The film was released in 1999 and received polarizing reactions from critics and fans alike. However, as time has passed the film has failed to improve its reputation among the fan base.

While the Star Wars saga has expanded into a vast universe over the years, including TV series, animation, novels, and comic books, certain films have failed to capture the hearts of fans as effectively as others. Despite efforts such as re-releases and anniversary celebrations, one film, in particular, stands out for its ongoing struggle to win over the fandom, The Phantom Menace.

The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte promises plenty of martial-arts-inspired action and a climactic lightsaber battle. The makers of the show recently mentioned that the team aimed to compete with Darth Maul’s legendary battle with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and called it the best lightsaber battle in Star Wars history.
But is it? The franchise has seen numerous lightsaber battles across media, with fan getting their first taste of the trope in Star Wars: A New Hope. While the original trilogy is still considered to be the best of the films released to date, the lightsaber battles seem to have improved since then. The prequel trilogy’s climactic showdown between Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker definitely has a higher ground in the category.

I think /Film's Jacob Hall put it best in our list of the greatest "Star Wars" movie moments when he described George Lucas' prequel trilogy as "a collection of brilliant ideas, filmed in the most baffling, alien way possible." That extends to Anakin Skywalker's journey from a wide-eyed wunderkind enslaved on Tatooine with his mother to a genocidal tyrant who murders kids and owes fealty to a cackling dictator over the course of three movies. As conceptually logical and narratively sound as the rise of Darth Vader is on paper, it's perplexing enough in motion to merit me writing an article explaining Anakin's fall to the dark side for all those folks who watched the films and yet still came away scratching their heads.
In contrast, you get a far more satisfying depiction of Anakin and his transformation in "The Clone Wars," the animated show following Anakin (Matt Lanter...

If the Star Wars franchise is considered one of the greatest film series of all time in Hollywood, the credit goes to its creative mastermind George Lucas. The visionary director pioneered a sci-fi revolution with the epic space saga that spanned multiple decades to become a cult classic that will continue to remain evergreen for years to come.

While the franchise has seen many unforgettable films, there have been some prequels and sequels that have been preferred over others. But one particular film in the series which was specifically made for the holidays, was considered by Lucas himself as the franchise’s worst effort and one that he would want to erase from everyone’s memory including his own.

Ewan McGregor is a Scottish actor who is better known to the world by the character he plays in the world-famous Star Wars franchise. Portraying the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi since 1999 in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, McGregor has been a much-loved character.
With the actor experiencing stardom, he didn’t think much of it at that time. Working alongside Hayden Christensen (who portrayed the role of Anakin Skywalker), the two became quite good friends. So good that when McGregor got the opportunity to work with Christensen again, he broke down in tears!

When the Star Wars prequels first came out, Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker was torn apart by critics and fans alike. Critics labeled his acting as wooden, lacking emotion, and overly melodramatic. Meanwhile, fans of the original trilogy deemed him unconvincing as the man was destined to become the menacing Darth Vader, the ultimate big bad of Star Wars. And given that the prequels were, for many years, the final movies in the Star Wars saga, fans weren’t willing to forgive and forget. For years, Christensen bore the brunt of the hate and even took a step back from acting. But

One of the most famous scenes in the Star Wars film saga almost didn’t happen at all. Although the movie was always going to end with Anakin Skywalker losing a few limbs, the stunt team behind Prequel Trilogy closer originally choreographed a different climax for Revenge of the Sith‘s final duel between brothers. In fact, an earlier version of the fight on Mustafar didn’t have Obi-Wan getting the high ground on Anakin at all; there was no cocky last leap from young Skywalker to seal his fate.
As Revenge of the Sith stunt coordinator Nick Gillard explained to Empire magazine, “Originally, they both land on the side of the lava flow and immediately start fighting. Anakin disarms Obi and grabs him by the throat. He’s about to chop his head off, but Obi sucks the lightsaber into his hand in a defensive move to try and block it,...

"Oh, they've encased him in carbonite. He should be quite well protected, if he survived the freezing process, that is," quips C-3Po after Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is frozen alive in a slab of carbonite in "The Empire Strikes Back." It is a memorable scene, as it is preceded by Leia's (Carrie Fisher) declaration of love for Han, to which he replies with the characteristically suave, brilliantly ad-libbed "I know." The frozen Han is eventually handed over to Jabba the Hutt, whose lair is later infiltrated by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and gang to rescue their friend from his frozen state in "Return of the Jedi."
This is not the only instance of a person being carbon-frozen in the "Star Wars" universe. Although the process was widely used to encase and preserve transport materials (such as gaseous substances), it was often utilized to transfer sentient beings. Even Anakin Skywalker...

The recent events in the My Hero Academia manga have revealed that the series is on the verge of its end. The two main characters Izuku Midoriya and Shigaraki Tomura are involved in a battle that looks like the conclusion of the series. Kohei Horikoshi’s masterpiece has truly entertained anime and manga fans for years.

As the series is reaching its conclusion, there are still some mysteries that are yet to be solved in the series. One of the most important ones among them is Izuku Midoriya’s father. The series has spanned over 400 chapters but Izuku’s father has still not been revealed making him probably the biggest mystery of the series.
Multiple theories talk about Izuku’s father, but almost all of them majorly point to All for One, the antagonist of the series. Although he died recently in the manga, it doesn’t...

Mutability is an integral part of life, more so in the world of Star Wars, where the thin line between morality and reality blurs frequently. To emphasize this aspect, the ninth episode of the final season of Bad Batch brings back one of the most intriguing force users into the narrative, whose shifting allegiance alone can make for a great character study. Previously, in order to learn about Omega’s M-count uniqueness, which has made her a target of Imperial forces, the Bad Batch sought Phee Genoa’s help, who directed the group to the infamous bounty hunter Fennec Shand. Despite having some history with Fennec, the team agrees to take her help, and accordingly, Hunter and Wrecker carry out a bounty hunting job along with her in exchange for the information.

Reviews for The Phantom Menace were, it’s fair to say, mixed. Looking back on it, that’s understandable. It’s a mixed film. After a lot of excitement and hype for the return of the game-changing franchise, some anti-climax was inevitable. 133 minutes and countless midi-chlorians later, a sense of disappointment gave way to rage for some.
Attack of the Clones had an improved, if not stellar, critical reception and Revenge of the Sith continued this trend to be recognized as the best of the three. That said, despite the upward trajectory there was a sense that these films would never recover from their initial mauling and that their lasting legacy would be their failure to recapture the magic of the Original Trilogy in a sustained way.

The Disney Store is kicking off Spring Break with new X-Men and Star Wars merchandise!
The Disney Store just put up two lightsabers, one far more affordable than the other! Anakin Skywalker’s Legacy lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith is $159.99, while the light-up water bottle version is only $39.99.
The Legacy lightsaber appears to be the same as the one you can pick up in Galaxy’s Edge. The elegant weapon does not include a blade but does come with a case and three AA batteries.
Oddly, this hilt is going for almost $300 on reseller sites. I’m not sure why. However, scalpers won’t be able to buy all of these from the Disney Store since they’re limited to one per customer. Now, if only they’d rerelease the limited edition Cal Kestis hilt.

"Star Wars" is filled with memorable side characters, weird little guys who populate the galaxy and make it feel like a massive, lived-in place, where everyone has a story to tell.
Take the fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka. He was first introduced in "The Clone Wars," and named after "Godzilla" director Ishiro Honda and actor Seiji Onaka. Hondo was something the movies had alluded to but not actually shown — a pirate scoundrel. Sure, we'd seen parts of that lifestyle, like with Lando and Boba Fett, but the latter had barely any lines or anything to do and the former didn't do much piracy. Hondo, on the other hand, was introduced as a resourceful scum, a guy willing to work with anyone on any side as long as there was profit. Hayden Christensen landed the most in-demand role in Hollywood when he was cast as Anakin Skywalker in 2002′s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. We have since learned that he beat out some serious A-listers for the role!
The Star Wars prequel movies tracked Anakin’s evolution from a talented young child through his descent into the Dark Side of the Force. It ended with him ultimately becoming Darth Vader, the villainous character fans of the franchise were already familiar with from creator George Lucas‘ first trio of movies.
1999′s Episode I – The Phantom Menace introduced Anakin as a child played by Jake Lloyd. However, a 10-year time lapse meant that the role had to be recast for the sequel.
Before Hayden booked the part, 300 actors reportedly auditioned. In fact, the competition was so star-studded that he recently admitted that he never thought he’d be cast.

Jake Lloyd, the child actor who famously brought a young Darth Vader to life in Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace, is recovering after suffering what his mother described as “a full-blown psychotic break.”
It’s been 25 years since Jake played Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 Star Wars movie. He was replaced by Hayden Christensen after the character aged up between the first and second movies.
In the years since landing the breakout role, Jake has largely stayed out of the spotlight and left acting behind.
In a recent interview, his mom Lisa opened up about how he was doing, his relationship with Star Wars and his personal struggles.

Lisa told Scripps News that he is “doing much better than [she] expected” as he receives treatment at an inpatient mental health rehabilitation center. He’s been in the treatment center for about 10 months and has eight to go.

Jake Lloyd, the actor known for portraying young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, has been in a mental health facility for almost a year, his mother shared this week.
“Jake started having some trouble in high school,” Lisa Lloyd told Scripps News. “He started talking about ‘realities.’ He didn’t know if he was in this reality or a different reality. I didn’t really know exactly what to say to that.”
Lisa said Jake is now 10 months into an 18-month stay at a mental health rehabilitation facility following what she described as a full-blown psychotic break in March 2023, when he turned his car off in the middle of a three-lane road.
Lisa said doctors initially suggested her son could have bipolar disorder but that treatment never seemed to work, and Jake often refused to take medication. He was eventually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Jake was only 8 years old when George Lucas cast him as a young Anakin in “The Phantom Menace,” but he did not stick with acting in the years that followed. Jake’s mother, Lisa, denies that her son’s decision to quit the profession had anything to do with “The Phantom Menace” being the subject of intense backlash from “Star Wars” fans at the time.

Rex has even managed to catch one of the mysterious Clone sleeper agents created by the Empire alive. Unable to get any information out of him, however, Rex and his crew have no idea there's a homing beacon inside the Clone, leading the Empire right to them.

Jake Lloyd played Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace and left the limelight shortly after the film’s release.
In a new interview, Lloyd’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, updated the public on her son and dispelled rumors that had plagued the Star Wars community for many years.
Lisa talked to Scripps News and said her son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008 after struggling and talking about living in different realities, seeing people with “black eyes,” and mentioning having conversations with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
On top of that, Jake seemed to have a neurological condition called anosognosia, which causes a patient to be in denial about their symptoms.
“He didn’t think he needed to take medication because he wasn’t sick,” Lisa said. “He didn’t think he needed to go to the therapist because there’s nothing wrong with him.

George Lucas handpicked Jake Lloyd to play young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace out of thousands of kids. However, time hasn’t been kind to Lloyd, as the actor has faced a variety of mental and legal issues, which some believed were exacerbated by the negative reaction to The Phantom Menace.

Jake Lloyd’s mother, Lisa, recently spoke with Scripps News to provide an update on her son and to set the record straight on what he really thinks of Star Wars.
She explained that Jake first started having issues in high school when he began talking about “realities” and not knowing whether he was in this reality or a different one. One doctor suggested that he might have bipolar disorder, but the medications didn’t work and the delusions got worse.

Let me speak plainly: I'm not going to try and convince you the "Star Wars" prequels are great, actually. They're fascinating in their political prescience -- although, for as much as "Star Wars" has always been a fierce rebuke of fascism and imperialism, George Lucas had admitted the parallels between Palpatine's rise to power and the War on Terror were not intentional -- and it's hard not to (somewhat begrudgingly) admire Lucas for making the films he wanted to see. That's especially true when it comes to "Episode I -- The Phantom Menace," a profoundly flawed movie that represents the purest version of what the storyteller had in mind with these films, for better and for worse.

Ewan McGregor is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at present. He is, of course, best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel series and as the star of his own television show by Disney. Aside from being an actor, McGregor is also a father of five, and he has been open about his adoration of them. Combine his love for Star Wars and his children; it is the perfect recipe to prank them, something that his daughter, Clara McGregor, can attest to.
Ewan McGregor has starred in several notable films throughout his career. However, he has become synonymous with the Star Wars films, and his love for the space opera set “in a galaxy far away” knows no bounds.

Ewan McGregor returned as the Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in his titular series, almost 17 years after his last appearance in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The series did a decent job of entertaining the Star Wars fandom, despite the criticisms for its shoddy writing at places. However, Disney has quietly confirmed that McGregor’s show is not getting another season.
Ewan McGregor reprised his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi took place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and the titular character is in hiding on the planet Tatooine, looking after Luke. He is tasked with the mission of rescuing Princess Leia from the Galactic Empire, which leads to a confrontation with his former apprentice.

It’s unfortunate, but most streaming shows (and movies for that matter) never get a physical release, but thankfully, Disney has been releasing some of their most popular Marvel and Star Wars shows on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. Following in the footsteps of Loki season 1, WandaVision, and the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, Disney announced today that they will be releasing collector’s editions of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Andor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. "Star Wars" fans have a bit of a good news/bad news situation to contend with today. The good news? It was confirmed that 2022's "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series is finally getting a 4K and Blu-ray release nearly two years after it finished its run on Disney+. Unfortunately, that very same physical media release has also quietly confirmed that the show is not getting a second season and is instead going to remain a limited series. That's not good news for those who wished to see Ewan McGregor suit up one more time as the beloved Jedi.
The upcoming Blu-ray release was announced alongside similar releases for Marvel's "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" and "Moon Knight," as well as the "Star Wars" series "Andor." All three of those shows were billed as "the complete first season" by Disney. "Obi-Wan Kenobi," on the other hand, will be released as "the complete series.

This post contains spoilers for "Dune: Part Two."
"It doesn't matter a damned bit how pure and good the hero is. By just being he creates a power structure and so it's like a magnet: the iron filings, the corruptible, come in and things are done in the name of the leader."
So said "Dune" author Frank Herbert in a 1984 interview with the L.A. Reader, neatly summarizing the cautionary tale at the heart of his epic sci-fi trilogy. In Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet in Denis Villeneuve's recent two-part film adaptation, Herbert wanted to create "a charismatic leader, a messiah you would follow for all of the right reasons. He is loyal to his people, he's honorable, and he's true to his friends." For that charismatic protagonist to then launch a galactic holy war, knowing that it would cause the deaths of tens of billions of people, was...

George Lucas' "Star Wars" Prequel Trilogy is bursting with provocative ideas. It is, in theory, a startlingly downbeat depiction of a slow-rolling fascist government takeover in which the protagonist shuts out his better angels and turns into a vindictive, genocidal monster. He accidentally kills the mother of his children, and nearly melts in volcanic lava after failing to murder his principled mentor. This is, mind you, a kids film.
That this outcome was a foregone conclusion needn't have diminished the awful power of Anakin Skywalker's horrible choice. And this being "Star Wars," no one was expecting nuance. But were we really expecting "Star Wars" to go there – and by "there," I mean dramatize the savage lengths to which a Sith-indoctrinated Anakin would have to go to completely wipe out the Jedi? Because unless all those cute little padawans went lockstep Hitler Youth, they almost certainly met with an ugly fate.

The Marvels movie was released in November 2023 and didn’t receive a great response from critics and fans alike. It was the third Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie of 2023 after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 were released. The Nia DaCosta directorial stars Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Zawe Ashton, Lashana Lynch, Park Seo-joon, and others.
The superhero film brought together Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and a grown-up Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parrish) after Captain Marvel (2019). Even Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) joins the force to fight against a new space villain, Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). Despite all of this, The Marvels failed to impress the audience. However, what got everyone’s attention was the post-credits scene.
In The Marvels’ post-credit scene, Monica gets pushed into another universe. She meets her mom, Maria Rambeau, at the hospital.
