeting the former Barcelona footballer and his girlfriend Clara Chia, with Shakira singing: “Seeing you with the new one hurt me.”
She also sings: “What we lived I forgot. And that is what has offended you. And life has got even better for me. You are no longer welcome here.
“I saw what your girlfriend threw at me. That doesn’t even make me angry, I laugh, I laugh.”
“Tdg” sees Shakira collaborate with Karol G, who broke up with rapper Anuel AA two years ago. The track is also perceived to be about that split.
Shakira, who has two children with Piqué, announced that their relationship had ended after 11 years in June 2022. There were rumours that Piqué had been unfaithful.

The year 2021 was a complicated one for reggaetonera Karol G. The Colombian music artist was heartbroken - she and Puerto Rican reggaetonero Anuel AA had broken up after making their relationship public with their 2019 duet "Secreto." It was also the year she released "KG0516," an album that included megahits "Tusa" in collaboration with Nicki Minaj, and "Bichota," a feminist theme song whose title refers to a word Karol G coined to mean "a strong woman leader."
But despite the success of the two singles and the LP, Karol G, born Carolina Giraldo Navarro, was going through it. She found herself feeling sad and angry at certain points and joyful at others. And while she was grateful for it all, the singer also feared she wasn't going to be able to put out music that would top the success of "Tusa." It was a year full of...

The diss track is ubiquitous in music, and it’s an especially common fixture in reggaeton. The genre, which flourished in Puerto Rico’s underground in the Nineties, drew heavily on hip hop and dancehall, two genres in which feuds between artists and crews erupt regularly. In reggaeton, those influences, along with the realities of organized crime lurking around the industry, gave rise to the tiraera (call it “tiradera” at your own risk). A slang term for diss tracks, tiraeras became almost like a rite of passage for artists who...
