Born and raised in Las Vegas, Monty moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking. A recipient of an academic scholarship, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola Marymount University's School of Film and Television. At 24, Monty made his filmmaking debut with Self-Medicated, a feature he wrote, directed, co-produced, and starred in. The film garnered critical acclaim on the festival circuit, winning 39 awards, and was released theatrically in the U.S. by ThinkFilm, with its video rights later acquired by Lionsgate.
Monty went on to found Thought Division, a production company specializing in television commercials and web content for major corporations. He also founded, managed, and sold the Las Vegas Film Festival. Additionally, Monty is the founder of FilmFreeway, the leading online platform connecting filmmakers with film festivals, now used by over 3 million filmmakers. FilmFreeway was acquired by Backstage and the private equity firm TA Associates.
