‘Puppet Master: The Little Reich’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Udo Kier, Thomas Lennon, Alex Beh, Barbara Crampton, Nelson Franklin, Skeeta Jenkins, Michael Paré, Jenny Pellicer, Charlyne Yi | Written by S. Craig Zahler | Directed by Sonny Laguna, Tommy Wiklund

[Note: With the film finally getting a physical release in the UK, here's a reposting of my review of Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich from last years festival run]

Recently divorced and reeling, Edgar returns to his childhood home to regroup his life. When Edgar finds a nefarious looking puppet in his deceased brother’s room, he decides to sell the doll for some quick cash. Girl-next-door Ashley and and comic book pal Markowitz join Edgar for a doomed road trip to an auction at a convention celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets at the convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree that’s motivated by an evil as old as time.

I’m going to be honest, there’s absolutely no way this review is unbiased.

Second Opinion – Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2018)

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, 2018.

Directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund.

Starring Thomas Lennon, Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin, Charlyne Yi, Barbara Crampton, Michael Pare and Udo Kier.

Synopsis:

While trying to sell a morbid doll at a slightly distasteful murder anniversary convention, a comic book shop employee finds himself in the midst of an attack by unhinged, anti-Semitic puppets.

Sometimes, horror movies designed purely for shock don’t work. Sometimes, they come across like rather desperate and ultimately misguided attempts to push buttons in order to ‘trigger’ the ‘snowflakes’ in the audience. On occasion, though, a movie like Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich comes along – a film so deliciously silly and outrageously inappropriate that it’s impossible not to be carried along by its madness. With a script by S. Craig Zahler – also releasing the dreadful Dragged Across Concrete this week – it’s a movie that revives a cult horror franchise in blood-soaked fashion.

S. Craig Zahler-Scripted ‘Puppet Master’ Set To Be First Theatrical Release For UK Distribution Label Unannounced

Exclusive: Unannounced, the fledgling distribution label of former Works UK CEO Laurence Gornall, has picked up UK rights to the S. Craig Zahler-scripted comedy horror Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.

The reimagining of the 1989 cult film, in which all hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets up for auction at a convention, was written by Zahler (Bone Tomahawk), co-directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund (We Are Monsters), and produced by Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk).

Pic debuted stateside earlier this year at the Overbrook festival and had its UK premiere at Frightfest, which was attended by star Barbara Crampton. Udo Kier, Thomas Lennon, Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin, Charlyne Yi and Michael Pare also star.

Unannounced, which struck the deal with Cinestate, is planning a multiple-city UK theatrical release in Q2, 2019 and will present the film under the Fangoria banner, which was recently acquired by Cinestate’s Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich Review – Grimmfest 2018

A reboot of the now almost three decade-old Puppet Master franchise – a series which totals a mammoth 12 films at last count – The Littlest Reich will undoubtedly pique the interest of those outside of the original fanbase due to the pedigree of writing talent attached. It’s from the mind of one S. Craig Zahler, responsible for the double whammy of Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Bone Tomahawk (both if which he helmed and wrote). Zahler’s particular brand of witty wordplay, jet black humour and wincingly Ott gore is evident throughout The Littlest Reich. The film has been shepherded to the screen by the production arm of the recently resurrected Fangora brand, and like Blumhouse, there’s been real care here to ensure that horror aficionados haven’t been short-changed by an empty cash-grab exercise.

The great Udo Kier appears in the film’s 80s-set prologue as disfigured Nazi and

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich Comes to 4K Ultra HD This September
Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich is coming home this fall, and now you can own every gory bit of viscera that this mean machine sprays across the screen in glorious shades of crimson red, which will look even brighter and scarier in 4K Ultra HD.

Interview: Thomas Lennon on Fighting Nazi Puppets in Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich

It's never a dull day on set when you're acting alongside violent puppets and dismembered limbs. Out now in select Us theaters and VOD platforms, and coming to home video on September 25th from Rlje Films, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich balances brutal kills and zany humor, with lead character Edgar (Thomas Lennon) navigating the blood-stained carnage after an army of Nazi puppets come to life. Ahead of the movie's upcoming home media release, Daily Dead recently chatted with Lennon about his approach to the comedy and violence in the film, his familiarity with the Puppet Master franchise prior to coming on set for the new film, getting his son a dismembered hand cameo in the movie, and watching The Littlest Reich with an audience that embraced the movie's goriest moments.

Most people would've taken a look at this script or heard the pitch and said, "Oh no, this is not for me.

Arrow Video Frightfest Review – Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2018)

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, 2018.

Directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund.

Starring Udo Kier, Thomas Lennon, Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin, Charlyne Yi, Michael Pare, and Barbara Crampton.

Synopsis:

“All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets up for auction at a convention, setting them on a killing spree that’s motivated by evil as old as time.”

Is this the most insane movie involving Nazi puppets? I think so! Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich is the newest film in the long-running horror franchise, and serves as a reboot since it ignores twelve previous entries. That ends up being a big saving grace for The Littlest Reich as the film feels fresh but still familiar enough. While not a “masterpiece” by any means, this is the exact type of horror film hardcore fans love.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich wastes no time establishing the devious toys. Most

Review: Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich Was One Hell of a Sick and Twisted Blood and Gore Party

For those of you who twisted horror fans that enjoy insane amounts of crazy blood and gore in their movies, you're going to love the hell out of Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. Look, the Puppet Master film franchise isn't for the normal movie-going audiences. It's kind of a silly franchise, I know, but I can't help but enjoy these films! I love the campiness of them and how crazy brutal they can be in terms of blood, gore, and violence.

So, when I got invited to an early screening of Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich I had to go! I was already excited about the movie because it was written by the writer and director of Bone TomahawkS. Craig Zahler. I had to see what kind of demented story he came up with for the Puppet Master franchise!

Well, the story he came up with is set at
