Saw” actor Tobin Bell will star in the independent comedy “Mouth to Mouth,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The project will be produced by Dean C. Jones, Starr Jones, and David Shoenfeld under their Atlantic & Pacific Studios banner. The screenplay, written by Spyder Dobrofsky, centers on a scrawny nerd from the Midwest who accidentally lands the head lifeguard job at the hottest country club in Los Angeles even though he doesn’t know how to swim.

‘Inspector French’: ‘Agatha Raisin’ Producer Free@Last TV Adapting Classic Crime Novels With ‘Cold Courage’ Writer Brendan Foley
Exclusive: Agatha Raisin producer Free@Last TV is developing a TV detective drama based on Freeman Wills Crofts’ classic Inspector French novels with Cold Courage writer Brendan Foley.

Wills Crofts, a railway engineer turned author, was a peer of Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler and was thought to be highly regarded by these writers.

Set in 1920s Ireland, Scotland and England, Inspector French is a dogged world-class detective banished from Scotland Yard to post-partition Northern Ireland where he battles to introduce modern policing techniques to a reluctant force.

Books include Inspector French’s Greatest Case, Inspector French and the Cheyne Mystery and Inspector French and the Starvel Tragedy.

Foley, who recently wrote John Simm-fronted Finnish political drama Cold Courage for Viaplay and Lionsgate, initially tracked down the rights to Crofts’ books at the Society of Authors before penning a script.

Written and executive produced by Royce and directed by Pam Fryman, Super Simple Love Story is a story told through interviews and vignettes spanning 10 years about how an unlikely couple becomes an unlikely family.

‘Agatha Raisin’ Returns For Third Season As Svod Service Acorn TV Marks First Original Renewal

British detective Agatha Raisin is returning to Acorn TV after the streaming service ordered a third season of the drama. This marks the first renewal of one of Acorn TV’s originals.

Ashley Jensen stars in the drama, which will air as three feature-length episodes and a winter special. Based on Mc Beaton’s novels, the series follows a London PR whizz turned amateur sleuth, who becomes entangled in mischief, mayhem, and murder when she opts for early retirement in a small village in the Cotswolds.

Free@Last TV’s Barry Ryan and David Walton will continue to produce the series with Catherine Mackin from Acorn Media Enterprises, the company’s UK-based development division, and Michele Buck from Company Pictures as executive producers. All3Media International distributes in territories where Acorn does not have rights including UK and Australia. The third season will go into production in March.

Jordan Peele, Rosamund Pike, Steven Soderbergh Projects Announced for 2019 Sundance Indie Episodic, Shorts Slate
The 2019 Sundance Film Festival has announced its Indie Episodic, Shorts and Special Events slate, which will include series executive produced by people like Jordan Peele and Steven Soderbergh, as well as episodic content starring Rosamund Pike.

The Untitled Amy Berg Documentary, directed and produced by Berg, will also be heading to the festival, as will Kyra Sedgwick’s “Girls Weekend,” starring Amy Landecker and Ali Liebegott.

Overall, 12 episodic works, 73 short films from 33 countries and four special events have joined the festival slate that was first announced last week. Of the projects announced on Monday, 53 percent were directed or created by one or more women, 51 percent were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 26 percent were created or directed by one or more people who identify as Lgbtqia.

The second year of the Indie Episodic section at Sundance Film Festival brings world premieres of the Nick Hornby marriage therapy comedy State Of The Union directed by Stephen Frears and starring Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd, and Kyra Sedgwick’s Girls Weekend, about a queer daughter who returns for a family gathering in Las Vegas.

Festival programmers have lined up 12 Episodic works, alongside four special events, among them Gregg Araki’s half-hour Starz comedy series Now Apocalypse about the misadventures of four friends in Los Angeles. Steven Soderbergh is among the executive producers.

(Nasdaq: Rlje), has partnered with Free@Last TV to develop the first ever scripted biopic of legendary comic Benny Hill, who despite immense popularity led a lonely life. The series is in development as 2 x 90 minutes/4 x 45 minutes with Caleb Ranson writing the series. The biopic will follow Benny Hill’s life from the mid-1930s through his tragic death in the 1990s.

Earlier this year, Acorn Media Enterprises with Free@Last TV announced Acorn TV’s first sole commission with the return of Agatha Raisin, Series 2 starring Ashley Jensen, which begins filming this summer.

CBS has renewed drama series “Elementary” and pulled the plug on first-year comedy “9Jkl.” Both shows hail from CBS Television Studios.

“Elementary” is heading into its seventh season.

The end for “9Jkl” had been expected. The multi-camera sitcom based on the life of series star and executive producer Mark Feuerstein. Feuerstein played an actor who moves home to New York after his divorce, living in an apartment sandwiched between his overbearing parents on one side and his brother, sister-in-law and their new baby on the other.

The series also starred David Walton, Elliott Gould, Linda Lavin, Liza Lapira, Matt Murray, and Albert Tsai. Feuerstein executive produces along with his wife Dana Klein, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Dana Honor and Pamela Fryman.

Royal Pains vet Mark Feuerstein starred as Josh Roberts, a recently divorced actor who moved back into the New York apartment sandwiched between his overbearing parents (Ray Donovan‘s Elliott Gould and Alice‘s Linda Lavin) and his brother/sister-in-law (About a Boy‘s David Walton and Super Fun Night‘s Liza Lapira); Matt Murray (Rookie Blue) and Albert Tsai (Dr. Ken) co-starred.

Premiering last October, 9Jkl debuted to 8.3 million viewers and a 1.6 in the 18-49 demo, demonstrating weak retention out of The Big Bang Theory.

Acorn TV revives ‘Agatha Raisin’

In its first series commission, North American streaming service Acorn TV is to co-produce a second season of British comedy-drama Agatha Raisin.

The service’s UK-based development division Acorn Media Enterprises will co-produce the new season with Free@Last TV, which created the show, and Company Pictures. Free@Last’s Barry Ryan and David Walton will continue to produce, with Michele Buck from Company Pictures remaining as executive producer and Guy Hescott as producer.

Acorn Media International will distribute Agatha Raisin in all English-speaking territories and All3media International will distribute across the rest of the world.

New Girl‘s swan song at long last has a premiere date.

Fox on Thursday announced that the seventh and final season will begin airing on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:30/8:30c. The abbreviated eight-episode run will then air uninterrupted for six weeks, leading up to the one-hour series finale on Tuesday, May 15 at 9/8c. (Fwiw, your math isn’t wrong. The network will inevitably air back-to-back episodes at some point before the finale.)
