Making her "American Idol" debut on Tuesday, February 9 on the first round of Hollywood Week episode, Ellen DeGeneres showed that she is more than capable of being a judge on the singing competition show. The host of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", who was brought into the judging panel to replace Paula Abdul, didn't only bring jokes but also some honest critiques.
The 52-year-old got the chance to show that she won't hold back any harsh comments after Antonio "Skii Bo Ski" Wheeler covered The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud To Beg". "You frighten me," she said after the performance. "You were stalking us. You were like a leopard behind a cage." She added, "...seriously, don't frighten your audience - don't get so intense. Sexy and scary; it's a fine line."
The comedienne's candid words to Skii Bo Ski weren't the only ones she offered on the episode. She admitted to one contestant,...

A total of 95 people successfully went through in the first Hollywood Round on "American Idol". On Tuesday, February 9 night Ellen DeGeneres made her debut selecting those whom Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson and celebrity guest judges gave a second chance at the audition tour.
The 95 people chosen to enter the group round were selected from 181 hopefuls. They were grouped into eight and they got to choose to bring instrument or a capella. This bunch included Andrew Garcia, a father who wants to make a change for his son. Garcia brought a rendition of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" with his guitar and amazed everybody in the theater. Kara called it "genius", saying that Paula would be clapping and shouting when she heard that rendition. He went through along with worship pastor Tasha Leighton.
The fallen ones included Vanessa Wolfe who butchered her rendition of "No Rain" because she could not control her nerve.

They all got their start as little kids on Barney & Friends!
Which contestant from last night’s episode of American Idol stuck with you the most? For us, it’s a no-brainer: 23-year-old Erica Rhodes! You know, the chick with the whip who sang En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind?” Not only was she adorable and a great singer, but she got her start in showbiz as a child actor on Barney & Friends just like two of our other favorite little performers, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato! Erica may have turned out a little edgier than Selena and Demi (she didn’t have Disney in her corner) but there’s no denying that Barney has a knack for churning out some pretty talented kids!
Watch Erica’s audition, then let us know what you think:

Erica Rhodes may be known as that freaky girl off Barney, but she intended to drop the squeaky clean image for her recent audition on American Idol.
She appeared in front of the judging panel dressed as a Dominatrix complete with whip and gave a raunchy rendition of En Vogue’s ‘Free Your Mind.” She even sang the Barney “I Love You” song for the judges
The judges seemed to approve and sent her through to Hollywood, though we think that Simon was more impressed by the clothes than the voice!

Don’t just call American Idol hopeful Erica Rhodes “the Barney girl turned dominatrix.” This Texan hopeful describes herself as nothing less than “aspiring actress, singer, dancer, model, writer.” Whew. She previously studied broadcast journalism (see her in a student video here) and trained at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (per the La Times) and danced with the now-defunct Dallas Desperados. Judge her acting chops for yourself in this music video for Trap Starz Clik’s "Get It Big". But Idol fans will want to hear more of her music -- her YouTube channel includes this unreleased song "Nothing Left...

At the top of Wednesday night's Dallas-themed "American Idol" audition episode, guest judge Neil Patrick Harris told Kara DioGuardi that his goal was simple. "If I can make two, three dozen people cry, I feel like I've done my job."
Mission accomplished!
There were lots of tears in Dallas, all mercifully packaged into one quick "bad singers rejected" montage. In fact, out of the ten extended auditions shown Wednesday night, a whopping seven of them featured contestants who advanced to the next round. (Is that a record?) Perhaps that's why this episode was an especially enjoyable one! (Or maybe the joy came from knowing that the end is in sight for these frustrating audition episodes. Yep, I think that might be it.)
As Katy Perry proved on Tuesday night, a guest judge's performance can easily become the real reason to tune in. Neil Patrick Harris was quick-witted and charming. (He...

Dallas was the next stop in "American Idol" audition this week and this city sent out 31 contestants to Hollywood. Neil Patrick Harris sat with Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, and Randy Jackson on Day 1, replaced by Joe Jonas on the second day.
The judges got a tough contestant early in the audition. Julie Kevelighan tried out in the first season of "American Idol" but was plain bad. She went for a second chance this year but was equally bad. Problem was, she won't stop at singing one song even though the judges have said no several times. Security had to walk her out of the room and once she's out there, she blamed her breathing technique.

She went for a second chance this year but was equally bad. Problem was, she won't stop at singing one song even though the judges have said no several times. Security had to walk her out of the room and once she's out there, she blamed her breathing technique.
After a montage of yes to some women, the first yes to men was given to Lloyd Thomas. The dock worker is looking forward to provide a better living for his two daughters. Singing "Overjoyed...

Todrick Hall wowed the judges with his original song on "American Idol" -- all except for Simon (and Zap2it).
Hall performed an original song about "Idol," name-dropping the judges and basically begging them to pick him. We were not fans and neither was Simon.
Todrick can obviously sing but we almost wanted him to get rejected just because of his ridiculous audition piece. He could've really done a nice job on, for example, "If I Ever Fall in Love" by Shai (which another auditionee slaughtered), but instead he had to get his "funny" schtick all over the place. Yuck.
We hope to see him in Hollywood, singing actual songs. And we think it's neat he was in "The Color Purple" with Fantasia.

Erica Rhodes was whipping the judges into shape on "American Idol." Did you see her 'Free Your Mind?"
Rhodes was one of the kids on the old children's show "Barney and Friends," which is hilarious. In order to ditch her innocent image, she showed up to audition dressed like a dominatrix. Check it out.
We were big fans of Erica's sound, though strangely enough we don't think En Vogue's "Free Your Mind" actually showed off her voice as well as "I Love You, You Love Me" from "Barney" did.
Also, Barney kid singing for Barney Stinson? We like it.

Things couldn't have been much worse in Dallas than they were in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. After all, it's where "American Idol" found first-season winner Kelly Clarkson, so chances were good that more potential winners could be found in Texas on Wednesday night (January 27), when "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris and the Jonas Brothers' Joe Jonas ponied up to the memorial Paula Abdul guest-judge spot.
Airport dock worker and father of two Lloyd Thomas, 29, continued the cavalcade of smooth-voiced parents taking their shot this year, with a buttery rumble through Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed," which Simon Cowell loved and Harris liked well enough.
Like the Katy Perry vs. Kara DioGuardi battle on Tuesday night, there was a clear difference of opinion on the panel Wednesday,...
