‘Good Time’ Helped Robert Pattinson Get Batman — What’s That Mean For His Bruce Wayne?

‘Good Time’ Helped Robert Pattinson Get Batman — What’s That Mean For His Bruce Wayne?
Director Matt Reeves’ celebrated the official announcement confirming Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne/Batman in his upcoming Warner Bros. tentpole with a tweet featuring a gif from Pattinson’s “Good Time.” The post seemed like a simple way to celebrate the casting for “The Batman,” but it turns out Josh and Benny Safdie’s 2017 crime film played an instrumental role in Pattinson landing the gig. Sources close to the film tell THR that Reeves kept returning to Pattinson’s work in “Good Time” during the quick casting process, which became a two-person race between Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult.

Reeves’ “Good Time” tweet indirectly referenced how Pattinson’s work as petty criminal Constantine “Connie” Nikas helped convince the writer-director that the 33-year-old actor was the right man to take on the Caped Crusader cowl. So what does that necessarily mean for “The Batman” and what Reeves has planned for this new iteration of Bruce Wayne?

That ‘Pulp Fiction’/Brett Kavanaugh Mashup Came From ‘Good Time’ Directors Josh and Benny Safdie — Exclusive

  • Indiewire
Little of what emerged from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh’s dueling testimonies in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee can be described as good, but there are a few exceptions. Samantha Bee delivered a poignant (and humorous) message the next day, and Matt Damon’s impression of Kavanaugh was the highlight of last night’s “Saturday Night Live” season premiere.

No less funny is a minute-long mashup of the Supreme Court nominee’s testimony with Samuel L. Jackson’s famous “Pulp Fiction” monologue (below), which IndieWire has confirmed was made by “Good Time” and “Heaven Knows What” directors Josh and Benny Safdie.

“You’re Brett, right?” Jules (Jackson) asks as it opens. “Correct,” Kavanaugh responds. “I got into Yale Law School.”

“Check out the big brain on Brett!” Jules says. “You a smart motherfucker, that’s right.” Kavanaugh’s love of beer gets a lot of attention,

Pete Davidson Loves Robert Pattinson So Much He’s Promoting ‘Good Time’ More Than His Own Film — Watch

Pete Davidson Loves Robert Pattinson So Much He’s Promoting ‘Good Time’ More Than His Own Film — Watch
A lot of indie movie lovers were upset when Robert Pattinson’s career-best work in Josh and Benny Safdie’s “Good Time” was overlooked by the Academy for a best actor Oscar nomination, and Pattinson super-fan Pete Davidson is still not over the Oscar snub.

During an appearance on the June 20 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Davidson devoted the majority of his interview to praising “Good Time” and Pattinson, who happened to be sitting right next to him. Pattinson was on the program promoting his new indie “Damsel.”

Davidson, who has been all over the news recently thanks to his engagement to pop star Ariana Grande, appeared on “Fallon” wearing a shirt with Pattinson and Benny Safdie’s “Good Time” characters. Davidson’s hat also read “Elara,” a nod to “Good Time” production company Elara Pictures. The “Saturday Night Live” star was on the late night show

Adam Sandler Will Lead Safdies’ ‘Good Time’ Follow-Up ‘Uncut Gems’

Josh and Benny Safdie’s Good Time was a thrilling, vibrant crime drama, and we named it the best film of 2017. Although the brothers recently announced they will raise their scope with a 48 Hrs. remake, they will first take on the long-gestating project Uncut Gems, and they’ve found a new star.

Previously set to star Jonah Hill, he’s now tied up with putting the finishing touches on his own directorial debut, so his Click co-star Adam Sandler has stepped into lead. Executive produced by Martin Scorsese, not a great deal is known about the plot, but it’s inspired by Safdies’ own father, who worked in New York City’s hectic diamond district.

Adam Sandler Is One of the World’s Best Actors, and His New Role Suggests He Finally Realizes It

Last summer, in IndieWire’s review of “The Meyerowitz Stories,” this critic wrote that “It remains hugely frustrating how great Adam Sandler can be when he’s not making Adam Sandler movies.” If it didn’t seem necessary to hash out the distinction between a movie with Adam Sandler, and an Adam Sandler Movie, that’s only because the difference between the two is ridiculously obvious.

The former category includes fiercely beloved masterpieces like “Punch-Drunk Love” and “Funny People.” The latter category includes minor crimes against humanity like “That’s My Boy” and “Grown Ups 2.” If you see him in something directed by James L. Brooks, someone who idolizes James L. Brooks, or even by someone who’s met James L. Brooks, then you’re probably watching a movie with Adam Sandler. If you see him in something that co-stars David Spade, features a scene where Shaquille O’Neal throws someone over a house,

Adam Sandler Joins Uncut Gems for Scorsese and the Safdie Bros.
Adam Sandler is teaming up with Martin Scorsese for an upcoming movie. A24 is currently producing Uncut Gems, which is to be directed by the up-and-coming duo the Safdie brothers. Scorsese, easily one of the greatest living filmmakers working today, will executive produce the movie, which has just tapped the Happy Gilmore and Grown Ups star to headline the cast. This makes for an unexpected pairing, but one that could be quite promising.

Benny Safdie and Joshua Safdie made their way onto everyone's radar last year with their movie Good Time, which was also distributed by A24. The movie starred Robert Pattinson and, though it didn't make a huge splash at the box office, the movie managed to win over critics and is considered by many to be one of the better movies of 2017. That being the case, putting Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, which is to be their follow-up to Good Time,

Plot specifics for “Uncut Gems” are being kept under wraps, although the film is set in New York City’s diamond district. The screenplay was written by the Safdie brothers and their regular collaborator Ronald Bronstein. A24 is backing the drama after the company’s success with the Safdies on “Good Time” last summer.
