Panavision has introduced a new anamorphic-rental-only lens, the Ultra Panatar II. The lens features a 1.3x squeeze, and a warm-hued flare, and covers a 46mm diagonal. That’s a nice way to celebrate 70 years of pure filmmaking.

As stated by Panavision: “Built to meet the demands of modern productions, Ultra Panatar II lenses offer a vintage Panavision anamorphic feel with vertical breathing, organic falloff, and a warm-hued flare. Designed for visual effects and virtual production, Ultra Panatar II optics deliver controlled distortion and consistent resolution across the field while covering a 46mm diagonal. With an enhanced anamorphic look that provides the feel of 2x-squeeze optics, Ultra Panatar II’s 1.3x squeeze helps maximize the lenses’ adaptability for different aspect ratios while meeting modern resolution requirements”. ‘Raging Grace’ FrightFest Review – Gothic Horror Mines Suspense and Terror from Immigrant Experience
Writer/Director Paris Zarcilla’s feature debut, Raging Grace joins films like His House and No One Gets Out Alive in examining the horrors of immigration from within the walls of a haunted house. Instead of ghosts from the past or creatures, though, Zarcilla spins a taut tale of gothic horror combined with personal drama that sets it apart. The focus on its characters means a slower-coiling horror story, but one that surprises with unexpected detours.
Joy (Max Eigenmann) lives in London as an undocumented Filipina immigrant. Housecleaning is the only work she can successfully find as a single mom to feisty young daughter Grace (Jaeden Paige Boadilla). To save up enough money to obtain a Visa, Joy sets her sights on affluent clients. It leads her to the sprawling estate of Mr. Garrett (David Hayman), an older man slowly succumbing to cancer. Winner of the Orient Express Award for Best Film at Fantasporto, “Kargo” is the second feature of T. M. Malones, and was initially screened in Cinemalaya last August.
Sara, a former stripper in Manila, moved to Maasin, Iloilo, where she was married and had a daughter with her husband, a lorry driver. Unfortunately, a road accident caused them both to die, shattering Sara's life, who succumbed to alcoholism, before she decided to take up her husband's job, in an effort to look for Jesus, the man who, in her mind, was responsible for her tragedy. The work is not easy at all, with her being constantly harassed by men, but eventually she meets a young girl and takes her under her protection. Her search for Jesus, however, continues.
Tm Malones directs a movie that unfolds in two axes, one literal and one symbolic. The literal one is essentially a road...

There’s a powerful social commentary running through U.K. horror flick Raging Grace that’s not always served by the film itself, which is neither scary nor all that convincing when it rummages through the toolbox of familiar genre tropes.
And yet, this debut feature from British-born Filipino writer-director Paris Zarcilla gets its message across despite all the jump-scares and haunted house hysteria. That message is simple but effective: In a world where immigrants toil at the behest of a privileged ruling class, to the point where they’re sometimes more indentured servants than free individuals, the horrors of everyday life far outweigh anything that a movie could invent.
Much of Raging Grace explores that ongoing system of exploitation, following a single Filipino mom, Joy (Max Eigenmann), who cleans swanky London houses to make a living and pay for an overpriced visa that will allow her to stay in England.

The nameless Black characters who make up the ensemble of Debbie Tucker Green’s “Ear for Eye” have a lot to say, but are also in no mood to explain themselves. As their words hit the screen with crisp, rapid purpose, forming hard truths on subjects ranging from privilege to police violence to updated family values, the contemporary Black experience is conveyed in a way that brooks no debate — after all, as one man states, “change is gonna do its thing with or without you.”
An electrifying adaptation of Tucker Green’s own theater piece, “Ear for Eye” is not out to coax audiences into taking its point of view, to reach across the aisle or to change hearts and minds in the process. Rather, this abrasive, exhilarating film is out to candidly say its piece, to identify and evoke the world as Tucker Green sees it, and doesn’t...
