The Directors Guild Awards, which includes assistant directors and production managers in its voting body, tends to go more mainstream and American than the Oscars’ more tony and international-leaning Directors Branch. Among the international directors, French-Canadian Denis Villeneuve was expected to land a DGA spot for desert epic “Dune: Part Two.” Why didn’t he, after landing a DGA nomination for “Part One”? There are currently three different fires, with the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire causing the most damage, ravaging through Pacific Palisades and causing over 30,000 residents to evacuate.

Several celebrities have also had to evacuate, with some even losing their homes due to the wildfire.

Due to the wildfires and the excessive winds, many Hollywood events and premieres have either been canceled or postponed, and several TV shows have had to pause production for safety.

Netflix has canceled “The Night Agent” Season 2 premiere in New York City scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14. “In light of the current crisis in Los Angeles, the red carpet has been canceled,” the streamer said in a statement.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are always good for a significant surprise or two, and this year’s SAG Awards nominations were no different. On Wednesday, as the Screen Actors Guild announced its contenders for 2025 honors in film and television, several big names were rewarded — including Wicked, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Perez — while some were left ignominiously behind. Ahead, the biggest snubs and surprises at this year’s SAG Awards.

Snub: Angelina Jolie (Maria) in Best Actress

Jolie’s Oscar candidacy has taken some serious hits over the last several days, and her snub by the Screen Actors Guild is the latest tough blow following her BAFTA Awards longlists omission and loss at the Golden Globes. The Maria star can still receive an Oscar nomination, of course – the BAFTA Awards and SAG Awards similarly snubbed Kristen Stewart, but she was still ultimately an Oscar nominee. The 31st annual SAG Awards have been announced via official press release, with “Wicked” and “Shōgun” leading film and TV nominations, respectively, with five nominations each.

On the film side, “A Complete Unknown” and “Emilia Pérez” had the second best hauls with four nominations each. Same goes for “The Bear” on the TV side, which also earned four nominations. In terms of individual nominees, the Screen Actors Guild feted many surprise nominees, from “The Last Showgirl” stars Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis both being nominated, to Jonathan Bailey getting in for “Wicked,” and Kathy Bates becoming a double nominee this year for her roles in “Matlock” and “The Great Lillian Hall.”

In addition to the slate of nominees, actress and activist Jane Fonda will be at the ceremony to receive SAG-AFTRA‘s highest tribute, the SAG Life Achievement Award.

Wicked and Shogun dominated the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations on Wednesday, each landing five nominations — including unexpected acting bids for supporting actors Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) and Tadanobu Asano (Shogun). The full list of nominations can be found below.

Wicked ruled the film side, tying a SAG Awards record for film nominations. The Universal musical received recognition for its acting and stunt ensembles and individual nominations for stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Bailey.

Just behind with four nominations is the Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, which landed an ensemble nomination and individual citations for star Timothee Chalamet and supporting actors Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro.

Netflix’s top contender, Emilia Perez, received three nominations: ensemble, Film Actress for Karla Sofia Gascon, and Film Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldana.

Neon’s Anora also received three nominations: ensemble, Film Actress for Mikey Madison, and Film Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov.

Nominations for the 2025 SAG Awards were unveiled this morning, after the group’s scheduled in-person announcement was canceled amid the unfolding wildfire tragedy in Los Angeles. See the full list below, followed by a breakdown of noms by film and TV show..

Vying for the marquee film ensemble category are the casts of A Complete Unknown, Anora, Conclave, Emilia Pérez and Wicked.

Up for the lead actor prize are Golden Globe winner Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Daniel Craig (Queer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing) and Ralph Fiennes (Conclave).

The lead female actor race is among Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora) and Golden Globe winner Demi Moore (The Substance).

Overall, Wicked leads the film field with five nominations, followed by A Complete Unknown with four and Anora and Emilia Pérez with three each.

All four films are nominated for the SAG Awards’ top prize of best cast, along with Conclave, which landed two nominations, as did The Last Showgirl.

Wicked‘s other nominations are for best actress (Cynthia Erivo), best supporting actress (Ariana Grande), best supporting actor (Jonathan Bailey) and stunt ensemble.

A Complete Unknown star Timothée Chalamet is up for best actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan, with Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro landing supporting actor and actress nominations for their roles as Pete Seeger and Joan Baez, respectively.

In addition to best cast, Emilia Pérez is up for best actress (Karla Sofía Gascón) and supporting actress (Zoe Saldaña), coming on the heels of Saldaña’s best supporting actress Golden Globes win.

Kathy Bates… and Kathy Bates are among the nominees for the 2025 SAG Awards, announced on Wednesday morning.

All told, FX’s Shōgun leads the TV pack with five total nominations, followed by FX/Hulu’s The Bear (with four nods) and HBO’s The Penguin (three).

Anora star Mikey Madison, David Jonsson and Marisa Abela are among BAFTA’s 2025 Rising Star nominees.

The full list this year includes Jharrel Jerome (Unstoppable) and Nabhaan Rizwan (In Camera) alongside Abela (Back To Black), Madison and Jonsson (Alien: Romulus). The five named were unveiled on Tuesday during a London press conference at The Savoy Hotel.

The Rising Star award, now in its 20th year, is the only prize voted for by the British public. The voting window is now open and the final round to determine 2025’s winners runs Jan. 19-Feb. 13. The Ee BAFTA Film Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The full list of five nominees this year are: Marisa Abela (Back To Black), Mikey Madison (Anora), Jharrel Jerome (Unstoppable), David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus), and Nabhaan Rizwan (In Camera).

The nominees were announced today during a press conference at The Savoy Hotel in London. The press conference was hosted by film critic Ali Plumb.

Now in its 20th year, the Rising Star award is the only BAFTA voted for by the British public. The voting window is now open. The final round of voting to determine BAFTA winners takes place between January 19 and February 13. The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony takes place on February 18.
