The Marlow Murder Club is one of the exciting new PBS Masterpiece TV shows.

The adaptation of Robert Thorogood’s novel premieres its first season on October 27 in a four part series starring Samantha Bond as Judith Potts, Jo Martin as Suzie Harris, Cara Horgan as Becks Starling and Natalie Dew as DS Tanika Malik.

In the series, Judith, Suzie and Becks start an investigation. To assist with official police investigation, headed by Tanika, They must suspect witnesses, and face down real danger as they work against the clock to stop the killer in their tracks.

With Season 1 coming to an end on Sunday (November 17), fans are curious whether the show will be getting a second season.

Set amongst the rolling hills and riverbanks of Buckinghamshire is the idyllic town of Marlow, where quaint cottages nestle alongside sprawling mansions. It’s the kind of place where neighbors chat over garden fences and life moves at an unhurried pace. However, darkness is about to fall on this picturesque community.

The Marlow Murder Club introduces us to retired archaeologist Judith Potts, living out her golden years immersed in crossword puzzles from her home overlooking the Thames. Nearby resides her neighbor Stefan, though an ominous shadow soon crosses his garden during an otherwise peaceful afternoon. A gunshot cracks the silence, and though Judith is the sole witness, no body or weapon can be found.

Unconvinced by the police investigation led by determined DS Tanika Malik, Judith recruits the help of local dog walker Suzie Harris and vicar’s wife Becks Starling. Thus forms the titular murder club, as these unlikely...

Jo Martin's Doctor Who character completely shattered what I thought I understood about the Doctor's timeline, but the confusing Timeless Child twist aside, her Tardis created another problem with franchise canon. Because Doctor Who has been going for so long, I completely understand why there would be certain inconsistencies with the universe's lore. Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill are back as the Thirteenth Doctor and Yasmin Khan for a series of Doctor Who audio advenures for Big Finish.

Big Finish has been recording new stories with various incarnations of The Doctor since 1999 – in fact, to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary, Big Finish is releasing a special edition of its first ever story, Sirens Of Time. There was also huge excitement in 2020 when the notoriously reticent Christopher Eccleston reprised his role as the Ninth Doctor on audio.

Jodie Whittaker has spoken at length in interviews about how much she loved her time on the show and how she would jump at the chance to go back.

Big Finish has confirmed that, in partnership with BBC Studios, Whittaker and Mandip Gill – who played her companion Yasmin Khan – will reprise their roles for a series of 12 hour-long audio adventures, the first of which will be released in July 2025.

Doctor Who season 14 introduces a mysterious new Doctor seen among holograms of past regenerations. The new Doctor, resembling Richard E. Grant, may be the Shalka Doctor. The Fifteenth Doctor's lack of reaction to the mysterious hologram raises questions about their awareness of this new regeneration.

Doctor Who lives up to its title as season 14 sneakily introduces a mystery face into the Doctor's regeneration line, but this newcomer may actually be a ghost from the franchise's past. Doctor Who periodically likes to remind audiences of old regenerations, whether via the scribbled drawings of John Smith in "Human Nature," or when the Atraxi examined its records on Earth before promptly running away in "The Eleventh Hour." The trope resurfaces in Doctor Who season 14, episode 6, "Rogue," as Rogue's ship scans the Doctor and conjures up a series of holograms depicting past regenerations.

When teasing “Dot and Bubble”, Russell T Davies described the episode to Doctor Who Magazine as a “step into Black Mirror territory”. It certainly wears that inspiration on its sleeve, down to the specific instalment of Black Mirror it seems to be aping, “Nosedive”. The arch, vaguely Stepfordian tone, the broad swipe at social media, and the pastel tones of the production design are all very evocative of that episode of Charlie Brooker’s dark anthology show.

But this story of a far-future gated community where vapid rich kids are being systematically eaten alive by horrifying giant slugs also owes a tonal debt to Black Mirror. While for the most part a pitch-dark comedy, and generally pretty effective on that front, “Dot and Bubble” also shares Black Mirror’s self-consciously bleak world view, which – like the aforementioned vapid rich kids – takes some digesting.

Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s batch of Time Bandits will make their debut on Wednesday, July 24 on Apple TV+.

Asia Argento (“The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things”), Frances Barber (“A Bird Flew In”), Tamer Hassan (“The Football Factory”), Laura Whitmore (“Sadhbh”) and child actor Erin Ainsworth have joined the cast of “A Mother for an Hour.”

The film, which is being directed by Giga Agladze, follows the story of a woman who poses as the lost mother of a dying child and discovers through this act a world of deceit and violence.

Agladze’s most recent movie is surrealistic drama “The Other Me” (2022), starring Jim Sturgess and Andrea Pejic, executive produced by David Lynch.

It’s succession season at the UK’s National Theatre with Rufus Norris, the institution’s Artistic Director, announcing that he will step down in 2025 after a decade in the post.
