Station 19 is currently scheduled to end after the current season on ABC. For seven seasons, fans have loved getting to know the dynamic firefighters in this dramatic Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. And many aren’t prepared to say goodbye.
Although ABC won’t pick up the show for another season, some have wondered whether or not another network may step in to save the show.
Keep reading and see what could happen.
Station 19 Showrunners Would Follow The Show To A New Platform
These days, when a network cancels a show, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end. Sometimes, other networks pick up the show and breathe new life into it. Many Station 19 fans desperately hope that will be the case for their favorite drama about the first responders of Seattle.

Oh, the irony: In its seventh season, Station 19 is, as the kids would say, fire. New showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have done a superlative job of turning up the heat on the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. So fans are understandably hot under the collar about the fact that before a single one of their episodes had even aired, ABC turned the hose on the first-responders drama, swinging the axe and displacing it from its regular Thursday timeslot. (Instead of kicking off the night, it now ends it at 10/9c.)

As upset as we may be that Station 19 is being forcibly ended by ABC, we can’t say that new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige aren’t sending the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff out with a spectacular bang. Take Thursday’s harrowing episode, for example. In “My Way,” a fire at the Space Needle nearly — but thankfully only nearly — did in Ben and Sullivan, who then wasted no time proposing to Ross. (Once he promised never to make her “play or feel small,” she said yes.)

“Station 19” is about to hit a huge milestone, but it’s bittersweet.
Just three days into production on Season 7 of the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, as plans for a celebratory 100th episode were beginning to develop, new showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack learned that the show had been canceled. Season 7 would be its last, tasking them with not only ushering the show into a new era, but also to a satisfying ending. They were not prepared.
“I was sitting on the floor in my underwear, writing,” Paige tells Variety. Clack adds, “I was on a panel in front of 100 people getting constant phone calls, trying to play it off. I didn’t hear what the actual news was until after the panel.”

Maybe we should have seen it coming, back in Season 6 of Station 19. But when Vic made up “peer-to-peer assessments” as an excuse to check on alcoholic captain Beckett, who she feared was suicidal, we thought that she was just being her usual caring, compassionate self. And at the time, before Theo revealed himself to be an altogether awful boyfriend, perhaps that was all Hughes was doing.

Station 19 fans are already unhappy with ABC’s decision to cancel the series after its seventh season, with many blaming the untimely end on the network’s acquisition of the canceled 911. Now, it seems, that ABC has only dug the knife in deeper by giving Station 19’s usual primetime 8 p.m. Et time slot to 911.
The fact that Station 19 has been on ABC for 7+ years and they decided to give the show the 10pm slot is so wrong. The show 911 should have gotten that spot but whatever everything is about money even though S19 couldve easily gotten the same views as 911 if ABC advertised …

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Station 19” Season 7 premiere.
The seventh and final season premiere of “Station 19” revealed the fate of beloved firefighter Jack Gibson after he collapsed during the tragic accident at the firefighter’s ball in the previous finale. After performing emergency surgery and saving his life, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) broke the news to newly-promoted captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) that her friend and colleague sustained a life-altering brain injury that will bench him from field work permanently.
The episode, titled “This Woman’s Work,” ended with Jack waking up after surgery and congratulating Andy on her promotion — and asking when he would be back on duty.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Station 19 Season 7 premiere.
Station 19 returned tonight, airing the Season 7 premiere titled “This Woman’s Work,” and as everyone knows, this will be the final season of the firefighter drama created by Stacy McKee.
As sad as that is, let’s look at the positives, shall we? There are nine episodes left after the premiere, and there’s a whole journey ahead of us — and it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Speaking of bumpy, Jack (Grey Damon) is in a really bad way as the episode opens with him in surgery. Andie (Jaine Lee Ortiz) — on her first official day as Captain — of course is there with him when Grey Sloane’s Amelia Shepard (Caterina Scorsone) steps out to share an update, and the news is good overall. Amelia revealed that they had to remove a piece of...

Zoanne shared, “I was on a panel, in front of, like, 100 people. I kept getting calls, and I finally texted and said, “Is this important? Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19 is coming to an end after seven seasons but not before one last big crossover with the mothership series, which may come at the end of the two series’ 10-episode runs, new Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis hinted in an interview with Deadline tied to the upcoming 20th season of the venerable medical drama, which premieres this Thursday, March 14.
She also teased upcoming appearances on Grey’s by the two Station 19 series regular characters who originated on the medical drama, Bailey’s husband Ben (Jason George) and Carina (Stefania Spampinato), indicating that Ben will remain part of the Grey’s Anatomy world.
“I haven’t read their last two episodes yet. I know generally where they’re going,” Marinis said when asked about the upcoming Station 19 crossover. “What I can tell you is that the Bailey and Ben relationship will continue to cross over.

Station 19 will flame out after seven seasons on ABC later this year.
We’ve known this since late last year when the network confirmed that the 10-part season would be the show’s last.
Given the show’s solid ratings and pedigree as a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, one of the biggest TV shows on the air, there was plenty of confusion.
Now, the showrunners are opening up about the changes that had to be made since the cancellation news came as production was getting underway.
Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack were confirmed to take over as showrunners from Krista Vernoff. In a new interview, they told TV Line that their aim upon hearing the news was to inform the cast and crew.

Having come to love Station 19 as much as and sometimes even more than Grey’s Anatomy, the series from which it was spun, I approached TVLine’s interview with new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was delighted, as I was as eager as any overenthusiastic viewer to find out what they have in store. On the other, I was horrified, as the first-responders drama’s Season 7 premiere would mark the beginning of the end: In December, ABC turned the hose on the show, announcing that its next 10 episodes would be its last.

The sirens you hear on social media are the sounds of diehard Station 19 fans sounding the alarm over the cancellation of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff.
The loud signal boosting ahead of what will be the seventh and final season of the firefighter drama comes after ABC on Dec. 8 announced that Station 19 will conclude with 10 episodes this year — the show’s shortest order since it debuted — like Grey’s — as a midseason replacement show when it launched in spring 2018.
With Station 19 and Grey’s serving as the only remaining shows on ABC produced by hitmaker Shonda Rhimes — who is now based exclusively at Netflix — why would the network ax one of its Thursday staples? The answer can be found in the math.

The news, first reported by Deadline, comes after Station 19 averaged 5.2 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic in Season 6, per TVLine. Those numbers are down 15 and 22 percent from Season 5, respectively, but are still good enough to make the firefighter drama tied with The Rookie as ABC’s No. 2 drama series in the demo. In a statement, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich didn’t explain why Station 19 is coming to a close, but he did highlight the contributions of executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers and new showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige. Bonnie Osborne/ABC “For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup, thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,...

Exclusive: The upcoming seventh season will be the last for ABC’s Station 19. The decision, early in production on the season, would allow producers to craft a proper ending for the first responder drama, a spinoff from the network’s flagship Grey’s Anatomy.
Before it signs off, Station 19 will hit the 100th episode mark in Season 7, which was impacted by the double Hollywood strikes. The series has aired 95 episodes to date; its seventh season will consist of 10 episodes.
Boosted by frequent Grey’s Anatomy crossovers, over the last few seasons, Station 19 established itself as ABC’s No.2 drama series behind Grey’s. Over its run, the series also has been lauded for tackling important — and sometimes difficult — topics and recently received a Sentinel Award from Hollywood, Health & Society for its depiction of systemic racism in Season 6.

The late Norman Lear’s life and legacy took center stage tonight at the 2023 Sentinel Awards at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills.
The awards, which celebrate the storytellers behind some of the year’s most impactful stories, heard a statement from Lyn Lear read at the start of the show by Marty Kaplan, founding director of the Norman Lear Center.
“I would have been there tonight if not for the passing of our beloved Norman. He was so proud of the work of The Lear Center and Hollywood Health and Society. And he would not have wanted all of us to mourn. He would want us to celebrate the important shows you are honoring tonight, and most of all… he would want us to laugh.”
The night celebrated Lear’s lasting impact on television and the world, underlining his strong advocacy that television and storytelling makes a difference.

In a sad bit of coincidence, the Hollywood, Health & Society at the USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center honored its 2023 Sentinel Awards winners on Wednesday night, just hours after the passing of its namesake and inspiration, the legendary Norman Lear.
Emmy-winning comedian and writer Larry Wilmore hosted the event and introduced this year’s 11 winners, including writers behind the series “Mrs. Davis,” “Fleishman is in Trouble” and “Tiny Beautiful Things.” But before the awards were handed out, Wilmore took a moment to pay tribute to Lear. And remarks from Lear’s wife, Lyn, were shared with the audience.
“Well you got to say this about Norman – the man knew how to make an exit,” Wilmore joked. “He knew his audience. And wanted us to make sure we were all listening.
“A giant has left us and we’re going to do him proud,” he added. “This evening meant a lot...

When then-Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff added Station 19 to her purview in 2019, she brought in a major change, strengthening the two series’ ties and building an integrated universe highlighted by frequent crossovers, much in the vein of Dick Wolf’s OneChicago.
The new direction was underscored by a scheduling change the following season, swapping medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which had been airing Thursdays at 8 Pm, and first responder series Station 19, which had been occupying the 9 Pm hour.
The tweak made crossovers natural and seamless, with Station 19‘s firefighters and paramedics responding to an accident and then taking patients to Grey Sloan Memorial where the doctors from Grey’s Anatomy would treat them.
That has been the case for the past three and a half seasons, punctuated by frequent crossovers. But today, ABC unveiled its midseason schedule, in which Station 19 is moving from 8 Pm to 10 Pm for...

Staton 19 has been bringing the heat.
The Grey's Anatomy spin-off has made a name for itself and come into its own in the past six seasons, and it has been a positively thrilling ride.
Station 19 has undergone many changes over the year, from introducing and losing characters to shifts in storytelling and even switch-ups with showrunners.
During Station 19 Season 6, the series explored a few storylines, but most had a common theme that focused on mental health.
The theme impacted a handful of the series' characters with mixed results and focus. Still, it produced some strong episodes and even stronger performances by the show's talented cast.
The season also didn't have a shortage of relationship drama across the board with many of its characters.

Fifteen minutes before showtime, the crowd at Austin’s Stateside Theater was negligible. A few Atx TV Festival patrons were sprinkled throughout the theater, but the priority access and badge-holder lines amounted to just a few dozen fans. Soon, four WGA members would take the stage to explain why their guild was striking and detail the issues at stake — issues many consider to be a tipping point for the future of television.
But… it was a sunny Saturday afternoon. The festival, now in its twelfth season, is known for hosting major premieres and popular reunions. Panels break down various TV professions and topics, from discussions with casting directors to best practices for a safe production, but they’re often held in smaller venues or bolstered by high-profile talent. The voice of the WGA was represented loudly in Austin at the Atx TV Festival with various panels informing attendees about the issues of most importance to writers in the stalled negotiations with studios, like AI and staffing minimums—a set minimum number of writers that a series has to employ—as well as why production shutdowns during the ongoing strike are an important part of their fight for a fair deal.
On Saturday, Deadline spoke with WGA negotiating committee member Greg Iwinski following his discussion of the writers strike alongside Julie Plec and Zoanne Clack on a panel hosted at Stateside at the Paramount. Iwinski has been a writer on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

It's been more than a month now since the thousands-strong membership of the Writers Guild of America has taken to the streets in support of fair pay and treatment for TV and film writers. The list of negotiation points the group is fighting for includes better streaming residuals, an end to financially unsustainable mini-rooms, and concrete limitations on the usage of artificial intelligence tools in scriptwriting.
It's that final point that has perhaps made the most headlines during the course of the ongoing strike, as the WGA seems to be one of the first major unions in America attempting to curb the rising A.I. takeover that seems to be a threat to real human jobs.

Zoanne Clack, Greg Iwinski and Julie Plec sat down with their fellow writer Beau Willimon for an Atx Television Festival panel to discuss this year’s writers strike and how it’s different than previous ones.
“Back then, we were nervous about what was ahead,” said Plec, who created Vampire Diaries and its spinoffs The Originals and Legacies. “We were concerned about what we saw coming down the pipeline. There was an intangibility to that concern [that] turned out to be quite prescient and, ultimately, catastrophically accurate.”
This time around, Plec explained writers are striking because they’re upset and then took a moment to point out that she has reaped the benefits of a successful career, so she’s speaking on behalf of people who helped her get to this point in her career.

The 2023 Atx TV Festival is hosting an unprecedented Writers Strike Conversation in support of the ongoing WGA strike.
The strike, which formally began May 2, has led to the shut down of multiple productions in solidarity with the demonstrations. The Atx TV Festival has pivoted accordingly to announce the scrapping of certain programming with writers and showrunners unable to attend under strike guidelines. However, the festival has added a WGA on Strike! program with select WGA East and West members to address the ongoing concerns.
The Atx TV Festival announced an added conversation with some of TV’s leading writers discussing the current WGA Writers Strike. The panelists will discuss first-hand the issues at stake, the changes they’re fighting for, and why the strike is necessary to safeguard the future of not just writers, but all entertainment unions and creatives, per an official press release.

For many members of the Writers Guild of America, this strike has become a family affair, and seven writers who are members of the group “WGA Moms” have opened up to TheWrap in an exclusive panel to discuss the unique challenges of raising kids while on the picket lines.
Liz Benjamin, co-executive producer on “Dead to Me,” helped organize a “family day” on the picket lines in front of Netflix’s production offices on Monday. She said it was in part to allow striking writer parents to network with each other but also to show to the public the reality of what most writers’ actual lives are like.
“I started in this business pregnant,” Benjamin said. “My very first staff job, I found out I was pregnant and I waited five...
