Özkan Arslan was born in Hamburg (Germany) to a family of Turkish
ancestry. He studied Media and Communication Sciences at the University
of Trier and the Sorbonne University (Paris IV) and worked for
production companies from producers like Francis Ford Coppola or
Nicolas Cage. In 2001 he received the Körber Foundation's German Study
Award for his thesis "What does the android do in film?" After moving
to Berlin he graduated in scriptwriting and documentary filmmaking.
Among his teachers were Rosa von Praunheim, Jens Becker, Oliver
Schütte, Petra Lüschow, Andreas Dresen, Jean-Marc Lesguillons and
Academy Award® winning director Pepe Danquart. Özkan Arslan is a member
of the Screenwriters' Guild of Germany.
