After losing more than 75 pounds for Season 4 of “Stranger Things,” in which his character Jim Hopper was wasting away in a Russian gulag, David Harbour had one thing on his mind.
“As soon as we finished my last shirtless scene, I sent my assistant to this great pasta place for lasagna,” Harbour recalls. “It only came in trays, so I gave her a little section and then I just took the whole tray and dove in like a maniac.”
After battling starvation, Soviet guards and a Demogorgon in the hit Netflix series, Harbour is currently facing some truly scary demons — family. The actor is appearing in Theresa Rebeck’s latest play, “Mad House,” at the Ambassadors Theatre in London, running through Sept. 4. Eight shows a week, Harbour storms and thunders as Michael, a schizophrenic man who is released from a mental institution and thrown into equally harrowing conditions as he...

The creators of new BBC Three comedy Bluestone 42 have defended the show from criticism that it may be offensive to serving troops.
Written by James Cary and Richard Hurst, Bluestone 42 is a comedy about a British bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistan.
The show launches in March and stars Oliver Chris (Green Wing), Kelly Adams (Hustle), Gary Carr (Death in Paradise) Stephen Wight (The Paradise) and Katie Lyons (Boy A).
Exec producer Stephen McCrum said that from the very beginning it was vital the comedy "got the spirit" of the army absolutely right.
"The one thing that came across with our early research was that it was really important to these people that we treated this world with respect," said McCrum.
"They take their professional lives very seriously. We made absolutely clear that these people are engaging in a serious and dangerous job and are doing it with great professionalism.

Now more than 50 years old, Ealing comedy The Ladykillers is one of Britain's best-loved films. So how will Graham Linehan, writer of The It Crowd and Father Ted, rework it for the theatre?
In the vaulting back room of a church off Islington's Upper Street in north London, five bad bogus men are plotting to bump off a little old lady. It is a hugely ambitious undertaking. Not only is The Ladykillers one of Britain's best-loved films, but the cast of the 1955 production – Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom and Danny Green – did include one or two actors that modern film programmes like to wrongly refer to as "legends", even if (pedantry aside) you know what they mean.
But this won't be a film; it's a stage version. And it's far from a knock-off of the film. The story's pretty much the same, of course – criminals posing as...

Alec Guinness classic crime caper re-cast as stage play in Liverpool by Father Ted and It Crowd writer Graham Linehan
It might be about criminals exploiting a sweet old lady so they can rob a bank, but The Ladykillers is regularly named as one of the nation's favourite comedy films. Now the Ealing classic is to be brought to the stage in a new version written by Father Ted and The It Crowd writer Graham Linehan.
Producers will announce that the memorably dark and stylish 1955 film is being adapted for the stage, with Peter Capaldi in the role of the charming but sinister gang leader Professor Marcus, played first by Alec Guinness.
The stage play will be very much Linehan's version. "I wanted the film to haunt the play rather than it be a transcription," he said.

The recent passing of John Hughes has elicited fond memories of his legacy. Comedies like Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off captured the essence of teen angst. His characters, awkward and clumsy, were filled with doubts, fears, and desires.

In movies like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween, teens are routinely punished for their promiscuity and rebelliousness; while in the new generation of torture/porn, kids are lured like dogs into unbearable situations.
