Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Gio Benitez is hoping to marry the two jobs he holds for ABC News.
As the Disney unit’s transportation correspondent, he has been close to the recent movement into private space travel. As a newly named co-anchor for the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” he will handle stories that draw out viewers’ emotions and attention. He will continue to handle both roles.
“I’m a space geek,” says Benitez, “and I get to still keep on doing it.”
“I’ll tell you what he’s pitching,” says Simone Swink, the executive producer of ABC’s A.M. flagship. “He wants to be the first civilian and journalist on whatever the first mission to Mars is. That will be our ongoing conversation for the next five years.”

Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan have been named the new co-anchors of the ABC News program “GMA3: What You Need to Know.”
The pair’s promotion follows the exit of former GMA3 co-anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, who made headlines after news of a romantic relationship surfaced publicly and an investigation was launched by the network. Robach and Holmes were taken off the air in December.
“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News,” a spokesperson told TheWrap in January. “We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.”

The network also announced that Gio Benitez would join the Saturday and Sunday editions of Good Morning America as co-anchor, along with Whit Johnson and Janai Norman.
Pilgrim had been co-anchor of GMA on weekends, and Morgan filled in on GMA3 as the network sidelined Robach and Holmes amid revelations that they were in a romantic relationship. Harris, a longtime ABC News anchor, left the weekend broadcast last year to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. Davis will anchor on Sunday, and Johnson will helm Saturday, the network said.
“Linsey and Whit are both familiar faces at the World News Tonight desk, having filled in on the weekends and for David during the week,” ABC News President James Goldston said in a memo to staff. “They join the dedicated team as World News Tonight with David Muir wrapped a stellar year as the #1 program on all of television, broadcast and cable, for 23 weeks during the pandemic, polarizing election and deep divides in our country, the Saturday program won across all key demos last season for the first time in over two decades and the Sunday edition won the season in Total Viewers for the first time in 23 years.”

Linsey Davis and Whit Johnson have been named co-anchors of the weekend broadcasts of ABC News “World News Tonight,” filling roles in the wake of the departure of anchor Tom Llanas.
In a memo sent to ABC News staffers Monday, James Goldston, the unit’s outgoing president, said Johnson will anchor Saturdays, while Davis will anchor Sundays. They will commence their new duties this weekend. Both are expected to continue their other duties at ABC News. Davis anchors a primetime broadcast on ABC News Live and Johnson works at the Saturday broadcast of “Good Morning America.”
Davis was last year named anchor of the ABC News Live program, and has become a regular part of ABC News’ big special reports around such developments as presidential debates and elections. She will appear on ABC News Live Monday through Thursday, with a rotating group of anchors leading the venue’s Friday-night primetime program.

There’s no red carpet at this year’s Emmy Awards, but the show must go on. E!, ABC News, Kabc and Ktla are among the outlets still producing red carpet pre-shows on Sunday — and all of them have found unique ways to do it.

Some of the anchors on ABC News’ most popular programs have in recent days spent significant portions of on-air time covering an unorthodox topic: the inner workings of the company that employs them.
Hosts including “Good Morning America’s” weekend on air staff and “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin took to their shows on Sunday and Monday to discuss allegations raised in a Huffington Post article that claimed a senior ABC News executive, Barbara Fedida, made insensitive, sometimes racially tinged comments about several journalists of color at the Walt Disney-owned unit. ABC News placed the executive, who has overseen talent and career development at the news operation since 2011, on administrative leave following publication of the article, which detailed allegations of remarks made about such anchors as Hostin and Robin Roberts, along with former staffer Kendis Gibson.
Speaking Monday on “The View,” Hostin said she “was really disappointed and saddened and...

ABC News is adding more hours to “Good Morning America.”
After launching an early-afternoon version of the A.M. mainstay in 2018, the Disney-owned network now plans to double the hours of the show’s Saturday broadcast. Starting October 5, Saturday’s “Gma” will air starting at 8 a.m. in nearly 100 markets, including New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. All told, the new two-hour broadcast – anchored by Dan Harris Eva Pilgrim, Whit Johnson and Rob Marciano – will reach 40% of the U.S, though ABC said more stations will air the show in months to come.
All of ABC’s owned-and-operated stations have committed to airing the expanded show by early 2020, after the end of the college football season, ABC News said. At present, the Saturday hour airs at different times in different markets, depending on the needs of local stations.
“Every weekend viewers turn to ‘Gma’ for the news they need to start their day,...

It's been quite the summer for Paula Faris! Months after the TV star left The View in July, Paula also officially said goodbye to her gig as Weekend Anchor of Good Morning America on Saturday, Sept. 29. During her last day on Gma, an emotional Paula broke into tears as her co-hosts played a look back at her best on-air moments from the last four years. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This has just been the honor of a lifetime, and I love you guys, and you’ll be seeing a lot of me," the 42-year-old said after the video played for ABC viewers. "I’ve loved this show. And, these people. The love you see and feel on-screen is real. And, rare. It’s been my honor and privilege to be part of this team the last four years," Paula later wrote on Twitter following her final broadcast.
