Sydney Sweeney‘s second film of 2024 is finally here, let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a disaster like the first one. Produced by Sweeney herself, Immaculate is a psychological horror film and it follows the story of a young nun who joins a convent in the Italian countryside. Her quiet life quickly turns into a nightmare because of the horrific secrets hidden in the convent. Directed by Michael Mohan, Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Álvaro Morte. So, if you loved Sweeney’s horror film here are some similar movies you should check out next.
The Convent
Co-written and directed by Paul Hyett, the 2018 film British horror film titled The Convent gives a similar atmosphere to Sweeney’s Immaculate. The Convent tells us the story of a group of young women seeking refuge from the turmoil of World War II in an isolated convent in the countryside.

Q. Detective Inspector Nicki Jennings, school headteacher Sita Anwar, nuclear physicist Ulanya Khomyuk, and MI5 spycatcher Lily Thomas… what do they have in common?
A. They’re all intelligent, high-achieving, mostly working class, female characters from period-set true story TV dramas, but unlike their castmates with real-world counterparts, none of them really existed.
At the end of a true-story drama, when the moment comes for viewers to see the real people the actors have been playing, the above lot have no accompanying photograph or news footage. Their roles are patchworks, either several real-world figures rolled into one, or wish-fulfilment created to open up storytelling perspectives. Wherever history hasn’t traditionally allowed women in, or wherever history books have failed to commemorate women’s work as (cough) rigorously as that of men, some screenwriters have opted to put their thumb on the scales.

The story of Kim Philby, the high-ranking British intelligence official who turned out to be one of the biggest double agents in U.K. history, is well known at this point. Dozens of books, fiction and nonfiction, have been written about how Philby took in the great and the good of MI6 and the CIA for decades before he finally had to flee across the Iron Curtain in 1963.

“The Last Kingdom” is ready for its last run.
With the debut of the feature-length film “Seven Kings Must Die” on Netflix on April 14, the epic series is wrapping up, with the fifth and final season having aired on Netflix in March 2022.
The film serves as a fitting send off to the series, which is based on the Bernard Cornwell novel series “The Saxon Stories.” Like the books, the show follows the fictional character Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon who was captured and raised by Danish invaders in England in the ninth century A.D. Uhtred is raised to live the life of a viking, but destiny puts him in the employ of the House of Wessex and King Alfred, who seeks to unite the disparate kingdoms into one country called England.

Plot: Based on the New York Times best-selling book written by Ben Macintyre, this six-episode limited series dramatizes the true story of two British spies and lifelong friends, Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby. The latter became the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American intelligence.
Review: The story of Kim Philby, one of the most notorious spies discovered during the Cold War, has been told many times over in both books and documentaries. While speculative stories and alternate histories abound, Philby’s tale has inspired John Le Carre’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the Matt Damon film The Good Shepherd. While these stories and adaptations have been interesting, the true story is fascinating in its own right. The new limited series A Spy Among Friends...

Warning: contains spoilers for all episodes of The Secret .
The importance of believing in yourself is continually urged, yet never with the warning that unchecked self-belief in the wrong hands is a grenade. Unchecked self-belief inflated by divine righteousness? That – as nobody with a refreshed newsfeed needs reminding – is a nuclear silo.
In four-part true crime drama The Secret, James Nesbitt plays Colin Howell, a former dentist and ex-member of a Baptist church community in Northern Ireland’s Coleraine. Howell is currently serving a life sentence for double murder, plus five and a half years for multiple accounts of sexual assault on anaesthetised female patients. The Secret’s generic title belies his singular story, one of unshakable belief in the self, and in a God-given permission to kill.

Exclusive: Deadline has an exclusive track from Dustin O’Halloran and Herdís Stefánsdóttir’s score for The Essex Serpent, which is set for digital release today via Lakeshore Records.
The Apple TV+ limited series from See-Saw Films follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes), who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. Seaborne forms a surprising bond of science and skepticism with the local pastor (Tom Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.
When O’Halloran and Stefánsdóttir boarded the project, they looked to evoke the dark depths of Victorian England through the utilization of both electro acoustics and strings. “From our first conversations with director Clio Bernard, we knew we would be creating something layered and multidimensional,” the composers told Deadline in a joint statement. “This was our first collaboration together as composers and it allowed us to explore subjects like fear of the unknown,...

Exclusive: Billions’ Damian Lewis and The Affair alum Dominic West are in negotiations to headline and executive produce a limited series adaptation of bestselling Cold War espionage thriller A Spy Among Friends for Spectrum Originals and UK streamer BritBox.
The six-episode A Spy Among Friends, based on Ben Macintyre’s book, comes from former Homeland executive producer Alexander Cary, Sony Pictures Television and ITV Studios. It is tentatively scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2021.
A Spy Among Friends follows the defection of notorious British intelligence officer and Kgb double agent, Kim Philby (West), through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend, Nicholas Elliott (Lewis). The show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day.
Philby was a British spy who notoriously defected to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, betraying secrets to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War.

Contains spoilers for Save Me series one
After appearing in the final episode of Sky Atlantic’s Save Me, Olive Gray faced a long, impatient wait for the thriller’s return. She auditioned for the role of Grace in 2017, when she was invited to set for what she assumed was a screen test. Instead, creator Lennie James and director Nick Murphy surprised her by offering the part in person and explaining that Grace’s character would be central in series two.
“That was three years ago,” Gray tells Den of Geek. “It’s been a waiting game ever since then.”
With Save Me Too airing and available to stream as a box-set, her wait is finally over. Promise fulfilled, Grace is now a pivotal role. A victim of child sexual abuse trafficking rescued by Nelly Rowe (Lennie James) on his search for his own trafficked daughter, Grace and Nelly become deeply entangled in series two.

Save Me Too isn’t an ordinary TV thriller. It has all the ingredients – crimes, victims, mysteries, tension, cliff-hangers – but shows them from a peculiarly human perspective. Instead of clustering the action around a police station with occasional visits to a victim or suspect’s house, it inverts that ratio and plays out on the streets and inside homes. Its police are largely absent, a peripheral presence at most. We never sit in on a daily investigation briefing or glimpse an evidence board.
It can be destabilising. The deliberate avoidance of procedural elements in favour of something looser, more vital and more emotional, leaves viewers without familiar bearings. Plot points can be tricky to pin down. Questions can go unanswered. Characters pulse in and out of play, their stories not always tightly connected to the main plot. But in the end, none of that matters. What matters are the characters,...

The British actor reflects on a year in which he was ‘everywhere’, from gritty TV drama The Virtues to Martin Scorsese’s starry gangster epic

This year, he’s starred in The Virtues, Line of Duty, Rocketman and The Irishman. He now plays Jacob Marley in the BBC’s new adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight is tackling a series of Charles Dickens TV adaptations, starting with A Christmas Carol, for the BBC and FX.
A Christmas Carol is coming to FX and the BBC as a three-part miniseries. While that might not initially sound like the most groundbreaking news, seeing as the original 1843 novella by Charles Dickens has been adapted countless times in every conceivable medium, there’s a (non-Oliver) twist here. This version will be brought to you by the creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight.
As we first learned back in November 2017, the BBC is teaming with Knight to adapt a slate of Dickens miniseries, starting with this year’s kickoff, A Christmas Carol, which will star Guy Pearce as Ebenezer Scrooge, the bah-humbugging holiday-hating protagonist who famously undergoes time-travelling therapy, courtesy of three spirits. Knight wrote the script and serves as executive producer, with Nick Murphy...

Nick Murphy made his name with a sexy, stoner cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” under the alias Chet Faker, a telling moniker for a pale Australian soul man. But like the jazz singer that moniker puns on, Murphy brought his own sexy, addled style to the table. It’s equally telling that he’s issued Run Fast Sleep Naked, his second full-length LP, under his real name. The singing’s less mannered, the vocal production lighter, the arrangements more varied, the rhythms more fidgety and expressionist. Maybe it’s...
