Former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s highly anticipated testimony before the House Judiciary Committee began with a compilation of Donald Trump’s many gaffes and errors — undercutting the Maga Republicans who presumably want to use the hearing to impugn President Joe Biden’s mental fitness.
The supercut, prepared by Ranking Member Jerry Nadler (D-n.Y.) featured clips of Trump erroneously identifying international and American leaders, struggling to remember when he was married to his ex-wife, and other instances of the former president stumbling over his words and short-circuiting on camera.

Update: At one point at today’s marathon House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Wi) asked Special Counsel Robert Hur, “Did you find that the president was senile?”
“I did not. That conclusion does not appear in my report, Congressman,” Hur said.
Hur, who investigated Biden’s handling of classified material, concluded that no charges should be filed against the president in his report, released last month. But he also set of a firestorm among Biden and his supporters for suggesting that he was in cognitive decline.
That made his a target of Democrats’ criticism throughout the morning, but he also was grilled by Republicans on the decision not to prosecute Biden, as his rival in 2024, Donald Trump, makes claims that he is being unfairly targeted by the Justice Department.

When delivering a surprise address from the White House on Thursday, President Joe Biden slammed special counsel Robert Hur for suggesting in his final report of the handling of classified documents that he struggled to remember when his son Beau died.

A Justice Department probe has determined that President Joe Biden did not violate any laws in his handling of classified documents found at his home and office.
In a 388-page report released on Thursday, Special Counsel Robert Hur revealed that the department had “uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” but that “the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

On Thursday night, the Justice Department unsealed nine new tax-charges against Hunter Biden. The new charges come as the president’s much-maligned son finds himself at the center of countless right-wing conspiracies, GOP-led investigations into his foreign business dealings, and a DOJ special counsel probe Biden doesn’t sit down for many interviews, but he did recently talk to his long-time friend and confidant: musician and activist Moby.
The first part of the lengthy two-part installment of the “Moby Pod” was recorded before the DOJ’s new charges, and released on Friday.

House Republican leadership is sure of one thing: they’d like to start the impeachment process against Joe Biden. What’s less clear is what they’d like to impeach him over.

Rather than attacking the merits of the impending alleged hush money case against Donald Trump, Republicans on Fox News suggested that the news of former president’s potential arrest is part of a secret plan to distract from the allegations against Hunter Biden.
“Well, it’s very odd that [the news of a possible Trump indictment] would come out just the very next day after I revealed bank records which showed that the Biden family — the president in particular — hasn’t been truthful with respect to his family receiving payments directly from the Chinese communist party,” Republican Rep.

First Lady Jill Biden will be undergoing preventative skin cancer surgery next week.
Biden’s press secretary Vanessa Valdivia made the announcement in a January 4 Twitter post.
“During a routine skin care screening, a small lesion was found above the First Lady’s right eye,” she wrote. “Memo here from Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Physician to the President, with more information on the First Lady’s upcoming outpatient procedure to have it removed and examined.”
O’Connor’s memo, included in Valdivia’s tweet, shined more light on the situation. “In an abundance of caution, doctors have recommended that it be removed,” the doctor said. He also noted that the First Lady is scheduled to have “a common outpatient procedure known as Mohs surgery to remove and definitively examine the tissue.”

On Sunday, President Joe Biden visited the graves of his first wife and their baby daughter in a private memorial service. The day marks the 50th anniversary of the car crash that took their lives.
The president and First Lady Jill Biden, along with other members of the Biden family, attended a mass at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware.
After the service, the pair brought flowers to the gravesite of Neilia, the president’s late wife, and 13-month-old Naomi.

Neilia and Naomi died in a wreck when a tractor-trailer struck their car. Their passing occurred a month after Biden was elected to the Senate in 1972.
Biden’s sons, Beau and Hunter, suffered injuries but survived. President Biden was not in the car at the time of the crash.
The tragedy nearly pushed Biden to give up his political career.

Boebert, who wore a wrap with the words “drill baby drill” on the back, appeared to be the night’s interjector-in-chief.
Biden, as he did throughout the speech, sought to find common cause with Republicans as he spoke of caring for U.S. servicemen and women who may have been exposed to toxic substances while Afghanistan and Iraq.

Stephen Colbert released an extended interview with former Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, nearly five years after the candidate was a guest on the very first week of Colbert’s Late Show hosting stint.
In that interview, Biden explained how he was not prepared to run for president in 2016 due to the recent death of his son, Beau Biden, from brain cancer. And on Thursday night, toward the end of the 50-minute conversation, the topic once more turned to grief, this time in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

Joe Biden, appearing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, said that “it seems to me it’s awful hard to avoid the conclusion” that President Trump committed “an impeachable offense and a violation of constitutional responsibility.”
“I am confident in the ability of the House and Senate to deal with this,” Biden said. “My job is to just out and flat beat him. What I can’t let happen I can’t let this distract me in a way that takes me away from the issues that really are the reason why I’m running.”
Biden was commenting on the White House release of the non-verbatim transcript memo of a call that Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July.
According to the transcript memo of the call, Trump asked Zelensky to start an investigation of Biden and his son, Hunter. Hunter Biden held a directorship of a Ukrainian gas company,...

Joe Biden, who was President Obama’s vice president for eight years, said Obama used to often ask him during his second term what would motivate him to run for president.
Rev. Al Sharpton raised the same question during a lengthy sit-down with Biden that aired this morning on MSNBC’s Politics Nation.
“I’m really hoping some other folks step up,” Biden demurred. “I think we have some really good people.” When Sharpton pressed it, though, he clarified that he was not ruling anything out, and would decide by the end of 2018.
After the longtime senator and VP had to abandon a potential run against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race because of the fatal illness of his son, Beau, many Democrats wondered what might have been had Biden entered the ring. He told Sharpton that attending to his extended family’s ongoing recovery from Beau Biden’s death would...
