This review of “Don’t Make Me Go” was first published June 13, 2022, after its release in theaters.
Your enjoyment of the mostly half-baked road trip drama “Don’t Make Me Go” will probably depend on how you respond to its last-minute plot twist.
John Cho stars in and emotionally grounds this two-star tearjerker from director Hannah Marks (“After Everything”), which follows an insurance salesman who struggles to tell his teenage daughter that he’s got a malignant tumor when they travel cross-country to New Orleans for his college reunion.
Unfortunately, the movie’s unexpected plot twist violently re-directs its treacly uplift narrative for the sake of a Hail Mary conclusion that’s almost ridiculous enough to be campy fun. It’s not though, since the twist in question feels like a last-ditch effort to convince viewers that the movie’s otherwise plain story, credited to Vera Herbert (series writer on “This Is Us...

For the first time in quite a while, last weekend saw major new releases enter the Australian theatrical market, in the form of Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel and Aussie James Wan’s horror Malignant.
Yet neither could catch Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
While last weekend was technically the Disney title’s eighth in release, for Sydneysiders just emerging from lockdown, it is only the second weekend the film has been available.
Pent-up demand saw it collect $1.2 million, just a 20 per cent dip, moving to just shy of $13 million.
According to Numero, the top 20 titles mustered $3.3 million, up 7 per cent on the previous.
This coming weekend should see the market return to some semblance of normal for the first time since June, with cinemas in Melbourne and Canberra able to reopen from Friday.

Like many who live in Melbourne, Mitchell Hope is using the lockdown to broaden his skill set.
The young actor, known for his roles in Disney’s Descendents franchise and Let it Snow, has felt the full force of the city’s battle with the virus, having returned to his hometown in February of last year following seven years of dividing his time between Australia and the US.
However, instead of baking banana bread or cultivating a green thumb, he told If he had spent the time indoors furthering his knowledge of filmmaking.
“The pandemic has been terrible, but I’ve started doing something I’ve always wanted to do, which is to write my own work and produce my own films.”

In one of this year’s better holiday movies, Netflix’s Let It Snow, two teens belt out the Waterboys’ “Whole of the Moon” in an empty church, their voices unskilled but sincere. Tobin (Mitchell Hope) plays the organ while “The Duke” (Kiernan Shipka) sings along — you don’t need to know much else beyond the fact that Tobin has been hopelessly in love with Angie, a.k.a. the Duke, for years — and the lyrics of this 34-year-old song are the only words that do when expressing that.

Netflix's new holiday rom-com Let It Snow looks like Love Actually, but for modern-day American teenagers. Unlike the 2003 holiday film, however, the new movie is based on a work of literature. Back in 2008, Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances was released as a Ya book, and that's what forms the inspiration for the upcoming Netflix movie.
Technically, Let It Snow is not a novel in the true sense of the word. It's actually a collection of three short stories, each with a different protagonist but one thing in common: they're all stranded in the small town of Gracetown when a massive snowstorm hits. The three stories are "The Jubilee Express" by Maureen Johnson, "A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle" by John Green, and "The Patron Saint of Pigs" by Lauren Myracle. The Netflix film weaves together these three narratives all at once, rather than separate as in their original stories,...

What do you get when you combine a snow day, a quaint small town, and young love? Netflix's upcoming holiday flick Let It Snow, the closest we'll probably ever get to Love Actually for teens.
An adaptation of the bestselling Ya book by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle, Let It Snow follows a group of high-school seniors at the mercy of their hormones and the weather when a snowstorm hits their small, Midwestern town on Christmas Eve. Rather than the mundane snow day one might expect, things take a turn for the extraordinary thanks to a stranded pop star and a rousing rager at the local Waffle Town, among other things.
Not only does the trailer promise to hit all the beloved staples of your favorite holiday films, but Let It Snow also boasts a young star-studded cast that includes Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Kiernan Shipka,...

We’ve got a trailer for you to check out for an upcoming Netflix original holiday movie called Let it Snow. The movie is based on the book of the same name by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle. Green is the author of other great Ya novels that made it to film, like The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns.
The typical Christmas-themed movies out there that are made for TV and now streaming services tend to lean toward the cheesy and predictable. I think this movie looks well-written and refreshing.

"Christmas Eve bash - come one, come all! Boom!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a holiday ensemble comedy titled Let It Snow, arriving in just a few weeks to watch streaming this holiday season. When a snowstorm hits a small midwestern town on Christmas Eve, a group of high school seniors find their friendships and their love lives colliding thanks to a stranded pop star, a stolen keg, a squad of competitive dancers, a mysterious woman covered in tin foil, and an epic party at the local Waffle Town. The film stars Isabela Merced, Shameik Moore, Kiernan Shipka, Odeya Rush, Jacob Batalon, Miles Robbins, Mitchell Hope, Liv Hewson, Anna Akana, and Joan Cusack. This looks like one of those charming, goofy, completely obvious, formulaic feel-good holiday flicks. Maybe it's what we all need right now? Enjoy. While other Marvel Cinematic Universe entries may be more significant in the grand scheme of things, Spider-Man: Far From Home is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s most intriguing movies yet. Taking place after Avengers: Endgame, the next McU effort will directly tackle a handful of the series’ most important events. For instance, despite his death, Iron Man’s presence will still be felt in Spidey’s next adventure, which will also touch on how the world’s adjusting to the undoing of Thanos’ devastating snap.
There’s a lot to look forward to in the sequel then, and aside from the appearance of an alternate-universe Mysterio, it seems like Far From Home will be introducing even more new characters in its post-credits scene. To date, there’ve been conflicting reports on what exactly the sequence will show, but it seems that whatever it has in store for us,...
