Life has been a movie for Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe, who found their match in each other back during their freshman year after making it to the play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. However, the road ahead was far from smooth for the two teens, as the This Is Us actors would share an on-and-off bond throughout their college years.
However, the biggest obstacle they faced came up for a pretty crazy reason. Bathe recalled that her mother and grandmother predicted that the Primetime Emmy Winner was up to no good.

Sterling K. Brown doesn’t like drawing attention to himself, especially when it comes to fashion. But since earning his first Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his role in Cord Jefferson’s comedy-drama American Fiction, even more eyes have been on the three-time Emmy-winning TV and film star.
“I’ll be honest with you, it is at times a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to clothes and all the gear,” says Brown, 47, whose awards season obligations pile on by the day. “You can’t just go back and get your same suit every time. You’ve got to come with a fit that’s got a little bit of drip to it.”
Brown’s had good practice, portraying Clifford Ellison in the film based on Percival Everett’s 2001 novel Erasure. The flamboyant plastic surgeon is the brother of main character Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Jeffrey Wright), a writer and professor who,...

“The Hunting Party” is produced by Universal Television. Bailey, who is under an overall deal at the studio, created the series and wrote the pilot. He serves as co-showrunner and executive producer along with Coburn, who has a first-look deal with Utv.

An Academy Award nomination wasn’t on Sterling K. Brown’s bingo card for 2024.
In fact, when he heard the news, albeit a bit delayed, on Jan. 23, his response, he tells THR, was, “Well, I’ll be damned.”
Winning an Oscar, however, was always a dream of the actor’s and part of a long-term goal of one day becoming an Egot. That desire grew out of his winning three Primetime Emmy Awards, first in 2016 for outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or movie for his portrayal of Christopher Darden in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, again in 2017 for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his role as Randall Pearson in This Is Us, and, most recently, in 2021 for outstanding narrator for Lincoln: Divided We Stand.

Sterling K. Brown is no stranger when it comes to great material. The three-time Emmy winner starred for six seasons on “This Is Us” and has appeared in acclaimed films like “Black Panther” and “Waves” during the last five years alone. But reading the script for “American Fiction” while traveling to Europe for a family vacation with his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, just hit differently, Brown tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview.
“I was reading the script. And I was like, ‘Ryan, this was really f–king good.’ And she was like, ‘Really?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah. It’s got Black people in it, and we are doing stuff that people don’t normally see Black people do – like just living life. Ryan Michelle Bathé has been cast as the wife of Terry Crew’s cop character in CBS’ comedy pilot based on the “JumpStart” comic strip, a rep for the actress told TheWrap on Wednesday.
Her character, Marcy, is described as “a hard-working nurse who is naturally maternal and wise beyond her years. She and Joe share a close bond and are supportive of one another even when they don’t agree. The two have a good life in their middle-class Philly neighborhood with their two teen kids — meeting all challenges, and enjoying their share of goofy times as well.”
The logline for the show: “Joe and Marcy are young, hip, urban parents with old school values who are willing to sacrifice for their kids and have some laughs while doing it!”

Bette Midler is finally revealing why “The First Wives Club” didn’t get a second shot.
The classic 1996 film starred Midler, Diane Keaton, and Goldie Hawn as a trio of jilted women who seek revenge on their respective former spouses. Midler’s “Hocus Pocus 2” co-star Sarah Jessica Parker played the mistress Midler’s husband (Dan Hedaya) was cheating with in the film.
Stockard Channing, Maggie Smith, Rob Reiner, Marcia Gay Harden, Victor Garberm Timothy Olyphant, J.K. Simmons, Jon Stewart, and Gloria Steinem also starred. Based on the 1992 novel by Olivia Goldsmith, the Hugh Wilson-directed comedy grossed 180 million at the global box office. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Music.
Now, over 25 years later, Midler opened up about why the studio did not greenlight a sequel.
“I used to lobby for ‘First Wives Club 2,’ but there were political reasons they didn’t want to do that again.

Even with the 2022 Winter Olympics in the bag, NBC continues to dominate primetime.
Primetime returned to regularly scheduled programming on Monday, with the usual suspects back atop the ranks. The first post-Olympics night saw NBC win the highest demo rating with America’s Got Talent: Extreme. In early numbers, AGT: Extreme earned a 0.7 demo rating and 4.33 million viewers. The two hour episode went head-to-head with the latest episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, which was the second-highest rated television program on Monday and steady from the previous week.
Nabbing the night’s largest audience was 9-1-1: Lone Star which was slightly down from the previous installment. The 8 p.m. hour also saw new episodes of The Neighborhood on CBS and All American on The CW.
The following hour saw Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, stable in both demo rating and viewership, take the top spot.

Talk about a fashionable entrance. NBC’s The Endgame series premiere begins with criminal mastermind Elena Federova (played by Gotham‘s Morena Baccarin) being detained in a giant box, out of which she exits wearing a fabulous blue gown.
The American authorities have brought Elena in — or kidnapped her, as she calls it — on 105 federal charges stemming from her mercenary operations, dubbed Snow White. At the same time, a bank is robbed, during which a note is found: “Bow to the queen.” Elena hands the attorney general a piece of paper, instructing him to check his pocket, which contains another note: “I’m the queen.

Say this for “The Endgame”: It knows what it has in Morena Bacarrin, an actor so immediately telegenic that making sure she has everyone’s attention is as simple as her walking into a room. As notorious mastermind Elena Federova, Baccarin commands her every scene in NBC’s newest drama with a sly grin and slightly raised eyebrow that usually spells disaster for those trying to test her. It’s a good thing, too, since most of her screen time in the first two episodes is limited to prowling a concrete holding cell — and because the rest of “The Endgame” gets fuzzier the further it gets from Elena as the planet everyone else orbits.

Night Court is officially in session.
NBC has handed the follow-up to the classic legal sitcom a series order.
Deadline revealed that the multi-camera comedy, which comes from Outmatched and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-ep Dan Rubin and The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch, was in the works in December. It scored a pilot order in May and will now make it to screens.
Based on the original series created by Reinhold Weege, the multi-camera Night Court centers on unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone (Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone, who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding, with Larroquette reprising his role.

Writer-producer Jake Coburn has signed a first-look deal with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, to develop and produce projects for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. The pact expands Coburn’s relationship with the studio behind The Endgame, the heist drama co-created and executive produced by Coburn which received a series order at NBC earlier this week.
“Jake is a dynamic storyteller with a keen knack for big ideas,” said Vivian Cannon, EVP, Drama Development, Universal Television. “We had so much fun working with Jake on The Endgame, we couldn’t wait to broaden our partnership with him. Everyone at Utv is looking forward to lots more success with him in the future!”

It may be premiere week but NBC is already looking ahead to midseason.
The network has picked up The Endgame to series, with Morena Baccarin and Ryan Michelle Bathe set as the leads.
As for what the series is about, here's the logline:
A pulse-pounding, high-stakes thriller about Elena Federova (Baccarin), a very recently captured international arms dealer and brilliant criminal mastermind who even in captivity orchestrates a number of coordinated bank heists, and Val Turner (Bathe), the principled, relentless and socially outcast FBI agent who will stop at nothing to foil her ambitious plan.
Sounds interesting, right?
The cast also includes Kamal Angelo Bolden, Costa Ronin, Noah Bean, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Mark D. Espinoza.
Nick Wootton is set as the showrunner and will serve as an EP alongside The Fast and the Furious franchise veteran Justin Lin, who directed the pilot.
Additional EPs include Jake Coburn and Julie Plec...
