Renegade Nell was a “chance to reimagine what a Disney hero is.” So says director Ben Taylor, who directs and executive produces the Disney+ original series created by Sally Wainwright. Taylor, known for Sex Education and Catastrophe, says Louisa Harland‘s ass-kicking Nell Jackson “makes absolute sense as the third part of that triangle” made up of powerful female characters created by Wainwright, such as Happy Valley‘s Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and Gentleman Jack‘s Anne Lister (Suranne Jones). In the eight-episode Renegade Nell, Nell Jackson, a quick-witted and courageous young woman, finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Ted Lasso‘s Nick Mohammed) appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined. The cool, and occasionally inconvenient, thing about Nell’s powers is that they activate when she’s in danger.

Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright returns with a surprising addition to her already jam-packed repertoire with this fun and beautifully acted action-packed adventure for Disney+.
Renegade Nell stars Derry Girls alum Louisa Harland as Nell Jackson, a feisty highwaywoman in 1700s Britain. Nell finds herself framed for murder and becomes a female highwayman in 18th century England, soon becoming the most feared highwaywoman in the country. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed) appears, Nell realises her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.
Far from being a straightforward historical romp, this is Wainwright’s unexpected foray into the fantasy genre. It is also the perfect vehicle for Harland who appears to be having a whale of a time here.
We spoke to Harland and co-stars Nick Mohammed, Adrian Lester, Joely Richardson, Frank Dillane, Alice Kremelberg, newcomer Jake Dunn and director Ben Taylor about their experience working with the legendary writer.

Having established herself at the BBC with the police procedural “Happy Valley” and the crossdressing costume drama “Gentleman Jack,” screenwriter-turned-showrunner Sally Wainwright has followed countless creatives and taken the Disney shilling to initiate her latest project. You can hardly blame her, given the reduced offer the cash-strapped British broadcaster is now extending even to its more illustrious dramaturges: rarely more than three episodes per series and four characters per scene. Imposed by post-Brexit belt-tightening, this sorry set of limitations has exasperated those obliged to work within them while dispiriting viewers, left watching the life — and the talent — drain from primetime broadcasts.
Mashing up historical and fantastical elements, the pricey-looking, eight-part “Renegade Nell” rides into a surprisingly crowded field for light period entertainments straddling the Stuart and Georgian eras, emerging after the sadly short-lived BBC comedy “The Witchfinder” and Apple TV+’s recent “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.” While...

The Warner Bros. Discovery production company Wall to Wall is co-producing the project with StudioCanal.
Despite rumors that the Avengers reboot could end up on HBO, it’s not clear which network or streamer the new show will end up calling home. The HBO rumors have been denied.

The UK’s second most famous 1960s British spy fantasy after James Bond is finally getting its long-rumoured reboot, reports Deadline. But what are they going to call it?
Two years before Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and co. made their comic book debut as ‘The Avengers’ in 1963, a UK TV series of the same name arrived that would continue all the way through the decade, and beyond in the form of 1970s sequel The New Avengers.
The Avengers was a one-hour weekly spy adventure series created by Doctor Who co-creator Sydney Newman, and starring Patrick Macnee as secret agent John Steed, with Bond actor Honor Blackman, Dame Diana Rigg, and Linda Thorson. As one of the UK’s most fondly remembered spy series featuring two of our most recognisable-in-silhouette TV characters, there’s been talk of a revival for years.

The Avengers originally aired from 1961 onwards, and starred Patrick Macnee as the dapper British secret agent and wearer of bowler hats, John Steed. Actor Ian Hendry originally starred alongside Macnee when the series began, but he soon left. Netflix wants fans of its British teen comedy Sex Education to “finish together” in the trailer for the show’s final season.
The two-and-a-half minute first look at the fourth season teases a busy farewell to the series, which helped catapult or bolster the careers of current and former stars, including Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Simone Ashley and Asa Butterfield. Set to the Meat Loaf classic “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” the trailer sees Butterfield’s Otis and Mackey’s Maeve grappling with the intricacies — including well-shot nudes — of a long distance relationship as she attends the prestigious U.S. school, Wallace University.
Gatwa’s Eric can also be seen realizing his anxieties over how he and Otis not being losers again may be overblown as he further embraces himself, and encourages other Moordale Secondary classmates to as well. And at home, Gillian Anderson...

Netflix released first-look images for “Sex Education” Season 4 on Wednesday, as the final episodes of the acclaimed series are set to debut on Sept. 21.
As previously announced, the high school dramedy will end after its fourth installment. The pictures hint at what’s to come for the beloved ensemble cast as they transition from Moordale Secondary — which was shut down last season — to Cavendish Sixth Form College.
Otis (Asa Butterfield) faces the challenge of re-establishing his sex therapy clinic at a school that is way more progressive than Moordale was. The show’s official logline summarizes life at Cavendish as “daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?!”
Academic overachiever Viv (Chinenye) finds the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach bewildering. Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling) still holds heartbreak over Cal (Dua Saleh), and Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) takes...

Netflix’s first teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth season of Sex Education was accompanied by bad news for the show’s fans. Season four will be the show’s final season.
In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, series creator Laurie Nunn revealed the fourth season jumps forward a few months after the events of the season three finale.
“Maeve is in America, which is where we left her on the bus, going off to study. The Moordale Secondary students are starting at a new school called Cavendish College, which is very different from Moordale. It’s very progressive and woke, and it makes the Moordale students feel like they’re little fish in a big pond,” explained Nunn.
Returning cast members include Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, and Kedar Williams-Stirling. Mimi Keene, George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu, Dua Saleh, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro,...

The second season of Netflix's Sex Education dropped on Jan.17, and while bingeing all eight episodes in one sitting, there's one thing that immediately became obvious: Otis and Maeve probably weren't going to get together. At the end of season one, Maeve showed up at Otis's house to admit she'd been secretly carrying a flame for him but - in a scene that reminded us of our years of Ross and Rachel-related angst, she arrives at the exact moment Otis and Ola share their first kiss.

At the last tally, it was revealed that Netflix already had a global subscriber base of 139 million. That means a large percentage of the accounts watched at least one episode of Sex Education.
"#SexEducation has come out with a bang — the smart and emotional series is on pace to be watched by over 40 million accounts over its first month," it was revealed via Twitter.
"Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject," reads the official logline.
