Netflix may not have a big superhero franchise, but they are absolutely in the comic book adaptation business. To that end, the streaming service is currently developing a TV show based on the best-selling Boom! Studios comic "Something Is Killing The Children." The series, which comes from writer James Tynion IV ("Batman") and artist Werther Dell'Edera ("Punisher War Journal") has been met with widespread acclaim, as well as massive sales numbers rarely seen outside of Marvel and DC Comics. That being the case, it's the perfect title to become a big streaming series.
The book was originally published in 2019 and was nominated for an Eisner, ultimately paving the way for the series to become an ongoing title, rather than the five-issue miniseries it was originally intended as. Boom! has also since published a spin-off titled "House of Slaughter," which also saw huge sales upon release. That being the case, there...

Last month, the Netflix streaming service announced that they were cancelling the epic mystery horror series 1899 – which came from the minds of Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, creators of the sci-fi thriller series Dark – after just one season. But Friese and bo Odar have an exclusive multiple-year overall deal with Netflix, and they’re not ready to part company just yet. Deadline reports that Friese and bo Odar are now developing a series adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book Something Is Killing the Children for Netflix.
Created by James Tynion and Werther Dell’Edera, Something Is Killing the Children is one of the most successful original English-language comic series of the last five years. A spin-off series called House of Slaughter has also been a huge hit. Something Is Killing the Children tells the following story: When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless.

A film adaptation of Boom! Studios graphic novel series “Irredeemable” and its spin-off “Incorruptible” are in the works at Netflix, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
BAFTA Film Award winner Jeymes Samuel is set to direct and produce. Academy Award nominated Kemp Powers will write the script for the adaptation, which will have the protagonists from each series face off – one a villain on a quest to become a superhero, and the other a fallen hero turned villain.
Created by comic-book legend Mark Waid (“Kingdom Come”) and illustrated by Peter Krause, “Irredeemable” ran for 37 issues and sold over 1.5 million copies during its initial run.
The official synopsis for the series is as follows: A deconstructionist remix of the genre, the series dramatizes how the world’s greatest hero — The Plutonian — snapped under the pressure of his responsibilities and charted a dark path to become the world’s greatest supervillain.

John Wick star Keanu Reeves is set to star in and produce both a live-action feature and anime series of his own project ‘Brzrkr’ for Netflix.
Having co-created and co-wrote the series, Reeves’ latest two projects are an expansion of a limited series that the ‘Bill & Ted’ actor has had in development for a number of years.
The story is described as a “brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ (Reeves) is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

Move over Bloody Mary and Candyman.
Disney just dropped the trailer for “The Empty Man” — a mystical, horrifying entity that is summoned if you find an empty bottle on a bridge, blow into it and think of him. On the first night, you hear him. On the second night, you see him.
“And on the third night,” a teen asks his creepy young friend who wishes to summon him. “Well on the third night he finds you.”
That’s the setup for “The Empty Man,” a horror film based on the Boom! Studios graphic novels that opens this month. James Badge Dale plays a retired cop who investigates a group of teens in a Midwestern town who try to summon The Empty Man, only for locals to mysteriously disappear and put other peoples’ lives in danger.
David Prior directs the film based on a screenplay he wrote based on Cullen Bunn’s graphic novel.

The story follows Teddy, a high school student in a sleepy Alaskan suburb whose life is turned upside down after he innocently posts a photo of his dad online.
He quickly learns that he and his family are in the Witness Protection Program and soon a man seeking revenge invades their town followed soon after by pursuing FBI agents. His dad’s reasons for going into the program also may not be as innocent as he says. Sources say the film is “Prisoners meets Running on Empty”.

Exclusive: Multiple bids are in on Snow Blind. This an adaptation of the graphic novel by Ollie Masters (The Kitchen) that has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star, with Gustav Möller, who directed the 2018 Danish thriller The Guilty, making his English-language directorial debut.
The script will be written by Patrick Ness, the author-screenwriter who wrote A Monster Calls and is adapting Lord of the Flies for director Luca Guadagnino at Warner Bros.
The thriller is being pitched as Prisoners meets Running on Empty, and the pic will be produced by Boom! Studios’ Ross Richie, Stephen Christy, and Adam Yoelin, and Nine Stories principals Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker.
They are smartly overcoming the social-distancing limitations of the traditional pitch. Potential buyers received a link to a recorded video of the pitch with an introduction from Gyllenhaal and Möller. All the execs who responded have had follow-up Zoom meetings, on which Gyllenhaal is participating.

Although the ’90s were very good to R.L. Stine and his fans, we are truly living in a new golden age of Stine right now. A new Goosebumps TV series is in development, a Fear Street film is on the horizon, HBO Max is developing an anthology series based on Stine's Point Horror books, and now Disney+ has given the green light to a series adaptation of Stine's Just Beyond graphic novels.
Based on the graphic novels published by Boom! Studios, written by Stine, and featuring interior artwork by Kelly & Nichole Matthews (with cover art by Julian Totino Tedesco), the Just Beyond Disney+ series is spearheaded by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and 20th Century Fox Television. The horror comedy anthology series will initially consist of eight episodes and is expected to arrive on the streaming service in the autumn of 2021.

Disney+ has given an eight-episode series order to Just Beyond, a horror/comedy anthology from writer Seth Grahame-Smith and 20th Century Fox Television, part of Disney TV Studios. It is based on the bestselling Boom! Studios graphic novel series from iconic children’s writer R.L. Stine (Goosebumps).
A writers room is being assembled and the series is expected to come to Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
Just Beyond was created by Grahame-Smith, author of the bestselling novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and screenwriter of Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, The Lego Batman Movie and The Saint for director Dexter Fletcher and star Chris Pine.
“I grew up watching Twilight Zone reruns and the original Amazing Stories with my parents,” said Grahame-Smith. “I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike.
