The Best Hulu Original Movies Of 2022, Ranked

The Best Hulu Original Movies Of 2022, Ranked
2022 marked a very complex year for the ever-raging streaming wars. While consumers pondered which of their many subscriptions to finally cancel, HBO Max got busy purging its library, Netflix made preparations to crack down on password sharing, and Peacock tried bulking up to finally spark some interest. Meanwhile, the House of Mouse is still experimenting with the best of both worlds, uniting sister services Disney+ and Hulu with shared titles and bundle deals. Which of the streaming services is triumphing above the others remains up for debate, but for better or worse, they'll certainly continue to evolve until they successfully trample the competition.

One of the most exciting signs of change came from Hulu, which sought to bolster its library with more original titles, exclusive to the service. That mission was certainly accomplished, in large part thanks to a partnership with 20th Century Studios, the Disney subsidiary that announced a

Kaitlyn Dever Was Starstruck Working With Minnie Driver in "Rosaline"

Kaitlyn Dever Was Starstruck Working With Minnie Driver in
For Kaitlyn Dever, starring as the titular heroine in Hulu's "Rosaline" was a dream come true. She tells Popsugar that she first heard about the project - which reimagines "Romeo and Juliet" from the perspective of Romeo's first love and Juliet's cousin, Rosaline - years ago when she was 15. The actor, now 25, says that even when she read the script back then, "it was always something that was super special," adding, "I think society needs time to catch up with certain projects." The movie stayed in her head as an idea, and when screenwriter Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber called her up to ask if she wanted the lead part for real, she was thrilled.

During the film's production, she met two of her idols: Minnie Driver and Bradley Whitford, whom she calls "icons and literal legends." Dever admits she is a huge fan of the movie "Ella Enchanted,

Hey, it’s getting pretty close to movie award season, so what better time to, as they sing in “Kiss Me Kate”, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare”. Now, don’t think that you’re doing homework, since this new film delves into one of the Bard’s classics. Yes, it can be fun even though the cast isn’t singin’ and dancin’ up a storm as in West Side Story. Whoops, let the “cat outta’ the bag” with that last aside. Yet, it’s a different take on the tale from what’s been shown so many times before. This new “twist” builds itself around a minor character, much as with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern from Hamlet (who got their spin-off

Rosaline Review
Plot: “Rosaline” is a fresh and comedic twist on Shakespeare’s classic love story “Romeo & Juliet,” told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline, who also happens to be Romeo’s recent love interest. Heartbroken when Romeo meets Juliet and begins to pursue her, Rosaline schemes to foil the famous romance and win back her guy.

Review: Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s classic romance, has been adapted so many times that recent years have seen animated versions (Gnomeo & Juliet), zombie versions (Warm Bodies), musical versions (Camp Rock 2), and cheerleading versions (Bring It On: In It to Win it) in addition to traditional takes (Julian Fellowes’ 2013 version). While this play remains required reading for high schoolers around the world, the iambic pentameter doesn’t prevent teens from relating to the hormonal urges of the titular Capulet and Montagues who find themselves as star-crossed lovers. Still, another retelling is here

‘Rosaline’ Review: Kaitlyn Dever Grounds Fanciful Spin on ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Before Romeo fell for Juliet, he lusted after her cousin, Rosaline. He exalted her beauty to his friends (“The all-seeing sun / ne’er saw her match since first the world begun”) and bemoaned her rejection (“She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow / Do I live dead that live to tell it now”). To hoist the lovelorn Montague heir out of the depths of his dramatic doting, Romeo’s cousins encourage him to sneak into a Capulet supper. There he meets Juliet, and so begins their epic romance.

There have been attempts to nudge Rosaline out of the margins, to flesh a person out of a ghostly image. In some adaptations of Shakespeare’s tragedy, like Carlo Carlei’s Romeo & Juliet (2013), she gets more than a passing mention. In others, her presence is the point. Rosaline, which premieres on Hulu on Oct.

‘Rosaline’ Review: Meet Romeo’s Ex-Girlfriend

‘Rosaline’ Review: Meet Romeo’s Ex-Girlfriend
Rosaline is mentioned 10 times in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” her name invoked at moments when it seems opportune to remind Romeo that, indeed, his heart did love before he set eyes on charming Juliet, and yes, his ability to drop face-first into ill-fated love affairs is kind of his thing. And while Rosaline lurks at the margins of Shakespeare’s play, she doesn’t get a single line to speak, instead reduced to jilted has-been and cautionary tale. But Romeo’s ex has not been forgotten in the intervening centuries, and her side of the story has been dramatized plenty, including the 1966 film “Juliet in Mantua,” the play “After Juliet,” the musical “& Juliet,” and the book and its adapted TV series “Still Star-Crossed” (in which she was played by rising star Lashana Lynch).

In Karen Maine’s “Rosaline,” adapted from Rebecca Serle’s novel “When You Were Mine

Rosaline Review: A Revisionist Romeo And Juliet Retelling That Could've Used More Revising

Rosaline Review: A Revisionist Romeo And Juliet Retelling That Could've Used More Revising
Hollywood sure does love a feminist revisionist retelling. It's an easy sell: take a much-adapted story and give it a contemporary, self-aware spin — maybe with a post-post feminist heroine and a topical message thrown in. The only problem is that few are really successful at this gambit, with most leaning too hard on the novelty of seeing corset-clad women and chainmail-wearing men spout trendy slang. Unfortunately, "Rosaline," the comedic twist on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," but told from the perspective of Romeo's spurned former lover as she desperately tries to win him back, falls in the latter category.

Directed by Karen Maine, "Rosaline" is the unfortunate result of when two men ("500 Days of Summer" scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber) attempt to write a feminist retelling. The romantic comedy is painfully self-aware but rarely clever, instead falling back on rom-com tropes that were creaky back in the modern

‘Rosaline’ Review: Witty Comedy Reimagines ‘Romeo and Juliet’ From a Forgotten Ex’s Feminist Perspective

‘Rosaline’ Review: Witty Comedy Reimagines ‘Romeo and Juliet’ From a Forgotten Ex’s Feminist Perspective
Avid Shakespeare buffs might already be familiar with Rosaline. She’s not technically in “Romeo and Juliet,” but her name is briefly mentioned in the Bard’s tragedy all the same as an early romantic interest of Romeo Montague. Remember the original lover he follows into a party thrown by his family’s notorious adversaries, the Capulets, only to be struck by the sight of her cousin Juliet? Charming and witty despite being tidily formulaic and a little too tame, Karen Maine’s “Rosaline” delightfully assumes the unsung cousin’s perspective in Renaissance Italy, invading the era with a contemporary tongue and attitude amplified by stringy covers of modern tunes like “All by Myself” and “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).”

Considering countless modernized costume dramas and TV shows in the vein of “Bridgerton,” “Dickinson” and Lena Dunham’s nifty medieval coming-of-ager “Catherine Called Birdy” — not to mention iconic ’90s

The movie stars Kaitlyn Dever as Rosaline, the cousin of Juliet (Isabela Merced) who Romeo (Kyle Allen) thinks is his true love at the start of Shakespeare's iconic play - until he meets and falls head over heels for Juliet. In Shakespeare's text, Rosaline never even appears and is only mentioned by Romeo and his friends, and she's totally forgotten by the time the action between the star-crossed lovers gets underway. Kaitlyn Dever in 'Romeo & Juliet' Update Titled 'Rosaline' Main Trailer
"I was trying to steal him back! There's a difference." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a romantic comedy film titled Rosaline, a new twist on Shakespeare's classic Romeo & Juliet. This sounds fun and best of all - it's from the screenwriters of 500 Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars, and made by the director of Yes God Yes, all of which are outstanding films. Rosaline is a comedic retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," told from the point of view of Romeo's jilted ex, Rosaline, the woman that Romeo first claims to love before he falls for Juliet. She gets jealous and "schemes to foil the famous romance and win back her guy." The film stars Kaitlyn Dever as Rosaline, along with Bradley Whitford, Minnie Driver, Christopher McDonald, Sean Teale, Henry Hunter Hall, and Nico Hiraga; plus Isabela Merced & Kyle Allen as Juliet & Romeo. This looks quite fun,

Rosaline Trailer: Romeo's Scorned Ex Finally Takes Control Of Shakespeare's Narrative

Rosaline Trailer: Romeo's Scorned Ex Finally Takes Control Of Shakespeare's Narrative
The tale of the young, star-crossed lovers known as "Romeo & Juliet" has been told and retold for centuries, but Hulu and 20th Century Studios have a whole new perspective to bring to the table. In a comedic twist on William Shakespeare's classic romantic tragedy, the tale of "Romeo & Juliet" is being retold through the lens of Rosaline, the gal Romeo was exclusively dating before he ran into Juliet at a party and completely turned his entire life (and family) upside down. Rosaline is devastated when she learns that her boyfriend has left her for someone new, and goes on a mission to break the two of them up and win back the man of her dreams.

"Rosaline" looks to be taking the anachronistic approach of Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" and inverting it, with classic period garb and set dressings injected with contemporary language and sensibilities.
