- Has held several executive positions within the corporate and government sectors and faculty/administrative positions at the University of Notre Dame and Oklahoma State University.
- Grew up in western Montana with 1 sister: Geralynne and 6 brothers: Chris, Michael, Sid (deceased 2023), Kevin, Mark (deceased 1975) and Sean (deceased 1995).
- On his own at age 16, he finished high school and supported himself by working the night shift at a sawmill his junior and senior years.
- Spent his late teens through early thirties in western Montana working various jobs including ranch hand, sawmill worker, and hard rock miner.
- Earned a bachelor's and three graduate degrees while working full-time, including a doctorate in Adult Learning and Psychology from Montana State University.
- Alone he traversed 3700 mile Lewis and Clark route from St. Louis, MO to the Pacific Ocean. Took odd jobs along the way to support himself, including working at gas stations, farms and ranches, grocery stores and other venues. Traveled most of the route under no motorized power via canoe, rubber raft, bicycle, horseback, and walking.
- Participated on the 1989 Montana Great Centennial Cattle Drive spending entire route on horseback helping to herd about 3000 head of longhorn and mixed cattle from Roundup to Billings, MT.
- Is a long-time animal advocate who has adopted and fosters many fur babies. Is active with The Humane Society and worked as a volunteer for many years with the US Dept of Interior Bureau of Land Management National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Program.
- Attended the University of Montana at the same time as J. K. Simmons.
- Former member of Montana Rodeo Association. Competed in steer wrestling and team roping.
- Was a voluntary forest fire fighter including assisting at the Smokejumper Base in Missoula, MT. Former rural fire department volunteer in several states.
- Certified in Medic First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness.
- In support of "The Safety for Sarah" movement for increased safety in film/TV production (named in memory of Sarah Jones, a camera assistant on Midnight Rider who was killed by a train during filming) Daniel Knight studied for and earned a Safety Trained Supervisor certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
- Completed Howard Fine Acting Studio 6-week Acting Technique Intensive with facilitator Howard Fine.
- Ongoing participant with The Groundlings Theatre & School in Los Angeles including Basic and Intermediate Core Track 12-week workshops and TV/Film Comedy & Sketch Masterclasses.
- Completed Howard Fine Acting Studio Audition for Film & TV Levels 1, 2, and 3 with facilitator Howard Fine.
- Completed Howard Fine Acting Studio 4-week class On Camera Acting with facilitator Marilyn McIntyre.
- Completed Howard Fine Acting Studio live in-person 4-day Scene Study Intensive with facilitator Howard Fine.
