It was almost 10 years ago when Darren Young (Fred Rosser) came out publicly as the first openly gay pro wrestler signed to WWE. In 2015, Sonya Deville (Daria Berenato) followed suit while on WWE’s reality competition series Tough Enough. There has been a trickledown effect since then with more performers across the industry feeling comfortable publicly living their truths. Among them in today’s era are All Elite Wrestling’s Anthony Bowens, Impact Wrestling’s Gisele Shaw (Gisele Mayordo), and the National Wrestling Alliance’s Pollo Del Mar (Paul E. Pratt). These three have blazed a trail all their own and are proud representations of how far the business has gone. While each admits there is still much work to be done, they believe we are most definitely headed in the right direction. Here these Pride ring warriors open up about their respective journeys. Welcome to this week’s Nwa: Powerrr review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Power is back! I’m not spelling it with the dumb triple r thing. I hate the way Pumpkin Boy books the Nwa. I have a feeling we’ll get more of the same with the return of Powerrr, but at least the Nwa was not sold to Vince McMahon (that we know of). Dokken’s “Into the Fire” is back as the theme. Don’t f—k with Dokken! With that, I say it’s time to get right to it. Nwa: Power starts…go fish!

James Ellsworth has been released by WWE, and the pro-wrestling promotion had the heart to refer to him as a “Superstar” in a statement to the media. “WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar James Ellsworth,” Vince McMahon’s company said on Wednesday. “WWE wishes Ellsworth the best in all of his future endeavors.” Ellsworth’s release comes days after the company cut ties with Emma, Summer Rae and Darren Young. “1, 2, 3”: WWE has cut Emma, Darren Young and Summer Rae from its roster. “WWE has come to terms on the releases of WWE Superstars Emma, Darren Young and Summer Rae,” the pro-wrestling promotion said in a Sunday statement. “WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors.” Emma had been feuding (in the ring) with new Superstar Asuka, who was dominant in WWE’s minor-leagues, Nxt. The two wrestled on the week-ago pay-per-view event, “Tables, Ladders and Chairs” (“TLC”). Their program continued the next night on “Raw.” Clearly, it won’t go any further. Howdy wrestling fans, and a big thanks to Aaron Oster and James Montgomery for tending to the homestead while I was off for last week's Raw and Payback spectacles. Tommy Dreamer and Baron Corbin could be surprise entrants in tonight’s third annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer noted today that there’s at least one surprise entrant expected in the match tonight and those two names were rumoured the strongest.
Former Ecw favourite Dreamer last appeared for WWE several months ago during The Dudley Boyz’s hardcore-style feud with the Wyatt family where he competed in a couple of matches in the last few weeks of 2015.
Corbin, who lost to a debuting Austin Aries at Friday night’s Nxt Dallas: Takeover show, has long been touted as a strong candidate for the main roster and perhaps an appearance in the Battle Royal tonight will be the beginning of a permanent switch to Raw and SmackDown.

Tyler Breeze is the latest name to be added to the third annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal that will air during the WrestleMania 32 pre-show.
Breeze’s addition makes it 7 names that are confirmed for the contest. The other names are; Kane, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Heath Slater and last year’s winner Big Show.
With 8 matches confirmed for the show which takes place in just over a week’s time, it seems unlikely that any more bouts will be added to the card, meaning that if you aren’t in the Battle Royal, you’re probably not getting on the show.
Notable wrestlers without a match on the card yet include the whole Wyatt family of Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan (though there are injury concerns over both Bray and Harper).

PWInsider.com are reporting that Titus O’Neil has been suspended by WWE for “unprofessional conduct.”
The former Prime Time Player was reportedly sent home from last night’s Smackdown taping in Portland, Oregon shortly after he arrived.
This relates to an incident that took place after Raw went off the air on Monday Night. Daniel Bryan was saying his goodbyes to the WWE Universe while the rest of the locker room watched on from the top of the stage – this was aired live on the WWE Network.
As Bryan made his way through the crowd of wrestlers to the back, Vince McMahon tried to follow suit but was grabbed by O’Neil on the way in what has been described as a “playful and physical way.”
McMahon responded by shoving O’Neil away, almost knocking into Stephanie McMahon as she tried to get past. This was caught...

The Royal Rumble 2016 card is a little light going in, with the one hour Royal Rumble WWE Title match being the only real draw. There’s only four other main card matches, with all of them being rematches.
WWE can get away with that kind of booking at this time of year, as the Rumble to ‘Mania season sells itself. The Royal Rumble brand is over, meaning fans buy the event based on past experiences/perceptions. The question of “who will go on to main event WrestleMania” is always an exciting one, and by making this year’s Rumble bout Roman Reigns’ title defence, the one hour contest is even more intriguing.
And even though the undercard is light, it could still end up exceeding expectations. In particular, Dean Ambrose versus Kevin Owens could end up stealing the show in the Last Man Standing Intercontinental Title match.

WWE 2K16 is the latest entry in 2K Sport’s wrestling cannon. Forgoing the arcade-like experiences of before, pro wrestling video games have long been obsessed with providing as realistic a simulation of WWE events as possible. That doesn’t just stop with great graphics, picture-perfect arenas or entrances, it extends to the actual in-ring action too.
To some, this is wonderful. To others, they bemoan the fact that the games are no longer quite as fun as they used to be. A clear focus on slowing matches down – thus theoretically making them more true-to-life – doesn’t appeal to some people. Whatever the case, it cannot be argued that 2K16 comes across better than 2K15, which proved a woeful first entry on the current generation of consoles.
In WWE 2K16, it’s interesting to note that some of the ratings for wrestlers feel a little distant from their real life counterparts.

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

It was announced during Raw that there will be two title matches on next week’s “Season Premiere” of Raw: Nikki Bella will defend the Divas Title against number one contender Charlotte and The New Day will defend the Tag Team Titles against the Prime Time Players, who get a rematch since they are the former champions.
The reason that Charlotte will face Nikki on Raw next week instead of at Night of Champions as originally announced is because Charlotte wants to face her just before Nikki’s countdown clock expires for the longest Divas Title reign ever. It’s set to expire during next week’s Raw, so the match will likely take place in the first hour to create some drama.
My guess is that Charlotte wins the match by disqualification when Team Bella interferes, which would lead to a rematch at Night of Champions where Charlotte wins the title.

Fans, don’t get your hopes up because we’ve been here before, but it seems that WWE may actually be putting an emphasis on their tag team division once again. Every couple of years a few strong teams bolster the ranks and we get excited thinking we’re experiencing a tag renaissance, and then several of the duos are broken up for no reason and tag teams matches go back to being filler.
Along with a host of other talented pairings, The Prime Time Players have become one of the focal points of the division, having just recently dropped the World Tag Team championship back to The New Day. Darren Young and Titus O’ Neil have a natural chemistry together which helps make their pairing work, which WWE finally realized after a disastrous attempt at a singles run for Titus.

In the latest weekly WWE 2K16 update from IGN.com, 22 more names have been announced as part of the game, set to be released this October:

It’s an interesting mix of talent with English & Gotch recently winning the Nxt Tag Team Titles. There are also Hall of Famers in this group like Edge, Randy Savage and Sgt. Slaughter. The late Rick Rude isn’t in the WWE Hall of Fame yet, but he certainly should be considered in the future.

WWE diva Natalya commented on Twitter on how she was blown away by the details of her ring attire.

There were more names announced today for the WWE2K16 video game that launches in October.
Here are the names that were announced by IGN.com: Diamond Dallas Page, Alicia Fox, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd, Cameron, Big Show, Bam Bam Bigelow, Dolph Ziggler, Finlay, Layla, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, The Miz, Naomi, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil.
There aren’t that many surprises in that grouping since a lot of them are current stars. Legends like Diamond Dallas Page, Bam Bam Bigelow and Lex Luger are all welcome additions to the new game and Finlay has worked backstage in WWE for over a decade, so even though he’s not currently on television, he’s a long time employee and his inclusion isn’t too surprising.
Here’s a video of Kidd and Cesaro’s entrance.

Lilian Garcia introduces host Jon Stewart and we’re under way! He drops a Beastie Boys reference and hypes up the show. ‘I’ve spent sixteen years talking about politics, it’s nice to be back in reality’. WWE? Reality? This is clearly a WWE-scripted intro, then. Huge boos for Cena’s name. This crowd is going to eat him alive. Mick Foley is brought out- cheap pops imminent…yup, there it is. They riff with each other for a while and it doesn’t really go anywhere. Still, nice to see Foley and Stewart looks up for this.
After the customary video package, it’s time for our first match…
Sheamus Vs. Randy Orton
Good choice for an opener. Orton went for an Rko early, but Sheamus bailed and cut a ringside promo and fans looking stupid.

There were three different tag team matches that were added to the WWE SummerSlam four hour event on August 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The divas tag team match will be a Triple Threat Team Elimination Match with Team Pcb (Paige, Charlotte & Becky Lynch) vs. Team Bella (Nikki, Brie & Alicia Fox) vs. Team B.A.D. (Sasha Banks, Tamina & Naomi). The rules are that if you lose you’re out of the match until one team emerges as the victors. An elimination match likely means they will get a lot of time too, which is great.
The Tag Team Title match will see the Champions the Prime Time Players (Darren Young & Titus O’Neil) vs. The New Day vs. Los Matadores vs. Lucha Dragons. First team to get the fall wins the titles.

A new video posted by IGN has apparently revealed the (almost) full roster for WWE 2K16.
It is common knowledge now that the new game will have a bumper roster of 120 unique characters, but the list below falls a few short of that while Hulk Hogan is still a part of it. The Hulkster has been removed from the game altogether for reasons that you don’t need me to tell you about.
There are a number of shocking inclusions, including Superstars down the pecking order in Nxt and Attitude Era stars who had very little to do with cover star Stone Cold Steve Austin. While there are also a number of notable exclusions, including the Legion of Doom, who seemed to be nailed on for a place in the new title after leaked video footage appeared to show Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Jim Ross recording commentary...

Stephanie McMahon has said WWE might book a homosexual wrestling character. She was speaking with The Daily Beast, who had asked if WWE is too scared to go Lgbt.
“Darren Young was the first WWE superstar to really come out as being homosexual, but his character in the show is not. At least, we haven’t done anything with it either way—just yet,” Stephanie responded.
She then said that a gay character could be in WWE’s future, claiming the company is all about being relevant.
“It could very well pop up in WWE because we are all about what’s relevant, and what’s pop culture, and what people want to see. So if there is an opportunity, we might just take it.”

There was a trend that took place during WWE Battleground with wrestlers doing spots on the side of the ring apron. It’s something that management has encouraged talent to do because they saw how common it is in Ring of Honor, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Any regular viewer of Ring of Honor knows they have been doing those kinds of bump for many years, so it’s definitely plausible to think that there was a Roh influence on it. One of the more famous ring apron spots that WWE wrestlers have done was when The Undertaker did the leg drop on the apron while his opponent’s head was under the bottom rope.

As much of the roster rallied for WWE's big trip to Singapore and Japan, there was ample room on last night's card for matches to run well past the five-minute mark. Hell, even Paige and Alicia Fox had an opportunity to showcase more than a pair of moves each before the former beat the Bellas' new Bff and scurried to safety.
And with Brock Lesnar among those en route to Asia, it meant Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns would finally get a chance to move their rivalry front and center.

The Prime Time Players duo of Darren Young and Titus O’Neil have earned themselves a WWE Tag Team Title match at WWE Money in the Bank on June 14 when they face the Tag Team Champions, The New Day.
Young and O’Neil earned their spot by winning a triple threat match on SmackDown against The Ascension and Lucha Dragons, which wasn’t much of a surprise. The Prime Time Players also were the runners up during the Elimination Chamber match on Sunday and then won a six man tag on Raw. It’s typical WWE booking where they want to try to build a team up so that they can become legitimate contenders.

Firmly into the home straight for Wrestlemania 31 from Santa Clara and off of the back of last night’s Raw, it appears the final card has been set, although you should expect to see some kind of Tag Title match added at some point, probably for the mammoth Pre-Show!
Officially added to the card last night was the long suspected, long awaited clash between ‘The Viper’ Randy Ortron and ‘Mr. Money in the Bank’ Seth Rollins. Rollins officially accepted Orton’s challenge in the opening segment on the condition Orton face Rollins later in the show.
Far from WWE to give away one of ‘Mania’s marquee match-ups, this of course was a tease of not just the Orton vs. Rollins match but also Sting’s first ever WWE match against Triple H, when he joined Orton in the ring to fend of the Authority as Raw went off the air.

WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year, so they try to get as many people on the show as possible. Last year WWE announced that they would have an annual WrestleMania battle royal named after Andre the Giant where the winner gets a trophy that is a statue of Andre, who was WWE’s first Hall of Famer.
From WWE.com, here’s a listing of the competitors in the match with two weeks to go until WrestleMania: The Miz, Curtis Axel, Ryback, Fandango, Adam Rose, Zack Ryder, Jack Swagger, Titus O’Neil, Darren Young, Big Show, Kane, Erick Rowan, Damien Mizdow and Sin Cara. That’s 14 names. The expectation is that there will be 20 people in the match, so they’re either waiting on announcing the final six or they aren’t going to bother announcing it.

The go-home show on the lead up to WWE’s February PPV, Fast Lane, should be a show that offers plenty of incentive to watch the main special event. This Raw should leave fans with every intention to watch Fast Lane and continue on the Road to WrestleMania. Of course, these go-home shows are hit and miss nowadays, so it’s up in the air where this one will fall. Let’s see.
Opening with John Cena’s music playing, and the face of WWE heading to the ring, this was a less-than-exciting opening to Raw for me, and for the fans it seems, because the reaction was muted and not very loud. Cena talked about Fast Lane on the WWE Network, he talked about his opponent, Rusev which brought out Rusev and Lana. Lana mocked Cena. Cena fired back with claims that he will “kick” Rusev’s “ass” at Fast Lane.

Darren Young has criticised the WWE’s upcoming tour of Abu Dhabi. The openly gay superstar is uncomfortable with the fact that Abu Dhabi is both sexist and homophobic in its laws and cultures.
“Why do we bring the best entertainment into a country like abu dhabi and they look down upon women and gays? I get it! #MillionsofDollars,” he tweeted on Tuesday night.
It goes without saying that this is somewhat of a PR nightmare for the WWE. International tours are worth a lot of money, but there are definitely moral questions that corporations should ponder when touring places like Abu Dhabi. Homosexual relationships are illegal in that part of the world, and women are made to cover up. That puts the WWE Divas and openly gay Darren Young in an uncomfortable position.
Yet the WWE look past these considerations and will tour Abu Dhabi this week.

WWE Nxt’s Kalisto is to be repackaged as a gay hairdresser, according to backstage insider MetsFan4Ever. The Reddit user has been right about several backstage developments in the past, but he’s also had his share of wrong information.
It is believed that WWE originally wanted to develop Kalisto as a replacement for Rey Mysterio, but they gave him a tryout recently as an unmasked gay hairstylist. “He blew away officials, no pun intended, with his portrayal, to the point that he is seriously being considered doing that gimmick instead of continuing with the Kalisto gimmick,” MetsFan4Ever states.
This could explain why WWE recently had Kalisto and Sin Cara losing the Nxt Tag Team Titles to the team of Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake.

We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 Royal Rumble, and there are a few things we know for certain: the Earth is round, gas is a volatile state and man once evolved from ape (or at least most of us accept that). Fortunately, I'm here to lay bare the various happenings within pro-wrestling's most widely viewed promotion, by way of untangling three-plus hours of Monday night madness.

Adam Rose made some waves upon his initial main roster debut, however, has petered out a bit since then. Despite this, Rose has continued his winning ways, thanks in part to his ever-changing pack of Rosebuds. The one constant in the group has been the Bunny, who has recently begun to involve himself in Rose’s match-ups.
Reportedly, there are some relatively big plans for the Bunny, who is shockingly getting a small push. Yes, a man in a giant white bunny costume is currently the focal point of a WWE storyline. Following SummerSlam on Sunday night in Los Angeles, new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman were walking outside of Morton’s Steakhouse in Los Angeles when TMZ cameras caught up to them. In the past TMZ has had a good working relationship with WWE like when they were on hand for Triple H showing off his new haircut (with fans that happened to be in Triple H shirts) or lat year when Darren Young announced that he was gay. There’s nothing wrong with WWE having a relationship with TMZ because it does get them a lot of press.
Lesnar spoke candidly about the win: “This isn’t the defining moment of my career. I look at it as I’m just getting started.” When asked what he ate for dinner, Heyman joked that Lesnar ate John Cena for lunch and for dinner. Lesnar just...

Stone Cold Steve Austin, along with quite a few other legends and current stars hosted a panel in celebration of SummerSlam to reveal the roster for WWE 2K15. There wasn’t any gameplay on display, but rather stills of each character’s selection screen portrait, which was a bit disappointing but hey, finally getting a glimpse at who is making the cut is still an event.
Unfortunately, the roster that was shown is noticeably thin. For comparison, there are only a little over 50 wrestlers confirmed in WWE 2K15, while 82 different stars made it into WWE 2K14. Naturally, this has a lot of gamers and wrestling fans upset, and subsequently glossing over some miscommunication between 2K Games, WWE, and even the stars running the panel.

The WWE video game series is making its first foray into next-gen gaming consoles, and hoping to make a big splash in the gaming industry after a big move to 2K Sports last year.
With no Summerslam Axxess this year, the WWE scheduled its WWE 2K15 roster reveal for August 16 at Club Nokia La, with none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin hosting. In addition to the WWE Hall of Famer Austin, John Cena, Roman Reigns, Cesaro, Sheamus, and Hulk Hogan will also be appearing.
2K has worked diligently to prepare for next-gen gaming consoles when preparing this game, as they’ve even brought in a ring crew member to oversee motion capture for the game. 2K Sports was hoping that in doing so it would help avoid unnatural motions.
In addition, 2K had Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole record nearly 35 hours of commentary, with much of it recorded together.

The highly anticipated WWE 2K15 roster has allegedly leaked online. The big news is that Cm Punk is in the game, alongside a range of Nxt stars. There’s 92 wrestlers in total, including Mick Foley who had been in doubt after not signing a WWE legends deal earlier this year.
The leak surfaced on GameFAQs, where it was claimed that the list came from the August edition of Game Informer Magazine. The post has since been removed.
The official roster reveal will be on August 16th in Los Angeles. 2K will be working in partnership with WWE’s SummerSlam event which takes place on the same weekend. That timing ensures maximum publicity for the video game’s content.
Is there any validity to this apparent leak ahead of time? The list certainly looks plausible. Punk’s contract may have expired, but he would have been under a deal when production of the game started.

The WWE main roster is always changing, some wrestlers leave for whatever reason happens to cause their departure, some wrestlers move up the card because management wants to give them a push and some wrestlers move downwards, or stay still, sometimes merely because the creative team has a lack of ideas for their television character.
The last twelve months have been memorable and a lot has happened to the main WWE roster since June of 2013. So, let’s take a look at the main superstars who are on the main stage of WWE, rate them, and look at how their future in WWE looks at this moment.
The grading system is as follows:
A+ – Is/Should be one of the main faces of WWE. A true star.
A – Should be/Is in the main event scene and has the talent to stay there.
B – Should be being pushed as a future top contender.
