Exclusive: After more than a decade, Silver Lining Entertainment, the management and production company founded by veterans Jeff Golenberg and Sam Maydew, is dissolving.
Golenberg and fellow Silver Lining partner Jason Shapiro have launched Strand Entertainment, a management and production company based in Los Angeles, bringing most of Silver Lining’s managers with them. Maydew has formed his own management/production company, 734 Media. The split we hear was amicable, with the former partners’ paths diverging, a process accelerated by the pandemic.
Joining Golenberg and Shapiro in their new venture are longtime colleagues Tarik Kanafani, Emily Rifanburg, Kaelyn Hutchins, and Aileen Lewis. Jeff’s brother, manager/producer Rob Golenberg, who was a partner at Silver Lining, has formed GoGi Entertainment, a new production company focused on international productions, with his former assistant Paulina Giron Velasquez. Kaos has been a long-time coming. Netflix first announced it had commissioned this British dark comedy reimagining Greek mythology back in 2018, but the pandemic meant that filming only started last year, and there’s already been one major cast replacement.
And even though we’re no closer to an official release date, the impressive cast list, unique premise and solid production team make Kaos well worthy of your attention.
‘Nothing Is Sacred’ in This Bold Take On Greek Myth
Set over eight one-hour episodes, Kaos is a contemporary reimagining of Greek Mythology exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld. The official synopsis describes how six humans will discover they’re part of an ancient prophecy:
“Zeus has a wrinkle. He’s worried it might mean the end of the world and it might. Because on Earth, six humans unaware of their importance or their connection to...

“The Nevers” has been canceled halfway through its first season by HBO. The Joss Whedon-created sci-fi drama will be pulled from streaming on HBO Max, along with the recently canceled HBO series “Westworld,” Variety has confirmed.
The Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly-led “The Nevers,” which aired Part 1 of its first season in Spring 2021, was set to debut the back half of Season 1 next year on HBO. Sources close to the situation say it’s possible that the already finished batch of episodes — which were completed under new showrunner Philippa Goslett, who came on board following the exit of Whedon before the show even debuted — will air on another platform.
“Westworld” was canceled by HBO Nov. 4, just under three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale Aug. 14.

“Westworld” won’t be returning for a fifth season.
Variety is reporting that HBO has decided to cancel the sci-fi series after four seasons.
The cancellation was reportedly due to the combination of the show’s shrinking viewership (which peaked at 12 million viewers but had decreased to just 4 million) and its high production costs (reportedly more than 9 million per episode).
The series, created by the husband-and-wife producing team of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, centred around a mysterious amusement park populated by lifelike androids, boasting a cast that included Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Angela Sarafyan and James Marsden, with Ariana DeBose, Aurora Perrineau and Daniel Wu joining in the fourth season.

HBO series ‘Westworld’ has been cancelled after four seasons, the network announced on Friday. The news comes barely within three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale.
Variety is told that a multitude of factors went into the decision to end the sci-drama, including the production’s hefty price tag, combined with dwindling viewership and an ongoing evaluation of programming across the board at HBO’s new parent, Warner Bros Discovery, reports Variety.
The David Zaslav-run company has been paring back spending as part of a plan to institute 3.5 billion in cost-saving synergies, which the business has promised to find over the next three years post-April merger.
However, even on the heels of a rough third-quarter earnings report, Zaslav has continued to underline the importance of healthy content spend, and HBO has several high-profile, big-budget dramas that make it clear the premium cabler isn’t cutting back overall,...

HBO has pulled the plug on its long-running sci-fi series "Westworld." The news comes just three months after its season four finale aired on Aug. 14. Longtime viewers of the dystopian drama were transported to a future where consciousness - both human and artificial - can be harnessed and transported to other planes of existence where reality is sharper, more compelling, and deadlier than most ever imagined. For many fans, HBO's decision to cancel the series came abruptly, particularly after cliffhangers in season four left the plot line open for a final season.
"I'm gonna miss all the badass women of Westworld. And we deserved to have a proper ending to this show," one Twitter user wrote, while another Twitter user added, "westworld deserved a fifth and final season."
Other fans weren't as surprised to hear the news after the show's fourth season became increasingly confusing. Following a...

Say farewell to the amusement park of the future, as "Westworld" has been canceled by HBO after four seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The announcement came nearly three months after the season 4 finale, but as recently as last month, co-showrunner Jonathan "Jonah" Nolan told Deadline that the show was still in discussions of returning. "We had always conceived of a fifth and final season," he said. "We're still in conversations with the network." Co-creator Lisa Joy echoed the sentiments and indicated the series had a planned conclusion. "Jonah and I have always had an ending in mind that we hope to reach," she said. "We have not quite reached it yet."
Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, it seems those conversations brought the series to its end. Based on the 1973 Michael Crichton film of the same name, "Westworld" is a dystopian science-fiction, neo-Western television series that was once one of HBO's most-watched shows.

Variety is told a multitude of factors went into the decision to end the sci-drama, including the production’s hefty price tag, combined with dwindling viewership and an ongoing evaluation of programming across the board at HBO’s new parent, Warner Bros. Discovery.
The David Zaslav-run company has been paring back spending as part of a plan to institute 3.5 billion in cost-saving synergies, which the business has promised to find over the next three years post-April merger. However, even on the heels of a rough third-quarter earnings report, Zaslav has continued to underline the importance of healthy content spend, and HBO has several high-profile, big-budget dramas that make it clear the premium cabler isn’t cutting back overall, including “House of the Dragon,...

Lena Dunham has baffled social media users with a “request” she made for the New York City Pride parade.
“When I go,” she tweeted on Sunday (2 October), “I want my casket to be driven through the NYC pride parade with a plaque that reads, ‘She wasn’t for everyone, but she *was* for us.’ Who can arrange?”
The Girls creator, 36, has been criticised many times in recent years for her white feminist gaffes – and this latest tweet drew confusion as it sees Dunham brand herself as an LGBTQ icon, something that many people in the community do not see her as.
“Gonna start living my life with whatever amount of confidence Lena Dunham has that makes her think she’s an LGBTQ+ icon,” wrote one Twitter user.
“Lena Dunham was truly the voice of a generation: white women in the 2010s using allyship to glorify themselves,” added another.

After 64 episodes of television, a feature film and a statue dedication, Aaron Paul has closed the book on Jesse Pinkman.
The Breaking Bad and El Camino star has decided that his two recent appearances on Better Call Saul are the perfect way to bid adieu to the character he’s played since Bad’s pilot shoot in 2007. Paul’s decision makes even more sense on the heels of Albuquerque’s unveiling of two bronze statues that commemorate Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, two fictional characters who turned New Mexico’s largest city into a tourist destination for fans around the world.
“[Jesse Pinkman] will always have a special place inside of me, but I can confidently say that [Better Call Saul] was the last time we’re going to see Pinkman. So it was a nice farewell,” Paul tells The Hollywood Reporter.

For as secretive as Westworld can be about its many twists and turns, sometimes the show just comes right out and tells you its ultimate ending. As it did many times for the conclusion of Westworld season 4.
Ever since midway through its third season, Westworld has been surprisingly open and upfront about the fact that the end is quickly coming for the human species. In season 3, the supercomputer Rehoboam was built specifically to keep humanity in line, control their violent impulses, and delay the inevitable apocalypse indefinitely.
Of course, human beings tend to not want to be told what to do. Caleb (Aaron Paul) destroyed Rehoboam, with Maeve’s help (Thandiwe Newton), and freed humanity to decide its own fate. Still, even after Caleb and Maeve’s heroics, Westworld never shied away from the fact that that fate would be pretty bleak.

This article contains spoilers for Westworld season 4.
"Westworld" is not an easy show to love. Every season, the series slowly unravels big mysteries and forces us to think differently about narratives, only to completely drop the ball in the finale. The season 1 finale was probably the best of the series, wrapping up the complex storylines and giving a semi-satisfying conclusion to the main character arcs. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) finally killed her maker, Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins.) Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) escaped the park and was on her way to find her host daughter. William (Ed Harris) had found the perfect game at last — one where the stakes were as high for him as they had been for everyone else. Unfortunately, every finale since has been kind of a letdown, as the mystery box storytelling sets viewers up with unrealistic expectations of their own perfect ending.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Westworld Season 4 Episode 8, “Que Sera, Sera.”] Well, it wouldn’t be an episode of Westworld if your brain wasn’t sweating by the time the final credits roll. “Que Sera, Sera” doesn’t answer every question posed by the previous seven episodes, but it does a good enough job to leave viewers satisfied — and hungry for more, should HBO renew the show for a fifth season. (Fingers crossed.) There are gunfights, tears, and deaths aplenty, and a beloved character from earlier seasons makes a welcome reappearance. Here’s how it happens. HBO Caleb, Frankie, and Stubbs After Frankie’s (Aurora Perrineau) shot, Team Caleb takes a pause in an alleyway. As Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) scouts out the area, he notices Caleb (Aaron Paul) twitching and reminds him that the Delos experiments never worked out, so there’s a good chance he’s not going to, either. Westworld Season 4 Episode 7
After watching “Metanoia,” I sat down in the living room with my wife and attempted to explain to her just why Westworld is so much fun for me, and specifically why Ed Harris is such a joy to watch. I spoke about his obvious acting prowess; you don’t get nominated or win as many awards as he has without having chops. I talked a little bit about the character he’s introduced playing, the Man In Black, and how he relates to the fearsome Yul Brynner Gunslinger character from the 1973 film. I talked about how the character, in the fourth season, routinely talks to a Host version of himself about the nature of reality and the philosophical question of what it means to be human. I talked about all the violent set pieces. I talked about the ensemble cast, which only seems to improve every season.

Warning: Spoilers ahead! When it comes to Westworld, always expect the unexpected. That's all the cast can really do anyway. As Aurora Perrineau previously told E!, the actors only get the scripts for the episodes once they're ready to film it. So Daniel Wu was completely unaware that his character Jay, a rebel leader, would become a host and later be stabbed in the head by Maeve (Thandiwe Newton)—all of which happened in episode six. "I was definitely shocked," he told E! News. "I didn't find out until right before episode five and I was like, 'Whoa, that would have been nice if I'd known earlier.'" [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Westworld Season 4 episode 6, “Fidelity.”] Evan Rachel Wood once referred to Westworld as the “acting Olympics,” and in “Fidelity,” Aaron Paul earns a spot on the podium. While Wood once had to “limit [her] emotional affect” as Dolores, going from crying hysterically to stone-faced and toneless in a nanosecond, Paul has now had to play several versions of Caleb Nichols, all in states of physical and mental decay. Twitching, stuttering, stumbling, screaming and sobbing his way through “Fidelity,” he delivers an electrifying performance. Elsewhere, Team Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) heads to Roaring 20’s-world to resurrect Maeve (Thandiwe Newton). But there’s a traitor in their midst, and Frankie (Aurora Perrineau) winds up in danger. Through flashbacks, viewers see how he was first introduced to Frankie, a.k.a. C (Aurora Perrineau) when she was a child. Recruited by the rebels for being an outlier, Jay held his newfound family at arm’s length after losing his own brother to the hosts. Despite the coldness between Jay and Frankie, they know each other well enough to realize when something’s off. After visiting New York to extract an outlier, the rebels return to Westworld where Frankie is helping Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) repair Maeve (Thandiwe Newton). As Bernard continues to predict what futures lay ahead of them, he warns her that one of the individuals returning from the mission isn’t who she thinks they are. Ultimately, the individual who fell victim to...

Westworld Season 4 Episode 6
Anyone who has ever played video games can empathize with Caleb (Aaron Paul) during “Fidelity,” the sixth episode of the fourth season of Westworld. I was never the kind of person who could sit and do a speed-run of any game, probably because I didn’t have the hand-eye coordination necessary to succeed, and I tend to like to explore games rather than just going from point A to point B as quickly as possible. Give me side quests. Give me Easter eggs. Give me time-sucking distractions. Granted, I’m generally not playing video games in an effort to stay alive, but my video game method looks very similar to the way Caleb slowly builds his way to an attempted escape from Charlotte Hale’s secret facility in Delos’s Manhattan headquarters.

Four years after first announcing that it had ordered the Greek mythology reimagining “Kaos” from “The End of the F***ing World” creator Charlie Covell, Netflix has finally set the show’s leading cast. Hugh Grant, Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Misia Butler, Leila Farzad, Nabhaan Rizwan, Rakie Ayola and Stanley Townsend have signed on as series regulars alongside Aurora Perrineau in the upcoming series, Netflix confirmed to TheWrap.
The eight-episode contemporary take, which heads into production later this summer, is described by Netflix as a “genre-bending series” that puts a “modern twist on Greek and Roman mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power and life in the underworld.”

I’m no technical expert, but did anybody ever consider unplugging Westworld for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in?
I ask because for a show in which nobody can ever really die — or, if they do die, they can be brought back as robots — and, after the third season, anybody can apparently change identities with just the flick of a switch, HBO’s Westworld is extremely bad at resetting itself.
As its fourth season begins, Westworld has settled into what is now a comfortable routine: Take a couple of episodes to establish the new normal, even if that amount of exposition is either completely unnecessary or woefully insufficient. Find an interesting rhythm for a few episodes at midseason. Unravel into convoluted chaos, wherein it becomes clear either that nothing really makes enough sense to remember or it becomes even clearer that there...
