Chris Moukarbel is an Emmy nominated director/ writer/ producer and runs the award winning production company Permanent Wave Productions. Moukarbel's first feature documentary Me @ The Zoo was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and was acquired by HBO Documentaries. Moukarbel then directed the Emmy nominated HBO documentary Banksy Does New York. Moukarbel directed and produced the award winning Netflix film GAGA: Five Foot Two, premiering at 2017 TIFF. In 2019 he directed/produced the film WIG ( HBO/Tribeca). His company Permanent Wave created the series Poly and the HBO series Sex On// which was conceived as a reboot of the classic show Real Sex.
Moukarbel's first narrative feature film Cypher, starring Tierra Whack with Jax Media and Imagine Entertainment, won Best U.S Narrative Feature at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival. He is also producing a documentary about the 12 time Tony Nominated Broadway show Slave Play being directed by Jeremy O. Harris for HBO. Moukarbel's work often explores ideas around performance and technology.
