“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

Ted Lasso fans know both sides of British actress Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton: She’s the tough, biscuit-loving AFC Richmond team owner and grand mistress of karaoke with incredible pipes. Now it turns out the Season 2 Christmas episode, which ended with a joyous carol, was only a warm-up to the musical theater star’s holiday special, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas. (Credit: Apple TV+) The show is an emotional homecoming for Waddingham. The London Coliseum, a striking 118-year-old venue where it was shot before an audience of 2,000, was “where Hannah spent her childhood, running around backstage and watching her mom sing with the English National Opera,” says exec producer Moira Ross. “It’s where she got her start in music.” The evening features comedy bits, glamorous gowns, a swing band, plenty of songs — showcasing Waddingham’s range through opera, rock and jazz — and familiar names beside her onstage.

Fox bosses have defended the casting of Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former lawyer who helped spread baseless lies that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen, on The Masked Singer.
Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials, Fox Entertainment, said he had “absolutely no regrets” on the move.
“The Masked Singer is all about delivering jaw-dropping moments, which is exactly what [we] accomplished whether it was on set or with the viewers at home,” he added.
Wade joked about Deadline’s scoop on the casting. “My only regret or surprise was obviously that the reveal was spoiled but kudos to [Deadline], please just don’t do it again.
The former Mayor of New York was unmasked on the reality singing competition on April 20, months after Deadline revealed that his casting had already caused consternation among some of the show’s judging panel – particularly Ken Jeong, who immediately crossed his arms and walked off the stage.

Fox has even more costumes and tunes in store with The Masked Singer set to return for its eighth season.

The renewal comes as little surprise considering The Masked Singer has been a steady performer for Fox. The series consistently marks the network’s top Wednesday primetime title.

Rudy Giuliani was finally unmasked on The Masked Singer.
“It surprises us all that you’re here on The Masked Singer,” host Nick Cannon said as Donald Trump’s former lawyer was revealed as Jack in the Box during Wednesday’s episode.
“This is definitely something I never would have guessed,” added judge Robin Thicke.
There has been much controversy surrounding Giuliani’s appearance on the Fox reality competition series after his participation was first revealed by Deadline in February.
The reaction on the show to the man who helped Trump spread his baseless claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen was an interesting one.
There were genuine gasps and looks of shock from the audience as well as a stunned Cannon when the mask came off, and judge Ken Jeong immediately crossed his arms.
Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger looked confused and asked Jeong, “Is that Robert Duvall?” a reference to Thicke’s earlier guess.

The Masked Singer returned to Fox for its seventh season with a slew of good, bad and cuddly contestants.
“Welcome to the premiere you’ve been waiting for,” said host Nick Cannon. “It’s the most bonkers season yet.”
You may have already assumed that given that the reality competition series has its most controversial character yet lined up – Deadline revealed earlier this month that Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who propagated the lie that the 2020 election was stolen, caused judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke to walk off stage after he was unmasked.
Giuliani, however, does not feature in the season opener, you’ll have to wait for that.
[Spoiler Alert] Tonight’s evictee, dressed as McTerrier, was Duff Goldman, pastry chef and star of Food Network series including Ace of Cakes and Duff Till Dawn.
Goldman, who sang Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend,” had quite the eventful episode.
“Welcome to the premiere you’ve been waiting for,” said host Nick Cannon. “It’s the most bonkers season yet.”

Giuliani, however, does not feature in the season opener, you’ll have to wait for that.

Take That stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow aren’t prepared to wait about for an X Factor slot and have agreed to sing their new duet ‘Shame’ on the first Strictly Come Dancing live show this October.
The pair gave their first live performance of the track at the Help For Heroes gig last weekend (video below) and the experience moved Rob so much, that he forgot the lyrics to his next song after Gary left the stage.
‘Shame,’ is taken from Williams’ second greatest hits collection, In and Out of Consciousness. The lyrics are particularly poignant and clearly detail Robbie and Gary’s troubled relationship over the years.
The song will be released as the lead single from the album on the 4th of October 2010. The video is a light hearted parody of the blockbuster movie Brokeback Mountain and their Strictly performance will go out on Saturday 2 October.
