Some of the best romances are unconventional ones between two artsy or peculiar people. TV characters who are their full authentic selves can be a bit eccentric. However, that means that they attract and keep people around them who truly understand and appreciate them.
Sitcoms and tongue-in-cheek dark fantasy TV shows are great settings for exploring odd characters. From strange royals loosely inspired by history to surprisingly altruistic civil servants, there is a match for every person. Sometimes two people with completely disparate personalities shock audiences when they get together, but they somehow make sense and excellent writing ultimately sells the romantic pairing.

The Wheelers are Canadian citizens who sympathize with the totalitarian regime of Gilead, bringing danger to Serena in Canada. Alanis and Ryan Wheeler are wealthy and influential supporters of Gilead, valuing the society's ability to produce offspring. While Alanis adores Serena at first, she becomes disenchanted with her lack of devotion to Gilead's religious tenets, causing tension between them.
Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler are new antagonists in The Handmaid's Tale season 5. The Handmaid's Tale, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, is about an alternate world history where fertility rates have plummeted and the United States has gone through a second Civil War, resulting in the creation of Gilead, a totalitarian, theocratic society. "Handmaids", fertile women, are prized and enslaved for their ability to bear children. A harrowing and disturbingly insightful look into how society can backslide into fear and repression, this is a lauded series that has won 15 Emmys,...

By the time the fifth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” rolls around, Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) is already in dire straits. Still stuck in a detention facility in Canada, she has lost most of her allies, as well as her power and status in Gilead. But it’s after she learns that her husband, Fred (Joseph Fiennes), has been murdered that her world truly comes crashing down, as she’s left to fend for herself and her unborn child, in a foreign country and with the lingering fear that her former handmaid June (Elisabeth Moss) — who, alongside a group of other erstwhile handmaids, is responsible for Fred’s murder — could come for her next. While the grieving, desperate widow summons June to the battlefield in an act of retaliation, her main goal going forward, Strahovski argues, is to keep her head above water.

Elisabeth Moss on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Cliffhanger Finale and How to Interpret Her Final Expression
Click here to read the full article.
[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of The Handmaid’s Tale, “Safe.”]
After beginning its current season with the smirk seen ’round the globe, The Handmaid’s Tale ended with another telling expression.
The fifth season of Hulu’s dystopian series began by pitting June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) against Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski). At the end of the two-episode premiere, Serena had brought June’s Gilead-captive daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake), into view during a global broadcast of the funeral for her late husband, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) — and shot the camera a knowing smirk intended for June. Thousands of miles away in Canada, June received the message loud and clear.
But the world of The Handmaid’s Tale moves quickly and, by the pivotal seventh episode, June was faced with the impossible choice of helping Serena deliver her newborn baby or letting her die when the pair were stranded together in No Man’s Land,...

This review contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 episode 8.
Don’t celebrate yet. Don’t you know what show you’re in? Until Hannah is stretched out on your couch tossing M&Ms into her mouth, sharing TikTok videos on her phone and groaning when you ask her how school is, she’s not home. A lot can go wrong between ‘The US army has planned a raid’ and a happy ending – maybe save dancing to The Cure and hugging grocery clerks until your girl’s out of Gilead.
However Season 5’s ‘get Hannah’ storyline ends, happy is guaranteed not to be the sum total of it. It never is on The Handmaid’s Tale, a drama powered by emotional complexity. If June and Luke get Hannah back, she won’t just be a nearly-teenager (challenging enough to parent), she’ll be a nearly-teenager ripped from everything she’s known,...

Warning: contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 5.
Should have seen that coming. Two nice things in a row just happened to June and Luke (hot marriage sex plus romantic Al Green slow dance), so by the laws of The Handmaid’s Tale, one of them’s now going to have to lose a limb. No good deed goes unpunished on this show, which keeps its finger hovering over the ‘electrocute’ button anytime a character even comes close to having a good time.
That played out in the sad story of Jaden (Owen Painter), a young Guardian raised by Gilead after being stolen like Hannah from ‘unfit’ parents. Somehow, Jaden had retained a simple, instinctive goodness despite the regime’s brutality, and was working with Mayday to try to help. His political philosophy? “People should just be able to talk to each other, see their families, do whatever they want.

Introducing ‘31 Days’ A Collection Of Halloween Inspired Photo Sets By Rae Mystic, One For Each Day Of The Spookiest Month Of The Year: "What began as a photography challenge to capture 31 different halloween or horror-themed looks throughout the month of October in 2018 has now transformed into ‘31 Days,’ a physical collection of horror and spooky themed photography from renowned photographer, Rae Mystic.

In the years since starting the project, Rae Mystic has grown into a full-time photography and production business complete with a photo house, themed rooms, and a collection of wonderful clients.
“Three and a half years later, I decided it was time to pick back up this passion project.

Though a direct sequel to the Pixar movies that preceded it, “Monsters at Work” isn’t exactly the TV series you may expect. For one, it’s not a Pixar production. Yes, the Disney+ comedy is inspired by the world Pixar first unveiled in 2001, and, overseen by Disney Television Animation, it remains an in-house project; it’s just that the House of Mouse kept its Pixar pioneers busy on “Soul,” “Luca,” and the company’s actual first long-form TV series: “Win or Lose,” slated for Fall 2023.
So while we wait a few more years for the Pixar equivalent of the MCU hitting Disney+ (aka the animated equivalent of “WandaVision”) adjust your expectations accordingly for “Monsters at Work” — a pleasant, very well-cast office comedy for kiddos, without grander designs than that. So far, at least.
Along with smooth, rubbery animation lacking that Pixar depth and definition, “Monsters at Work” also makes a meaningful change in focus.

25 Best Pixar Movie Characters
From 1995 to 2009, Pixar released one sequel to a previous film: Toy Story 2, made in the shaky early days of the company’s relationship with Disney, and originally planned as a straight-to-video production. From 2010 on, Pixar has released seven different sequels or prequels, and extending franchises has become as much, it not more, a part of the company’s creative DNA as coming up with original stories. Fortunately, most of these continuation films have been good to very good — even if few of them feel necessary.

Disney+ launched with the promise of bringing many adored Disney franchises to the small screen, but with big picture ambition, storytelling, and production values. So far, that promise has mostly been met, with the Disney+ original series like Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feeling like stretched out features diced into episodic instalments. However, Monsters at Work, Disney+’s new sequel series to Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., feels more like traditional television than a “X-hour movie,” for better or worse.

Two decades after the wonderfully zippy, goofy “Monsters, Inc.” was released in theaters, Pixar is bringing back Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan for another adventure. The upcoming television series “Monsters at Work,” which premieres July 7 on Disney Plus, picks up where “Monsters, Inc.” left off, with CEO Henry J. Waternoose headed for the slammer, children deemed non-toxic, and laugh energy replacing the suddenly outmoded scream energy.
In reviving the beloved characters, voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman, showrunner Bobs Gannaway looked to expand the existing world with a new set of characters, among them Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), Val Little (Mindy Kaling) and Fritz (Henry Winkler). In the new Disney+ animated series, “Monsters at Work” (streaming July 7), Disney offers its own version of the Green New Deal with laughter replacing scares as the energy source. The sequel to Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.,” produced entirely by Disney Television Animation, picks up where the original Pete Docter-directed feature left off by exploring the difficult transition, with Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) now in charge of the power plant.
Enter Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), a promising Scare graduate of Monsters University, who gets transferred to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (Mift). And therein lies the conflict: How does he pivot from Scarer to Jokester while working in the basement as a maintenance expert?

It's almost time to catch up with Sully and Mike, the not so scary monsters that we first met way back in 2001's Monsters Inc, as the new Disney+ sequel series Monsters at Work arrives on the streaming platform on July 2nd. Today we were treated to the full trailer for the show, which follows up on the events of the original Pixar movie, when we saw the best buds cause their company to ditch screams for laugher energy.
The premise of the series sees new character Tylor Tuskmon arrive at Monsters, Inc. under the pretense that he is being employed as a "scarer", only to find the company has taken a different direction. While this takes the emphasis away from original characters Mike and Sully, fans of the duo shouldn't worry too much as the Billy Crystal and John Goodman voiced pair are still very much an integral part...

Disney+ has announced that Mindy Kaling has joined the cast of the highly anticipated animated series ‘Monsters At Work.’
Kaling will voice the role of Val Little, an enthusiastic member of the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (aka “Mift”). Bonnie Hunt will reprise her role as Ms. Flint, who was formerly in charge of training new Scarers at Monsters, Inc., but will now manage the department responsible for recruiting and training the funniest monsters to become Jokesters.
The series takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters,...

Exclusive: Hope springs eternal, at least Raising Hope does.
The Emmy-nominated Greg Garcia-created sitcom that ran on Fox from 2010-14 will be back for one night this weekend in a virtual reunion to benefit the A Is For charity.
Hosted by Ashley Nicole Black, the March 13 get-together (link here) will see Garcia joined by cast members Martha Plimpton, Garret Dillahunt, Lucas Neff, Shannon Woodward and Baylie & Rylie Cregut.
There won’t be a script reading, as many reunions have done over the past year. What there will be, I’m told, is some very up-close and personal recollections of the four seasons that Raising Hope ran. Some unfiltered responses to digital submitted audience questions are also on offer too.
The reunion is free, but a $20 donation is necessary if you want to ask questions of the participants. “I’m excited to get into some real behind-the-scenes stuff,” Plimpton told Deadline of the gathering.

Billy Crystal has finally provided an update on Monsters at Work, the animated continuation of Monsters, Inc. in the works at Disney+. It's been known that the series has been on the way for a while now, with Disney CEO Bob Iger first announcing the project in 2017. Updates on the show's progress have been rather stagnant ever since, as last year didn't bring much news beyond the fact that recording on the show had officially begun.
Speaking with Collider about the status of Monsters at Work in a new interview, Billy Crystal shed some light on the new series. This includes confirming that it is indeed an episodic program and that he'll be back as Mike Wazowski with John Goodman also returning as James P. 'Sully' Sullivan. From the interview:
"It's a series. John Goodman and I are Sulley and Mike. The show, time-wise, starts six months after Monsters Inc.

We're ready to round out today's entertainment news.
We have news about a TV series reboot, a movie franchise to television project, and a whole lot more.
Let's dig in!
First up, it appears Greg Berlanti has no desire to slow down.
He's getting back into business with ABC with Riverdale creator Ricardo Aguirre-Sacasa, the latter of which is working on getting as prolific with Berlanti.
They're developing a new series based on the Brides of Dracula called "The Brides."
Interestingly, this isn't the first time a Brides of Dracula-based series has been considered, and it's not even the first time This series has been on the table.
Described by ABC as a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy -- and their nontraditional family, a show with the same logline was offered to NBC five years ago.
While that didn't go forward,...

Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Nurse Dennis on CBS’ comedy Carol’s Second Act. Cedric Yarbrough, who has recurred as the character since the series’ launch, has been promoted to series regular.
Yarbrough’s Nurse Dennis is a hospital veteran who runs the town, and has little patience for nonsense from interns. Though he’s described as generally dry, he does have a mischievous side and isn’t above holding a grudge.
Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton, hails from Trophy Wife creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Heaton and David Hunt’s FourBoys Entertainment and CBS TV Studios. Written by Halpern and Haskins, it centers on Carol Chambers (Heaton), who after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, embarks on a unique second act: she’s going to become a doctor.
In addition to Heaton, the series stars Kyle MacLachlan as Dr.

CBS has ordered additional episodes of all five of its freshman series. Drama Evil, which was designed to produce 13-episode seasons, has been renewed for a second season to premiere in 2020-2021. New drama All Rise and comedies Carol’s Second Act, The Unicorn and Bob ♥ Abishola all have received back orders for the 2019-2020 broadcast season.
Per usual, CBS calls them full-season orders, though I hear at least some are partial ones. Like all Chuck Lorre-CBS series, Bob ♥ Abishola is believed to have received a Back 9 pickup; the orders for the others are about five episode each, I hear.
While none has been a breakout hit, CBS’ freshman series have been solid performers in total viewers by this fall’s ratings standards.
Boosted by a delayed viewing bump, Evil, created by Michelle and Robert King, is averaging more than 7.1 million viewers in Nielsen Live+7. The thriller drama will...

American Princess will not be returning for a second season, Deadline has confirmed. Lifetime has canceled the drama from Jenji Kohan, Jamie Denbo and Tara Herrmann, which was ordered straight-to-series last year.
Created, written and executive produced by Denbo, American Princess followed Amanda (Georgia Flood), an Upper East Side socialite who runs away from her own dream wedding when she realizes that the life she thought she wanted, wasn’t actually right after all. When she stumbles upon a Renaissance Faire, she experiences an unexpected awakening, leading her to leave everything she thought she cared about behind. While at the Faire, Amanda quickly develops new friendships, rivalries and romance that opens her eyes to new beginnings. Lucas Neff also starred.
The drama series was Lifetime’s last remaining scripted series, but the network denies it is getting out of the scripted business and has projects in development.

Lifetime has no more scripted content left on its slate.
The network has canceled “American Princess” after a single season which, coupled with “You” season 2 moving to Netflix and “UnReal” season 4 moving to Hulu, means its slate is now entirely made up of TV movies and docuseries.
“American Princess” hailed from Jamie Denbo and Jenji Kohan and revolved around a socialite who winds up joining a Renaissance Faire troupe. It ended its run on July 7 and starred Georgia Flood, Lucas Neff, Seana Kofoed, Rory O’Malley, and Mary Hollis Inboden.
The series hailed from A+E Studios and Im Global Television and. Denbo (“Ronna & Beverly”) created the series and exec produced with “Orange Is the New Black” showrunner Kohan and “Oitnb” vet Tara Herrmann.
The 10-episode series centered on an Upper East Side socialite who becomes a viral sensation for bailing out on her dream countryside wedding after learning that her...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.
This week’s question: What show was the hardest show for you to say goodbye to as a critic? Why?
Emily VanDerWerff (@tvoti), Vox
Like so many critics who came up professionally in the 2000s, I came up parallel to the rise and reign of ABC’s “Lost.” It was a show that sometimes infuriated me and sometimes annoyed me but always, always engaged me. Through most of the show’s run, I was scrambling to gain a toehold in the industry, but for its final season, I recapped the show for the Los Angeles Times and devoted everything I had to it. I know there were questionable decisions made in that final season, but bidding it farewell also felt like bidding farewell to a part of my life, and I have...
