Classic rock and disco were once seen as at-odds, but, if we’re being honest, they cross-pollinated a lot. For example, Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” fuses the progressive rock and disco in a bizarre way. Here’s what makes the song so weird.
Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)’ portrays an emotion that’s rare in disco
Lots of rock bands made disco songs. Paul McCartney & Wings did “Silly Love Songs,” The Rolling Stones did “Miss You,” and Kiss did “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” They stuck to typical disco subject matters like love and sex. Meanwhile, Pink Floyd made a protest song about the British education system.
On top of that, the song is angry. How many disco songs — or other dance songs — are angry? How do you even dance while angry? I guess some underpaid Broadway performers would know.

Quentin Tarantino isn’t the biggest fan of The Beatles’ music, but he loves one of their movies. The film in question is very different from his own. Here’s a look at one of Tarantino’s most surprising opinions.
Quentin Tarantino fell in love with a Beatles movie in the 1990s
In Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman’s character said that there are two types of people in the world Elvis people and Beatles people. She opines that Elvis people can like The Beatles and Beatles people can like Elvis but nobody can like both equally. She intuits that John Travolta’s character is an Elvis man.
One might assume this dialog is just an interesting bit of character-building rather than a heartfelt observation. However, Tarantino believes what he wrote. During a 2021 interview with W, Tarantino named his favorite Hollywood movies from the late 1960s.

Rod Stewart’s “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” remains one of the most famous disco songs by a classic rock musician. Interestingly, the tune was inspired by a Rolling Stones song. After “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” became a hit, it inspired a Kiss song. Kiss’ song doesn’t sound too much like “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?,” regardless of the band’s intentions.
Another classic rock star helped write Rod Stewart’s ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?’
Carmine Appice was a member of the band Vanilla Fudge who went on to co-write Stewart’s singles “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” and “Young Turks.” During a 2023 interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine, Appice said recalled how “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” came together. He also said the tune inspired one f the songwriters from Kiss to go disco.
“Rod Stewart was a great guy,” he recalled.

Action romance is a tricky genre to master — it requires the right balance of heart and spectacle. But when done well, à la “True Lies” or “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” it will live on forever in the rewatch rotation.
Stunt coordinator-turned-director David Leitch has launched cars straight into the air and staged fight scenes that have had theaters erupting in thunderous cheers. His latest challenge, however, will be making the audience’s heart melt with “The Fall Guy,” in theaters now. Smartly, he cast Ryan Gosling, the living embodiment of a junior high schooler’s diary entry, to play the hero.
Adapted from the 1980s series, the Universal film follows down-at-his-heels action choreographer Colt Seavers (Gosling), who must unravel a treacherous mystery while on the set of the next big blockbuster. The movie happens to be directed by his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt.

Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy promised extreme action and even intense drama, and more than the fight sequences, the soundtracks of the movie were also carefully curated. A lot of discussion and deliberation went on inside the room to pick the most appropriate songs for every scene.
Ryan Gosling in The Fall Guy
There’s a variety of soundtracks used in The Fall Guy. From the heart-wrenching Taylor Swift break-up song ‘All Too Well’ to a karaoke version of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’, fans would not be able to guess what track comes next.
Ryan Gosling Did Not Like One Of The Fall Guy’s Main Soundtracks
The Fall Guy also featured some classic hits like the 1979 Kiss song ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’, but it almost did not make the cut as everyone seemed to hate it. Director David Leitch was the one who proposed the idea.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot elements from “The Fall Guy,” now playing in theaters.
Long before Taylor Swift embarked on the Eras Tour, director David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick had the idea to use “All Too Well” as a key moment in “The Fall Guy.”
McCormick, a self-professed Swiftie, and Leitch were trying to find a fresh and contemporary song to fit into a particular scene.
In the film, Ryan Gosling plays Colt Seavers, one of Hollywood’s top stuntmen. After experiencing an on-set accident, he falls off the grid for 18 months, ghosting aspiring director Jody (Emily Blunt), someone he also happens to be dating. The two awkwardly reunite on the set of her directorial debut, and when they wrap their first day, Colt retreats to his pickup truck reflecting on happier times with Jody.
McCormick thought a Swift song would be perfect for that scene, and even Gosling agreed.

In “Prom Dates,” two high school besties are sent reeling after their carefully orchestrated plans for the future take an abrupt turn, forcing them on a wild overnight adventure across town. If this set-up sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because director Kim O. Nguyen and screenwriter D.J. Mausner have combined a handful of ingredients from “Booksmart” and mixed them with some of the farcical odyssey of “After Hours.” However, unlike this teen raunch-com’s brilliantly conceived inspirations, its main friendship dynamic and ensuing shenanigans fail to resonate due to sloppy character construction and a cadre of cringe-worthy circumstances.
As innocent middle schoolers, Hannah (Millie Thorpe) and Jess (Hailey Philip) took a blood oath – one that went hilariously awry – to make their prom night the best night of their lives. But as seniors, the besties are finding that making good on their pact might prove difficult. Hannah (Julia Lester) is struggling with her sexuality,...

Ghost have announced a feature film titled Rite Here Rite Now, which is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 20th and 22nd.

Kiss are the latest artists to sell off their music catalog — and, in this case, their well-known onstage personas and makeup — for big money.
The band — which closed out its (alleged) farewell tour in December 2023 — announced they have sold the rights to their music and imagery to Pophouse, the Swedish company that created the Abba Voyage hologram show and is working on a similar project involving Kiss.
While the price wasn’t revealed in a joint press release, Fortune reports that Kiss raked in upwards of $300 million in the sale.

The recently retired Kiss has sold its music catalog, likeness and brand name to Swedish entertainment firm Pophouse. Financial terms were not disclosed, but The Associated Press reports the deal is estimated to be over $300 million.
“As part of the partnership, Pophouse will create digital versions of Kiss that will allow the band and their unique personas to live forever,” Pophouse and Kiss said in a press release announcing the deal. “Through a magical combination of cutting-edge technology and unrivaled creativity, Pophouse will bring the full, authentic Kiss experience to both existing and new fans for years to come.” The avatar show is slated to launch in 2027.
As part of the deal, Pophouse CEO Per Sundin says a biopic, a documentary and a Kiss experience also are planned.

In yet another example of anime blending into the real world, to celebrate the release of the Kizumonogatari -Koyomi Vamp- anime film, a compilation re-edit of the three Kizumonogatari anime films, the film has taken over Shinjuku Sanchome Tokyo Metro station in a media blitz until January 15. For those with a keen eye and have seen the original three films, you might be able to tell that Shinjuku Sanchome Station was the inspiration behind the iconic scene where Araragi and Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade met for the very first time. Alongside the collaboration, the film also announced that French artist Clémentine will be returning to compose the ending theme song for the compilation film after previously working on the themes for the second and third outings. During Kiss’ final concert earlier this month, the (allegedly) retiring band announced plans to continue on as digital avatars. On Friday, the Destroyer act revealed when their “new era” will begin: 2027.
“50 years is a long time, and what the future holds is in the making,” Kiss said in their latest promotional video trumpeting their digital forms. “A show is coming.”
Heralded as the big surprise to close out the band’s “final” gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Kiss premiered their avatars, created in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic.

In a perfect world, Kiss would have wrapped up the final show of their End of the World tour by inviting former members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss onto the stage for tearful hugs, an end to the bitterness that has consumed the group for decades, and one last rendition of “Rock and Roll All Nite,” giving the inevitable biopic a perfect last scene.
In the world we actually live on, Criss and Frehley were nowhere in sight when Kiss played their (supposed) final show at Madison Square Garden on Saturday evening.

Sometime around 11 p.m. on Dec. 2, Gene Simmons will walk offstage at Madison Square Garden in New York as the final notes of “Rock and Roll All Nite” echo through the arena, remove his Demon makeup for the last time, and say goodbye to the band he formed five decades ago. It’s easy to be skeptical about this considering nearly every farewell tour in rock history has been bullshit, this is actually the second Kiss goodbye tour, and this isn’t a band known for leaving money on the table,...

Choosing a Halloween costume is pretty much like choosing a new identity: it's one night to be whoever you want, and what's more fun than pretending you're a famous musician? Of course you could go more current and channel Beyoncé's "Renaissance" World Tour costumes, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, or Justin Bieber, but going back in time can be really exciting too - especially when it comes to paying homage to an iconic musician.
As far as musician Halloween costumes go, you'll be in good company. In 2017, Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney channeled Madonna and Michael Jackson with spot-on looks, while both Demi Lovato and Kim went as Selena Quintanilla in 2017. Beyoncé herself has often favored famous musician costumes for Halloween, dressing up with Blue Ivy and Tina Knowles as Salt-n-Pepa in 2016 and going as Toni Braxton in 2018. Madonna’s “Material Girl” is a very 1980s song and so is the classic rock song that outperformed it. Madonna said she enjoys material things while acknowledging their impermanence. She once told Oprah Winfrey “I’m so not the Material Girl now.”
Madonna‘s “Material Girl” exemplified the materialism of the 1980s. During its time on the charts, “Material Girl” was overshadowed by a classic rock song. Later, Madonna said “Material Girl” didn’t represent her true feelings.
Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ was overshadowed on the charts by a classic rock power ballad
According to Rhino Entertainment, “Material Girl” merely hit No. 2 on the charts. It was blocked from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 by Reo Speedwagon’s “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” On a surface level, “Material Girl” extolls the greed of the era. It also combines new-wave music with dance-pop in a way that was typical during the time.

Blondie’s “Call Me” sounds like a Kiss song that was supposed to combine multiple genres. Gene Simmons hated the song in question from the first time he heard it. He may have made peace with it because it became such a huge success on the charts.
Blondie’s “Call Me” is one of the most enduring classic rock songs from the early 1980s. It sounds a touch like one of Kiss’ most famous songs. Despite this similarity, one of the tracks performed a lot better in the United States than the other.
Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ has a melody that sounds like a Kiss song from the year before
Part of what makes Blondie’s “Call Me” so great is its melody. In the lead-up to the song’s chorus, Debbie Harry sings “Cover me with kisses, baby / Cover me with love / Roll me in designer sheets / I’ll never get enough.

Gene Simmons is known for his eccentricities. Even when he isn’t wearing makeup and silver armor on stage, he is a rock star in many ways outside of his music. Kiss has attached its brand to many different mediums, including comic books. Gene Simmons recently confirmed a longtime rumor about the band’s comic adventures and said these books have the potential to “recreate humanity” if it’s ever wiped out.

Rock’n’roll musicians have a habit of thinking of themselves like secular gods, but the truth is they’re not infallible. No matter how successful a band may or may not have been in the past, there’s never any guarantee their next record will live up to the heights they’ve previously scaled. Sometimes, everything that once went right just all goes wrong.
There are often extenuating circumstances, of course. Band members may leave due to death, drugs or just good old-fashioned “musical differences”, or an ambitious new direction may turn out to be more like a swerve into oncoming traffic.
Whatever the cause, the fact remains that just because an album has the name of a classic band slapped across the cover, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the album itself will be a classic.

Nicki Minaj has teamed up with Ice Spice for a new remix of her track, “Princess Diana”.
The single sees rap artists Minaj, 40, and Spice, 23, come together for the first time.
Born Isis Gaston, Ice Spice rose to prominence in late 2022 with her hit “Munch”.
The original “Princess Diana” track featured on Spice’s Like..? EP, released in January. This new version, released on Friday (14 April) has been reworked with Minaj delivering heavy-hitting bars.
Fans were quick to show their appreciation for the collaboration and praised it widely on social media.
However, some also noticed that the track may have included potential details about Minaj’s forthcoming music business ventures.
In early March, Minaj released her first single of the year, titled “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”. It samples Lumidee’s 2003 hit “Never Leave You”, and became Minaj’s ninth number one on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

Gene Simmons had to take a break and play sitting down during Wednesday night’s Kiss performance in Manaus, Brazil. The band’s Paul Stanley told the crowd that Simmons was sick. A review by ACritica claimed that Simmons’ illness forced the band to stop for around five minutes, but that he was eventually able to finish the show.
“We’re gonna have to stop,” Stanley said, gesturing at Simmons, who was seated with crew members looking after him. “You know how much we love Gene, and he’s obviously sick.

Ace Frehley recently gave Paul Stanley a week to apologize for a disparaging comment, but apparently all he got back from the Kiss singer-guitarist was a good old-fashioned “Fuck you!”
To quickly recap, last month Stanley told Howard Stern that a reunion with original Kiss members Frehley and Peter Criss would sound like “Piss.” Frehley, appearing on Eddie Trunk’s SiriusXM show last week, threatened to spill “dirt” on Stanley and Gene Simmons if he didn’t get an apology within seven days.
As promised, Frehley returned to Trunk’s show today (April 5th), a week later, with an update. When asked by Trunk if Stanley responded, Frehley said, “Yes, he did, not long after the show was over. I was blindsided by the phone call. … But instead of an apology, I got a five-second phone call which said, ‘Fuck you, Ace. I’m not going to apologize,’ and hung up.
