The MCU has no plans to slow down, it seems. After bringing back Wolverine and God-only-knows how many characters in Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel Studios is busy casting new actors and characters. One of these popular characters, as per rumors is the X-Men, Rogue.
Keke Palmer in Jordan Peele’s Nope (2022)
Last spotted in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the character has quickly become a fan favorite due to her rebellious nature. And so as Marvel plans to bring the mutants into the MCU, it is apparently eyeing the actress, Keke Palmer for the role. As the rumors went viral, several fans exclaimed that they wouldn’t be happy with such casting.

Musician and film-maker’s story about a Belgian-Congolese man who takes his white wife to Drc to meet the family is complex, risky and bold
Congolese-born rapper, musician and film-maker Baloji (né Serge Baloji Tshiani) was a prizewinner at Cannes last year with this feature directing debut: a dynamic, teemingly populated, multistranded and tonally elusive picture which I initially thought would benefit from comparisons with Jordan Peele’s horror classic Get Out. In fact, it’s more complicated than that.
Koffi (Marc Zinga) is a Congolese man living in Belgium and married to a white woman, Alice (Lucie Debay). They are about to have twins and Koffi feels that he cannot put it off any further: whatever his family will think, the couple must journey back to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to let them see Alice and let them get used to the idea. It particularly means propitiating...

Happy birthday, Dev Patel!
The erstwhile Skins actor turned hottest living Oscar nominee is 34 years old today and, as if to commemorate the occasion, Monkey Man just became available on PVOD. The India-set action movie is Patel's feature directorial debut, though he's more than just the guy calling the shots from the director's chair. The multi-hyphenated artist also produced and wrote the revenge flick. Oh, and he stars in it, too, doing most of his stunts, which resulted in a broken hand on the first days of shooting. Overall, it was a challenging project to bring to fruition, made more so when Netflix dropped Monkey Man in response to its political content. Thankfully, Jordan Peele came to the rescue, guaranteeing the film a theatrical release that, if nothing else, confirmed Dev Patel's promise as a bonafide movie star…...

After pulling in $28 million at the worldwide box office this month, director (and star) Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Monkey Man is now available to watch at home.
You can rent Monkey Man for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99!
Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.
Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”
“While Monkey Man pays tribute to all of the action genre’s greats, from the Indonesian action classics to Korean revenge cinema and even a John Wick joke or two, Dev Patel’s cultural spin and unique narrative structure leave behind...

The video game autuer Hideo Kojima has never failed to surprise fans with his work. Too bad several of his ideas didn’t come to fruition. The Metal Gear Solid creator once desired to develop a zombie game, unlike the typical games in the genre we see today. Players would have had to play it with great care, as they wouldn’t have gotten another chance to.
Hideo Kojima is known for his unique approach to cinematic storytelling in his video games, which is a result of his strong passion for literature and film. And he’s also a fortune-teller; he just doesn’t know it.
Only if Hideo Kojima’s Ideas Were Accepted Would Metal Gear Rising Have Been Different
Kojima guided the Metal Gear series from 1987 to 2015.

Dev Patel’s bone-crunching action film, Monkey Man, is swinging onto digital platforms faster than Atefeh Safaei can throw a punch. According to the film’s official Twitter account, Monkey Man comes to digital to rent or buy tomorrow, April 23rd! Despite underperforming at the box office with $28M+, Monkey Man is a hit with critics and fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, Patel’s directorial debut is 88% on the Tomatometer, with an 84% Fresh Audience Score.
Competition is fierce at the box office in 2024, with original films struggling to make a dent. Monkey Man opened alongside The First Omen, one of the horror genre’s most well-reviewed films in recent memory. Still, Monkey Man‘s most formidable opponent is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which reigns supreme with $485M+. The New Empire opened one week ahead of Monkey Man, gobbling up most of the action-oriented box office. With Monkey Man coming to digital,...

Fifteen people were injured when a tram crashed at Universal Studios Hollywood on Saturday night, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department shared on social media that it responded to the theme park just after 9 p.m. for reports of a crash.
“A tram tour was in progress on the Universal Studios Hollywood back lot,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “The tram had just passed the Jurassic Park Cars and was making a turn to head northbound on Avenue M. Due to unknown reasons, while negotiating the turn onto Avenue M, the last car of the tram collided with a metal guardrail on the right side of the roadway causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers from the tram.”

John Wayne Bobbitt, known for the horrific incident in 1993 when his wife severed his genitals, has recently undergone a medical procedure to amputate his toes, more than three decades after the traumatic event.
At the age of 57, Bobbitt shared that the amputation was necessary due to toxic peripheral polyneuropathy. This condition is a result of his time as a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina in the 1980s when the base’s water supply was severely contaminated. The contaminated water has since been linked to various illnesses, such as cancer.
According to the Mayo Clinic, toxic peripheral polyneuropathy often manifests as weakness, numbness, and pain and primarily affects the hands and feet. It can also impact other bodily functions, such as digestion and urination.
Bobbitt expressed his belief that the government concealed the contamination for four decades. “They knew,” he told The Sun. “They were testing the water...

Alex Garland’s dystopian action movie Civil War conquered the domestic box office this weekend with $25.7 million, ahead of expectations and scoring A24’s biggest opening ever.
The $50 million movie about a divided America is a big swing for A24 as it tries to produce bigger movies, marking its most expensive production to date.
There are clearly split feelings about the film. Moviegoers only bestowed it with a B- CinemaScore, while PostTrack exits were mixed. The movie’s audience skewed heavily male, or 73 percent. Imax runs are a boon for the movie and contributed more than 16 percent of the gross.
Civil War follows a wartime photojournalist (Kirsten Dunst) and her colleagues as they make their way across a hostile United States of America that has been torn apart under the authoritarian rule of a three-term president (Nick Offerman). Yet the film shies away from red state/blue state divisions, and...

Dan Stevens’ Legion was one show that was liked by fans in many ways. However, its end was one they weren’t so ready for. Deadpool 3 is turning out to be an action-packed multiversal flick that fans have nothing but anticipation for.
With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman not being the only returning actors, there is an uproar among fans to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the smoothest way possible.
Dan Stevens in Downton Abbey
There are many reunions taking place in the film, including the one staring at us right in the face. None of them, however, compared to the possibility of a reunion of the Xavier family. We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

The post-Second World War era marked a golden age for the American economy, a period that saw unprecedented growth in the country’s financial sectors, resulting in a booming middle class, a near-zero unemployment rate, and an overall improvement in the quality of life. Large-scale industrialization, revised taxation policies, the rise of the televised advertising industry, and the implementation of neo-colonization policies using the power vacuum in global politics as an opportunity were the key reasons behind this economic boom. Privatization of the public sector along with the advent of consumerist culture turned out to be an inevitable by-product of this, which transferred the nation’s mantle of power to the wealthy. The Fallout game series is a conscious, clever critique of the absolute control obtained by ‘the one percent’ whose machinations are puppeteering the real world till date, and the TV series adaptation of the game series doesn’t...

Over the weekend, Universal Pictures released Dev Patel's action flick "Monkey Man" in theaters, while 20th Century Studios unleashed the horror prequel "The First Omen" on audiences. Both were competing against "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" in its second weekend and, frankly, they never stood a chance. But they also weren't necessarily gunning for the top spot as these were more counterprogramming moves from both studios. Be that as it may, both films came in on the lower end of expectations, which shaped the narrative around their performance to something akin to "bad." I'm here to offer the other perspective which is more akin to "good."
"Monkey Man" debuted at number two on the charts with a $10.1 million opening. The film, which serves as Patel's feature directorial debut, had been expected to pull in anywhere between $16 and $25 million on the more optimistic side of things That obviously didn't come to pass.

Donna Langley became the first studio mogul to take the stage at CinemaCon this year in a sign of the general angst facing many Hollywood legacy studios.
Sony film boss Tom Rothman’s comments on stage usually turns heads, but his studio stayed home this year. Last year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav showed up to get to know theater owners, but this year he had scheduling conflicts, so wasn’t part of Warner Bros.’ presentation Tuesday. But like Langley, Paramount chairman Brian Robbins is expected to be part of his studio’s session on Thursday.
Langley has plenty of reason to crow after placing No. 1 in marketshare in 2023 and watching Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer win big at the Oscars.

Larry, a Howard University alum who also goes by Lbj, noted on Instagram that he wanted to play Wheel of Fortune before the legendary longtime host, Pat Sajak, retires later this year.
Larry’s wish came true, and during Wheel of Fortune’s April 9 episode, Larry went head-to-head against his opponents, Louise Henry and Kalesha Knight.
Although Larry, a semi-pro tap dancer from Bowie, Maryland, brought an infectious energy with him on stage, viewers couldn’t help but focus on another attribute of his.
During Larry’s segment, he must have been hiding that it was stifling hot in the studio because he sweated profusely throughout the episode as he made his national television debut.

Season 2 of HBO’s Euphoria ended on a fairly positive note, with the series being HBO’s second most-watched show of all time when it aired in 2022. Watching live on Sunday nights became popular thanks to the countless memes that sprouted from the show’s dramatic plotlines. But now that it’s been two years since Lexi’s play and the fight that ensued, and probably another year until filming for the next season even begins, it’s hard to see a full third season as the right step forward.
This isn’t to say that script delays are entirely Sam Levinson’s fault. The WGA strike lasted for nearly five months thanks to the AMPTP’s refusal to meet the guild’s reasonable terms, and the unexpected death of star Angus Cloud during that time also means that script revisions were likely needed as soon as work was able to begin again.

Dev Patel directs, co-writes and stars in Monkey Man, an ultraviolent revenge thriller which was rescued from Netflix and given a theatrical release by producer Jordan Peele. A blend of John Wick-style violence, Indian mythology and a palpable Slumdog atmosphere, it’s an exciting debut for Patel that delivers several pulse-quickening punches and then rips out your arteries for good measure afterwards.
The script makes good use of an unconventional structure, whereby we meet a character known as “Kid” (Patel) as he attempts to execute a poorly thought-out revenge plan against local corrupt cop Rana (Sikandar Kher), in the fictional Indian city of Yatana (effectively standing in for Mumbai). After the attempt fails, Kid is a wanted man, so he hides...

Dev Patel’s new film Monkey Man has been receiving a positive reception since its premiere at the SXSW 2024. The film follows a young man’s quest for vengeance against corrupt leaders accountable for his mother’s demise and the oppression of the vulnerable.
It has also been doing quite well at the box office following its release last week, leading to discussions of a sequel. However, the 33-year-old actor is approaching the idea of a sequel to his directorial debut with caution.

Although people expected happy box office news following the release of two fresh titles – Dev Patel’s Monkey Man and Disney’s The First Omen, it unfortunately wasn’t the case. Making a surprisingly weak entry, which brought the weekend total to a lower-than-expected scenario, the two movies failed to snatch Sydney Sweeney’s position as box office Queen.
Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate
Celebrating big news as Immaculate, achieved a remarkable milestone, despite low expectations, Sydney Sweeney appears to continue her trend of delivering silent hits, like her previous film, Anyone But You. Saving the box office single-handedly, Sweeney appears to be on her way to topple Dev Patel’s film, as it failed to revive the box-office despite optimistic predictions.

As a movie lover, one of the most wonderful pleasures of this passion is discovering new filmmakers with their own identity, style, and message. There’s almost always something special about a feature film debut from an unknown director, but when it’s from a highly popular actor with an overwhelmingly positive public opinion, the expectations surrounding the movie inevitably change. Dev Patel directs, writes – along with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Hotel Mumbai) – produces, and stars in Monkey Man, whose story described as “John Wick in Mumbai” was deemed too heavy for the Indian audience by Netflix, prompting Jordan Peele (Get Out) to watch it, buy it, and give it a theatrical release window, so impressed he was.

April began with showers, plus a tiny regional earthquake on the East Coast, but that didn’t keep anyone away from theaters, even if it was a slower weekend than much of March. Read on for the weekend box office report.
There was little surprise that Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” would win its second weekend at #1. Despite dropping 60% from its fantastic opening weekend, it still was able to take first place with an estimated $31.7 million to bring its total to $135 million after crossing the $100 million mark in its first week. It also passed the $361 million mark globally, with another $59.3 million grossed overseas this weekend.
The weekend offered two new wide releases in Dev Patel‘s directorial debut, the action-thriller “Monkey Man,” and 20th Century’s horror prequel “The First Omen,” the former released into 3,029 theaters vs. “The First Omen’s” 3,375 theaters. “Monkey Man” came into the...

"Monkey Man" is on track to make a nice bit of change at the box office this weekend, and good financial returns often lead quickly to sequel talk. First-time director Dev Patel is having none of that, though; as he told Variety this week, he's more focused on seeing his first baby make its way into the world.
"I'm trying not to get ahead of myself," Patel told the outlet when asked about possible sequel plans for the criminal underworld-set action thriller. "I know this sounds like a cliché," he continued, "but just to [...] birth this little thing, it's been a huge undertaking. This is all a dream come true."
We don't blame Patel for wanting to let the dust on "Monkey Man" settle before thinking of future projects. The road to this movie's theatrical release has been long, complex, and surprisingly gory. Patel tore his shoulder and broke his hand during filming,...

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire easily took the top spot this weekend at the box office, posting a much stronger-than-expected $31.7 million second weekend. We predicted about $25 million, so this is a significantly more extensive haul than expected for the MonsterVerse sequel, with it falling about 60% in week 2. That’s decent for a tentpole blockbuster like this. Everyone assumed the movie would be front-loaded, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, with it now on its way to at least a $200 million domestic haul – maybe more.
However, Godzilla and Kong’s good fortune at the multiplex spelled doom for two new genre titles – Monkey Man and The First Omen, both of which were gunning for some of that movie’s audience. Of the two, Monkey Man’s $10.1 million haul isn’t half bad if you consider that Universal picked it up for only about $10 million after Netflix opted to dump it.

You might have heard praises of Dev Patel‘s Monkey Man everywhere. Patel’s Labor of Love is an intense, high-octane action-thriller soaked in vengeance and served on a delightful platter of emotion and culturally rich optics. After rave reviews and accolades at film festivals, the movie was finally released worldwide on April 5. And despite stiff competition from Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, the movie has swept into second place.
Among the new movies, Moneky Paw Production’s Monkey Man outperforms 20th Century Studios’ The First Omen, with $10.5 million to $8 million+. While Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire still holds strong. The movie was expected to make around $50 million at the domestic box office but made $80 million.
The box office numbers worldwide were also mindblowing as it made a whopping $194 million instead of its expected $135 million.

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” dominated the domestic box office again, looming large over newcomers “Monkey Man” and “The First Omen.”
Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s monster tentpole added $31.7 million from 3,948 theaters in its second weekend of release. Ticket sales dropped a standard (for a tentpole of its size and scale) 60% from its mighty $80 million debut and stand at $132 million domestically and $361 million globally.
First-time director Dev Patel’s action thriller “Monkey Man” nabbed second place with $10.1 million from 3,029 venues, while Disney and 20th Century’s supernatural prequel “The First Omen” trailed at the No. 4 spot with a muted $8.4 million from 3,375 locations.
Both “Monkey Man” and “The First Omen” were destined for streaming — and not the big screen. With “Monkey Man,” originally set at Netflix, Universal Pictures landed rights for $10 million after filmmaker Jordan Peele (whose production company has a distribution deal with Universal) saw the movie and...

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire were the monsters with the mostest at the box office this weekend, as Dev Patel‘s much buzzed-about feature directorial debut Monkey Man and supernatural franchise installment The First Omen both opened behind expectations.
Neither genre film ever had a chance of taking away the No. 1 spot from Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Godzilla x Kong, but had hoped for a bigger slice of the proverbial box office pie. Godzilla, from filmmaker Adam Wingard, is proving to be a significant victory for Josh Grode’s Legendary Pictures on the heels of Dune: Part Two, which is the top-grossing film of the year to date with $660.7 million in global ticket sales through Sunday. And Godzilla is also a big win for Warner Bros. and Legendary’s MonsterVerse series, at a time when many franchises are struggling to remain fresh.

Sunday Am: Even better than expected results for Legendary/Warner Bros’ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire with a second weekend of $31.7M (-60%) after a second Saturday of $13.8M, +62% over Friday. The twosome are beating their chests to ten-day $135M total.
In second, Universal’s Monkey Man kept steady toward a $10.1M opening, after a $3.58M Saturday, -15% from Friday/previews. If ya think about it, even though this much grittier than any Bollywood film as we know it, it’s on the high-end of where movies for Indians audiences typically open. As a point of reference, Animal, which was a big bloody Hindi action movie last year opened to $6.5M. Typically the audiences for Bollywood movies come out in the first weekend and then fall apart in weekend 2. It will be interesting to see if Monkey Man has any legs off its B+ CinemaScore.

It was very humbling and nourishing at the same time."I mean, this is my first rodeo, but when you watch something back that you've directed the sheer amount of gratitude that fills your heart to all of the souls that took part in that vision, everyone that held a pole to move the chair to painted a face to like I look at that and I get overwhelmed by that feeling."Dev was moved to...

One of the most anticipated movies of this season is one we never really expected: Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man. But it could have slipped completely under the radar. And as it was originally set to be released exclusively on Netflix, the director and star knows that it took a lot of faith on the part of none other than Jordan Peele to get it to the big screen.
Speaking at Monkey Man’s Los Angeles premiere – after debuting at last month’s SXSW – Dev Patel said that Jordan Peele “took us from this thing that was brushed under the carpet to putting us on top of the mantel piece,” apparently referring to the reports that Netflix found the film too “gritty” for the service. “He saw the film; Jordan saw me as a filmmaker, someone broken out, like what he did with his amazing comedy show and became this filmmaker…...

It’s a primate face-off at the box office this weekend, plus some old-fashioned Antichrist horror on the side. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” looks to stick on top of domestic charts, holding off the opening weekend bows of Universal’s beat-em-up “Monkey Man” and 20th Century Studios’ horror revival “The First Omen.”
That kaiju victory lap probably has less to do with the staying power of “The New Empire” than the strength of its competition though. The blockbuster monster mash earned $8.5 million on Friday, down a steep 77% from its opening day a week ago. “The New Empire” could be eyeing a drop north of 60% across the three-day frame — not a superlatively large decline from a blockbuster’s opening weekend, but still a pretty sizable one. It puts in perspective the impressively slim 44% drop that fellow Legendary production “Dune: Part Two” faced in its sophomore outing.

Dev Patel’s Monkey Man was released on April 5, 2024, in the U.S. and Canada after its explosive reception at the SXSW Festival when it premiered on March 11. The horror prequel “The First Omen” and the action thriller “Monkey Man” arrive in theaters this weekend, but they’ll be no match for the mighty force of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”
20th Century Studios’ “The First Omen” opened with $725,000 in previews at the box office, while Universal’s “Monkey Man” opened a bit higher with $1.4 million.
It may be a close finish, but “The First Omen” is expected to pull away and finish in second place behind “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” The horror movie, a prequel to 1976’s classic “The Omen,” is projected to make between $14 million and $15 million in its opening weekend. “Monkey Man,” which was directed, co-written and stars Dev Patel, aims for a $12 million launch.

Ever since it was announced in 2018, Monkey Man had a difficult journey to its release. Dev Patel’s directorial debut received setbacks due to covid restrictions, budgetary issues, and a broken hand of the writer/director/star (this last issue resulted in a change of choreography to ensure Patel could deliver fight scenes one-handed.)
Netflix acquired the film for worldwide distribution, a move which would have buried the film courtesy of a dreadful algorithm, yet that scenario was avoided courtesy of filmmaker Jordan Peele. The Get Out director acquired this film under his Monkeypaw Productions banner, intending to release the film into cinemas as part of his distribution deal with Universal Pictures.
