Trump Roast
Jury selection might seem like the easy part of one’s criminal trial for falsifying records over an affair with a porn star. But for Donald Trump, on trial for some 32 felony counts of doing just that, Day 2 of his criminal trial was more like a gauntlet of second-hand personal abuse thanks to his lawyers reading out every mocking meme, elaborate insult, or straight-up “F**k You, Donald” potential jurors ever posted on their various social media accounts.
As noted by reporters and documented by sketch artists attending the no-camera-allowed proceedings, Trump did get some respite at times by falling asleep once again for brief periods. But when awake, the defendant was forced to sit and stew (and at one point get scolded by Judge...

When I ask Dulcé Sloan The Question, she reacts like I’ve just asked if a unicorn can ride around on a dolphin.
From my perspective, it seemed an obvious ask: If the powers now running The Daily Show decide — after more than a year of looking for a permanent host to succeed Trevor Noah — to offer the job to her, would she accept it?
But Sloan insists the concept is so unlikely, she can’t even imagine it — despite having guest hosted the show once (her week was cut short by the writer’s strike last year). She also performed alongside a lineup of guest hosts that included Sarah Silverman, D.L.

During The Daily Show segment “Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse” released Tuesday, correspondent Jordan Klepper headed to a Trump rally to ask supporters about presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s chances at the primary and the possibility of a Trump dictatorship, which the former president has alluded to and then later claimed he was kidding about it. To some Trump supporters, some of whom were dressed in American flag swim trunks and Maga caps, the answer rolled off their tongue.
One supporter suggested, “that’s what we need,” in reference to the dictatorship.

The parallels were impossible to ignore, so Jon Stewart decided not to ignore them. Both major American political parties have been unable to find new candidates to lead their presidential tickets, leading to a rematch in the 2024 election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. And in a much lower-stakes effort to find a leader for a legacy institution, Comedy Central has yet to decide on a new course for “The Daily Show” following the departure of Trevor Noah, despite months of public tryouts from guest hosts including Sarah Silverman, Roy Wood Jr., Desus Nice and more. So the network has brought back Stewart for a weekly appearance on Monday nights, starting with this week’s season premiere.
These similarities are lost on no one, least of all Stewart himself. Apart from an extended runtime and a quick appearance by former correspondent Jordan Klepper, there was little to announce tonight’s...

“Now where was I? I’m excited to be back. Why am I back, you may be asking yourselves, it’s a very reasonable question. I have committed a lot of crimes and from what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders,” he added.
Stewart was returning to the franchise that he turned around, ostensibly replacing Trevor Noah, who left over a year ago, with a few celebrity guest hosts helping out in between.

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday, and within three minutes was already going after Donald Trump — but also Joe Biden, taking a critical look at the president’s apparent age-related issues.
Announcing “Indecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,” Stewart dove right into special counsel Robert Hur’s report that exonerated President Biden on the matter of mishandling classified documents while also seemingly torpedoing his re-election efforts with its harsh description of Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. Stewart showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and likewise not being able to recall some basic facts. “It turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,” said Stewart, slipping seemingly effortlessly back into the role of the show’s host (monologue video below).

Jon Stewart is opening up about his highly anticipated return as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, nearly nine years after leaving the nightly gig.
Appearing on Monday’s CBS Mornings before returning as Daily Show host on Mondays through the 2024 election, Stewart said it was indeed the political environment that brought him back, while also sharing that the move was influenced by his departure from Apple TV+ over creative differences.
“I very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season,” Stewart said, then referring to The Problem With Jon Stewart not moving forward with a third season on the streamer. “I thought I was going to do it over at — they call it Apple TV+. It’s a television enclave, very small. It’s like living in Malibu. They decided, they felt that they didn’t want me to...

Jon Stewart is heading back to “The Daily Show.”
More than 25 years after starting on the Emmy Award-winning late-night show and nearly nine years after his exit, Stewart will host Monday episodes of “The Daily Show” through the 2024 presidential election. The Emmy Award-winning host will also serve as an executive producer on “The Daily Show” during this run.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

The night is always darkest before the dawn (or so they say), and just when it seemed like all hope was lost ... a hero made his dramatic, last-minute return. Okay, today's news isn't quite on the level of Christian Bale's Batman coming out of self-imposed retirement in "The Dark Knight Rises" or a bearded Cap stepping out of the shadows in "Avengers: Infinity War," but we'll take what we can at this point. Jon Stewart, everyone's favorite talk show host and political humorist, is making his grand -- and rather unexpected -- return to hosting duties on "The Daily Show" just in time for the upcoming American presidential election.
The news was announced by President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy (via The Hollywood Reporter), though with a wrinkle. Rather than returning full-time, Stewart will merely host one episode a week on Mondays while the network cycles...

Jon Stewart will make a surprising return to The Daily Show, 25 years after starting on the show. He will host the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week through the 2024 election cycle.
The news comes eight years after he stepped down from hosting the show, which revolutionized late-night television and brought through the likes of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee and Steve Carell.

Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show. After a yearlong search for Trevor Noah’s replacement, the longtime host and Noah’s predecessor has agreed to return on Monday nights through the 2024 election.
The new setup, a major coup for the show and for parent company Paramount, is set to begin Feb. 12. For the remainder of the week, the Comedy Central series will rely on a team of correspondents, which are likely to include Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. Stewart, who spent 16 years at the show, the majority of them Emmy-winning, will be heavily involved as an executive producer on the other nights as well. The move comes after Stewart prematurely exited his Apple TV+ show, The Problem, following creative differences between the iPhone maker and its host over potential topics and guests.

After holding a year-long bake-off among various celebrities to find the next host of its signature “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central is going to try a new recipe.
When the program returns from a hiatus, it is expected to rely heavily on a team of correspondents to lead each night, according to three people familiar with the matter, though it is not clear if the network has struck upon its final assemblage of talent. “Daily Show” could also rely on guest appearances by some of the celebrities who have hosted the program since Trevor Noah, the last permanent presence behind the desk, quit abruptly in late 2022.
Those looking for an immediate successor for Noah won’t find one — at least, not yet.

Exclusive: The Daily Show was a surprise winner at the Emmys on Monday night.
The Comedy Central series won the award for Outstanding Talk Series for Trevor Noah’s final season, an emotional end to his seven-year run. Many expected Stephen Colbert to win for The Late Show or Jimmy Kimmel Live! but it was Noah that picked up the award, becoming the first Black man to lead a show to victory in the category.
Afterwards, a number of questions were directed towards Noah and the team about the future of The Daily Show, a fair ask given that it has now been over a year since Noah left the show.
Deadline understands that over the next few months, the focus will be on its correspondents to lead the show through this election year, rather than another phalanx of celebrity guest hosts.

During his second night guest hosting “The Daily Show,” Desus Nice had a special segment for Comedy Central viewers: ripping into a guy he doesn’t like, DJ Envy.

The guest late night host then proceeded to use five minutes of his eight-minute monologue to rip into DJ Envy, a man he’s been publicly feuding with since 2018.

Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman are each being given a second week of guest hosting duties on Comedy Central’s still-without-a-permanent-host “The Daily Show,” which has been going with a lineup of guests to preside when not impacted by the now-settled writers strike. Jones took the hosting reins in January, the first week after the show returned to the air following Trevor Noah’s departure. (Noah’s final episode aired December 8 of last year.) Jones is hosting the week of November 13, while Silverman – who hosted for a week in February – returns for her second guest host go-around on November 6.
Jones is said to be on the Paramount shortlist of contenders to land the “Daily Show” job full-time, along with late-night talk show vet Chelsea Handler and Hasan Minhaj, the host of this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. A permanent host is expected to join the show in 2024, specific date unknown.

The Daily Show is back with another group of guest hosts, some more familiar to the show than others.
Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman are getting a second week behind the desk along with some other all-stars and show correspondents.
Jones hosted during the first week of the Comedy Central show’s return after Trevor Noah’s exit in January and will get another shot. She is thought to have been one of the names on a Paramount shortlist to get the job permanently, although some sources have cautioned that she might not want the job full-time.
That shortlist is also believed to include Chelsea Handler, who has regularly lobbied for the job, most recently during a spot on The Tonight Show, and is widely liked within the company after her appearance in February, as well as Hasan Minhaj, who was understood to have been close to landing the job...

Now that the WGA strike has officially ended, Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” is joining its late night counterparts in returning this October. But, it’ll be a few weeks later than the network shows.
“The Daily Show” will return with new episodes on Monday, October 16 at 11 p.m. Et/Pt. Similar to how it was operating before the strike began, the talk show will see a rotation of guest hosts, as a permanent replacement for Trevor Noah won’t take over until next year.
It remains unclear who exactly will be on that roster of guest hosts but, when the writers strike began in May, it fell right at the start of Dulcé Sloan’s week behind the desk. Michael Kosta, Charlamagne tha God, Michelle Wolf, Ronny Chieng, Lewis Black and Desus Nice were all set to host a week each after that.
Meanwhile, the search continues for a permanent host.
