- Costume and Wardrobe Department
Born in 1965, Ingken Benesch grew up in northern Germany and after training as a dressmaker and studying fashion design in Hamburg, first founded the internationally awarded fashion label Hotel. In 2003, the designer, who now lives in Berlin, found her way into costume design for theater, movies and series via music videos and advertising.
Known for her cooperation with artists such as Jonathan Meese and Daniel Richter, Ingken Benesch then established herself in both the experimental and applied areas of the film industry. She was responsible for the costume design of the first Hamburg Tatort series with Til Schweiger, directed by Christian Alvart, with whom she also shot "Freies Land", among others. In collaboration with Detlev Buck, she created the costume design for the 1st feature film series "Bibi and Tina" since 2013, as well as for the feature film "Christmas Crossfire" and many more.
Also various art house productions such as "Top Girl, La Déformation Professionnelle" and "The Drifters" by feminist filmmaker Tatjana Turanskyj, are part of her portfolio.
The designer was able to draw on her northern German origins in her collaborations with Heinz Strunk, Jacques Palminger and Rocko Schamoni (as Studio Braun), for whom she designed the costumes for the films "Dorfpunks" and "Fraktus" directed by Lars Jessen. These were recently followed by the production of the series "Last Exit Schinkenstrasse" by and with Heinz Strunk.
in 2023 the release of the Milli Vanilli biopic "Girl You Know Its True" by Simon Verhoeven is expected.
In theater, she has developed costumes for Gob Squad at the Münchner Kammerspiele, HAU Berlin and Volksbühne, as well as for Niels Bormann + Maryam Zaree's play "Kluge Gefühle" with Anke Engelke. In addition, there have been collaborations in the music industry, such as a video for Rammstein "Mein Herz brennt", "Die Goldenen Zitronen" on tour 2011 or tour videos for Depeche Mode "Halo" + "Enjoy the Silence" by Anton Corbijn.
Several times Ingken Benesch was nominated for her costume design, already in 2009 for "Dorfpunks", in 2010 for "The Drifters", for "Banklady" and just recently for the costume design for "Freies Land" and the miniseries "The Billion Dollar Code".
