In the second episode of The Marlow Murder Club, Judith (Samantha Bond), Becks (Cara Horgan), and Suzie (Jo Martin) apparently decided that ignoring police warnings is a perfectly reasonable hobby for retirees with a penchant for true crime podcasts. Despite Detective Inspector Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew) pointedly suggesting they stick to knitting or competitive bingo, […]

Set amongst the rolling hills and riverbanks of Buckinghamshire is the idyllic town of Marlow, where quaint cottages nestle alongside sprawling mansions. It’s the kind of place where neighbors chat over garden fences and life moves at an unhurried pace. However, darkness is about to fall on this picturesque community.
The Marlow Murder Club introduces us to retired archaeologist Judith Potts, living out her golden years immersed in crossword puzzles from her home overlooking the Thames. Nearby resides her neighbor Stefan, though an ominous shadow soon crosses his garden during an otherwise peaceful afternoon. A gunshot cracks the silence, and though Judith is the sole witness, no body or weapon can be found.
Unconvinced by the police investigation led by determined DS Tanika Malik, Judith recruits the help of local dog walker Suzie Harris and vicar’s wife Becks Starling. Thus forms the titular murder club, as these unlikely...

Chris Chibnall's Timeless Child twist is probably the former showrunner's biggest and most controversial addition to Doctor Who canon, but it also paradoxically explains one of the potential plot holes opened by the storyline. Doctor Who's Disney era has gently referenced Chibnall's divisive addition to the show's continuity, but it hasn't focused on it all that much. The Doctor's Tardis was also affected by the shocking reveal due to the strong connection between the Time Lord and the iconic blue box. However, the Timeless Child storyline also explains why the Tardis looks so recognizable.
The Tardis has been a huge part of the show's formula ever since the very first episode of Doctor Who's classic era. Although it holds the potential to blend in seamlessly with its surroundings, it's never seen as anything other than a 1950s police box. Of course, the show had long explained why...

Jo Martin's Doctor Who character completely shattered what I thought I understood about the Doctor's timeline, but the confusing Timeless Child twist aside, her Tardis created another problem with franchise canon. Because Doctor Who has been going for so long, I completely understand why there would be certain inconsistencies with the universe's lore. With so many writers contributing to the vast worldbuilding, some things are going to slip through the cracks. However, some information, in my opinion, needs to remain concrete, and Chris Chibnall toyed far too much with some of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time.
When the Fugitive Doctor made her debut back in 2020, I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking she was a future version of the famous Time Lord. She wasn't one of the many actors to have already played the Doctor, so logic would dictate she was from a later point in the character's timeline.

The Fugitive Doctor's (Jo Martin) long-awaited Doctor Who audio drama has the mysterious Time Lord incarnation facing her greatest enemies while on the run from Division. Martin made a surprise debut in season 12's "Fugitive of the Judoon" as a Doctor incarnation pre-dating William Hartnell's First Doctor who is evading capture by the Time Lords and hiding on Earth. Martin will make her Big Finish audio debut in the concluding chapter of the 60th-anniversary event "Once and Future" in "Coda-The Final Act," facing off against Jonathan Carley's young War Doctor.
Audiences will finally get a new glimpse into the Fugitive Doctor's life on the run as Big Finish announced the release date for Doctor Who: The Fugitive Doctor: Most Wanted. Masterpiece’s new British mystery The Marlow Murder Club opens with retired archeologist Judith Potts leaving her inherited mansion by the River Thames in the sleepy village of Marlow and heading for her nightly au naturel evening swim. But when she hears a gunshot outside her neighbor’s house and calls the police to report a crime, she’s not taken seriously. And when that neighbor, an art gallery owner, appears to be missing, she has to do her own gumshoeing, including interrogating a shady antiques dealer she deems a suspect. Johan Persson More murders follow. Next: a kindly widower is shot dead in his home. Seeking a connection between the two crimes, Judith decides to work with the deceased’s dear friend, dog walker Suzie Harris, and the vicar’s overlooked wife, Becks Starling. “The three of them become a very unlikely collections of sleuths,” says Bond. “...

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill are back as the Thirteenth Doctor and Yasmin Khan for a series of Doctor Who audio advenures for Big Finish.
Big Finish has been recording new stories with various incarnations of The Doctor since 1999 – in fact, to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary, Big Finish is releasing a special edition of its first ever story, Sirens Of Time. There was also huge excitement in 2020 when the notoriously reticent Christopher Eccleston reprised his role as the Ninth Doctor on audio.
Jodie Whittaker has spoken at length in interviews about how much she loved her time on the show and how she would jump at the chance to go back.
Big Finish has confirmed that, in partnership with BBC Studios, Whittaker and Mandip Gill – who played her companion Yasmin Khan – will reprise their roles for a series of 12 hour-long audio adventures, the first of which will be released in July 2025.

Paddington and Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville, Michael Socha and Ella Bruccoleri (Bridgerton) have grabbed the lead roles in the crime comedy Go Away!

Richard E Grant's Doctor makes a surprising return to Doctor Who canon in a holographic cameo, connecting past and present storylines. Grant's animated Doctor in "Scream of the Shalka" now poses questions about his place in the Time Lord's regeneration cycle within the main continuity. Russel T Davies' inclusion of Grant's Doctor adds a fun twist to the series, highlighting a once-overlooked gem from the Wilderness Years.
Russell T Davies addresses a previously decanonized Wilderness Years Doctor's return to the series' main continuity following a surprising Doctor Who season 14 cameo. Warning: spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 6, "Rogue."
"Rogue" shows a hologram of an unexpected addition to Doctor Who's regeneration line. This mystery figure is most likely a Doctor from before William Hartnell's First Doctor. They could also be a parallel universe Doctor, a consequence of the Toymaker's meddling, or a bi-generation Doctor.
By process of elimination, Doctor Who's new canon Doctor can only fit into the existing timeline at one or two points in the character's line of regenerations. Ncuti Gatwa is the Fifteenth official Doctor actor in Doctor Who history, but the franchise's winding canon also accepts John Hurt's War Doctor as an additional regeneration between Eight and Nine, as well as Jo Martin's Fugitive Doctor from the blank period before William Hartnell's First Doctor. Warning: spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 6, "Rogue."
Doctor Who season 14 introduces a mysterious new Doctor seen among holograms of past regenerations. The new Doctor, resembling Richard E. Grant, may be the Shalka Doctor. The Fifteenth Doctor's lack of reaction to the mysterious hologram raises questions about their awareness of this new regeneration.
Doctor Who lives up to its title as season 14 sneakily introduces a mystery face into the Doctor's regeneration line, but this newcomer may actually be a ghost from the franchise's past. Doctor Who periodically likes to remind audiences of old regenerations, whether via the scribbled drawings of John Smith in "Human Nature," or when the Atraxi examined its records on Earth before promptly running away in "The Eleventh Hour." The trope resurfaces in Doctor Who season 14, episode 6, "Rogue," as Rogue's ship scans the Doctor and conjures up a series of holograms depicting past regenerations.

Warning: this Doctor Who review contains spoilers.
When teasing “Dot and Bubble”, Russell T Davies described the episode to Doctor Who Magazine as a “step into Black Mirror territory”. It certainly wears that inspiration on its sleeve, down to the specific instalment of Black Mirror it seems to be aping, “Nosedive”. The arch, vaguely Stepfordian tone, the broad swipe at social media, and the pastel tones of the production design are all very evocative of that episode of Charlie Brooker’s dark anthology show.
But this story of a far-future gated community where vapid rich kids are being systematically eaten alive by horrifying giant slugs also owes a tonal debt to Black Mirror. While for the most part a pitch-dark comedy, and generally pretty effective on that front, “Dot and Bubble” also shares Black Mirror’s self-consciously bleak world view, which – like the aforementioned vapid rich kids – takes some digesting.

Ghosts producer Monumental Television is behind the adaptation of the 2021 novel. It follows retired archaeologist Judith Potts (Bond), who lives alone in a faded mansion in the peaceful town of Marlow, filling her time by setting crosswords for the local paper. During one of her regular wild swims in the Thames, Judith hears a gunshot coming from a neighbor’s garden and believes a brutal murder has taken place. When the police are reluctant to believe her story, Judith finds herself forming an unlikely friendship with local dog-walker and empty-nester Suzie (Martin) and unfulfilled...

The legacy of Chris Chibnall’s reign as Doctor Who showrunner is a controversial one, and even now it’s unclear how history will judge it. Chibnall brought in a lot of important and necessary steps in the show’s evolution, including the first woman Doctor, the first non-white Doctor, the first non-white writer on the show, and a real attempt to bring back the educational aspect of the series for the first time in decades.

Above the North Atlantic Ocean, a terrorist group hijack Oceanic Flight 420. The countdown begins as the Nsa try finding a way to combat the situation before the plane’s fuel runs out. Director Hawkins (Alec Baldwin) plans to shoot down the plane before it does catastrophic damage on the ground, although Deputy Toyin (Jo Martin) wishes to put faith in their asset; an Interpol agent working undercover amongst the hijackers.
A key moment has Hawkins declare “This is not the beginning of some heroic story”, before calmly explaining his rationalisation of sacrificing a plane of innocent civilians to save other lives. The cancelation of a long-running Doctor Who series on expanded media makes a popular Disney+ spinoff idea an increasingly likely possibility. Since Doctor Who's global streaming deal with the Walt Disney Corporation was announced, fans have eagerly anticipated a raft of spinoffs to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Russell T Davies has repeatedly stated his own vision for Doctor Who in a post-mcu world, seeing the show's potential as a big sci-fi franchise comprising the parent show and multiple spinoffs. There is a persistent rumor that a Unit spinoff led by Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) will follow Ncuti Gatwa's first Doctor Who season and now another beloved character could also get their own show.

It’s succession season at the UK’s National Theatre with Rufus Norris, the institution’s Artistic Director, announcing that he will step down in 2025 after a decade in the post.
“It’s good to keep leadership evolving,” Norris noted during a press conference at the National’s base on the south side of the River Thames, in the shadow of Waterloo Bridge.
The National’s board will determine Norris’s successor. They will cast a net far and wide and there’s an eagerness to end the white male hold on the Nt’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Norris has been getting on with the business of running the country’s flagship theatre company.

Directed by Timo Vuorensola and starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alec Baldwin, “97 Minutes” raises a difficult moral dilemma: is it worth sacrificing an entire plane of innocent people to save the lives of thousands? The movie takes us on an entertaining ride of action, suspense, and tension aboard a 767.
Original? Not really, but it’s a decent watch for a lazy afternoon and easily forgettable the next day.
Storyline
A hijacked 767 will crash in just 97 minutes when it runs out of fuel. Against the strong will of Toyin, the Nsa’s deputy, Director Hawkins prepares to shoot down the plane before it causes catastrophic damage on the ground, leaving the fate of the innocent passengers in the hands of Tyler, one of the supposed hijackers on board, who is an undercover Interpol agent. . or is he?

Chris Chibnall has left a lasting legacy on Doctor Who that goes far beyond onscreen elements like the controversial Timeless Child storyline. The revelations around the Doctor's non-Time Lord origins dominated much of the discussion around the era of the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), and that noise distracted from the hugely positive strides Chris Chibnall's era made as a whole. Chris Chibnall's casting of the first female Doctor was a strong statement of intent from the showrunner, who made increasing diversity in front and behind the camera a priority on Doctor Who.
By bringing in new writers and directors from a diverse range of backgrounds, the Chris Chibnall era saw Doctor Who explore events from beyond the UK schools history syllabus. When it was created in the early 1960s, Doctor Who had a duty to educate and entertain its viewers, in line with their history homework. Chris Chibnall's era interrogated this idea,...

"What we do today... is the beginning of their end." 101 Films has revealed a trailer for 97 Minutes, yet another airplane hijacking thriller coming up (also see: Idris Elba in Hijack). The BBC first announced it was making six-part comedy thriller Black Ops back in June 2021 – and boy is it worth the wait.
Created by Famalam’s BAFTA-winning duo of Gbemisola Ikumelo and Akemnji Ndifornyen, it follows two inexperienced Community Support Officers – Ikumelo plays Dom alongside The Wheel of Time’s Hammed Animashaun as Kay – who get recruited into a perilous undercover Met Police operation infiltrating a London drug gang.
There are so many elements that combine to make Black Ops a joyous must-watch:
1. You’ll Instantly Love The Characters
The sibling-like partnership between Dom and Kay makes us feel immediately at ease in their world. So when the enigmatic Di Clinton Blair covertly approaches them to join his “off the books” undercover operation in episode one, we’re invested in their story from the off.
Dom is smart, quick-thinking but also ultimately immature and quite spoiled – she lives at home...

Exclusive: Cameras have started rolling on the psychological horror pic I’ll Play Mother from The Number 44, the UK-based production house co-founded by filmmaker Ben Charles Edwards (A Bird Flew In) alongside Phil McKenzie (Quant) and Kirsty Bell (A Bird Flew In).
The film stars Susanne Wuest (Goodnight Mummy), Jo Martin, and Shubham Saraf (A Suitable Boy), with Brad Watson (The Siege) directing from a screenplay by Libby Adam.

The series has seen 14 iterations of the good doctor, and there's always a reason why every Doctor Who quit. Among some of the longstanding Doctors on the series, there have been a few one-offs, such as John Hurt's War Doctor or Jo Martin's Fugitive Doctor, but longstanding ones like David Tennant or Tom Baker are the most beloved. Each Doctor brought their own distinct personality to the franchise, but the premise of the series always remained the same: a man (or woman) from the planet Gallifrey with a time machine takes human companions on adventures across time and space.
Why every Doctor Who quit (especially after three seasons) comes down to a variety of reasons for each respective actor. Everything from on-set drama to health issues have contributed to different Doctors leaving the series. However, it wasn't always the intention to have different actors take on the role,...

The Timeless Child arc's resolution was never going to satisfy everyone, but the Doctor Who books bridging the gap between 1989 and the show's revival in 2005 prove why it failed. Originally focusing on Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor, the Doctor Who: The New Adventures novels were incredibly influential on the 21st century incarnation of the show, with Doctor Who season 3's "Human Nature/The Family of Blood" even adapted from the book of the same name. When Paul McGann took over from Sylvester McCoy for the 1996 TV Movie, the BBC swiped the license back from Virgin and began publishing Eighth Doctor adventures under its official branding.
While not quite as influential as the Seventh Doctor and Ace Doctor Who: The New Adventures books, there were still parallels between the Eighth Doctor novels and what would eventually happen onscreen when Doctor Who returned in 2005. Both ranges sought to expand the mythology...
